1 Et il arriva, comme le peuple se pressait autour de lui pour entendre la parole de Dieu, qu'il se tint sur le bord du lac de Génézareth,

 1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

2 Et il vit deux bateaux se trouvant au bord du lac: mais les pêcheurs en étaient descendus et étaient en train de laver leurs filets.

 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

3 Et il monta dans l’un des bateaux, lequel était à Simon, et le pria de s’éloigner un peu du rivage. Et il s’assit, et enseignait le peuple depuis le bateau.

 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

4 Or quand il eut cessé de parler, il dit à Simon: Prends le large dans l’eau profonde, et lâchez vos filets pour une prise.

 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

5 Et Simon répondant, lui dit: Maître, nous avons travaillé toute la nuit, et n’avons rien pris: néanmoins à ta parole, je lâcherai le filet.

 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 Et lorsqu’ils eurent fait cela, ils enfermèrent une grande multitude de poissons: et leur filet se rompait.

 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

7 Et ils firent signe à leurs partenaires, qui étaient dans l’autre bateau, afin qu’ils viennent les aider. Et ils vinrent, et remplirent les deux bateaux, de sorte qu’ils commençaient à couler.

 7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

8 Lorsque Simon Pierre vit cela, il tomba à terre aux genoux de Jésus, disant: Ô Seigneur, retire-toi de moi; car je suis un homme pécheur.

 8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

9 Car il était étonné, et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, à la prise de poissons qu’ils avaient faite:

 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

10 Et Jacques aussi l’était, et Jean, les fils de Zébédée, qui étaient partenaires de Simon. Et Jésus dit à Simon: N’aie pas peur; désormais tu attraperas des hommes.

 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

11 Et quand ils eurent ramené leurs bateaux à terre, ils abandonnèrent tout et le suivirent.

 11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

12 ¶ Et il arriva que, lorsqu'il était dans une certaine ville, voici un homme couvert de lèpre: qui voyant Jésus, tomba sur son visage, et le supplia, disant: Seigneur, si tu le veux, tu peux me rendre net.

 12 ¶ And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

13 Et il étendit sa main et le toucha, disant: Je le veux: sois net. Et immédiatement la lèpre le quitta.

 13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

14 Et il lui recommanda de ne le dire à aucune personne: mais va, montre-toi au prêtre, et offre pour ton épuration, selon ce que Moïse a commandé, pour leur être un témoignage.

 14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

15 Mais sa renommée se répandait de plus en plus de tous côtés: et de grandes multitudes s’assemblaient pour l’entendre, et pour être guéries par lui de leurs infirmités.

 15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

16 ¶ Et il se retira dans le désert, et priait.

 16 ¶ And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

17 Et il arriva un certain jour, pendant qu’il enseignait, que des Pharisiens et des docteurs de la loi étaient assis là, lesquels étaient venus de chaque ville de Galilée, et de Judée et de Jérusalem: et le pouvoir du Seigneur était présent pour les guérir.

 17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judæa, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

18 ¶ Et, voici, des hommes amenèrent sur un lit un homme qui était paralysé: et ils cherchaient le moyen pour le faire entrer et pour le mettre devant lui.

 18 ¶ And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

19 Et lorsqu’ils ne trouvèrent pas par quel côté ils pourraient le faire entrer à cause de la multitude, ils allèrent sur le toit, et le descendirent à travers la couverture du toit avec son lit, au milieu, devant Jésus.

 19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.

20 Et lorsqu’il vit leur foi, il lui dit: Homme, tes péchés te sont pardonnés.

 20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

21 Et les scribes et les Pharisiens commencèrent à raisonner, disant: Qui est celui-ci, qui dit des blasphèmes? Qui peut pardonner les péchés, si ce n'est Dieu seul?

 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

22 Mais lorsque Jésus perçut leurs pensées, répondant, il leur dit: Que raisonnez-vous dans vos cœurs?

 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

23 Lequel est le plus facile, de dire, Tes péchés te sont pardonnés; ou dire. Lève-toi, et marche?

 23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

24 Mais afin que vous sachiez que le Fils de l’homme a le pouvoir sur la terre de pardonner les péchés (il dit à l’homme atteint de paralysie): Je te dis, Lève-toi, et emporte ton lit, et va dans ta maison.

 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.

25 Et immédiatement il se leva devant eux, et prit ce sur quoi il était allongé, et partit à sa maison, glorifiant Dieu.

 25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

26 Et ils furent tous stupéfaits, et ils glorifiaient Dieu, et furent remplis de crainte, disant: Nous avons vu aujourd’hui des choses étranges.

 26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

27 ¶ Et après ces choses il sortit, et vit un publicain nommé Lévi, assis au poste de douane: et il lui dit: Suis-moi.

 27 ¶ And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

28 Et il laissa tout, se leva et le suivit.

 28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

29 Et Lévi lui fit un grand festin dans sa maison: et il y avait un grand nombre de publicains et d’autres personnes qui s'assirent avec eux.

 29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

30 Mais leurs scribes et Pharisiens murmuraient contre ses disciples, disant: Pourquoi mangez-vous et buvez-vous avec des publicains et des pécheurs?

 30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

31 Et Jésus répondant, leur dit: Ceux qui sont bien portants n’ont pas besoin de médecin; mais ceux qui sont malades.

 31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

32 Je ne suis pas venu appeler les hommes droits, mais les pécheurs à la repentance.

 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

33 ¶ Et ils lui dirent: Pourquoi les disciples de Jean jeûnent-ils souvent, et font-ils des prières, de même que les disciples des Pharisiens; alors que les tiens mangent et boivent?

 33 ¶ And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

34 Et il leur dit: Pouvez-vous faire jeûner les enfants de la chambre nuptiale, pendant que l’époux est avec eux?

 34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?

35 Mais les jours viendront, où l’époux leur sera retiré, et ils jeûneront en ces jours-là.

 35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

36 ¶ Et il leur dit aussi une parabole: Personne ne met une pièce d’un vêtement neuf à un vieux vêtement; autrement, le neuf déchire le vieux, et la pièce prise du neuf ne s’accorde pas avec le vieux.

 36 ¶ And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

37 Et aucun homme ne met le vin nouveau dans de vieilles bouteilles; autrement le vin nouveau ferait éclater les bouteilles, et se répandrait, et les bouteilles seraient perdues.

 37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

38 Mais le vin nouveau doit être mis dans des bouteilles neuves; et les deux sont conservés.

 38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

39 Aussi aucun homme qui, ayant bu du vin vieux, veuille aussitôt du nouveau: car il dit: Le vieux est meilleur.

 39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.
