1 Or lorsqu’il eut achevé tous ses propos devant le peuple, il entra dans Capernaüm.

 1 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

2 Et le serviteur d’un certain centurion, qui lui était cher, était malade, et près de mourir.

 2 And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.

3 Et lorsqu’il entendit parler de Jésus, il envoya vers lui des anciens des Juifs, l’implorant de venir guérir son serviteur.

 3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.

4 Et quand ils vinrent à Jésus, ils le supplièrent instamment, disant: Que celui pour lequel il ferait cela était digne:

 4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:

5 Car il aime notre nation, et il nous a bâti une synagogue.

 5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.

6 Alors Jésus alla avec eux. Et comme déjà il n’était pas loin de la maison, le centurion envoya vers lui des amis, lui disant: Seigneur, ne te dérange pas: car je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit:

 6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:

7 C’est pourquoi je ne me suis pas jugé digne d’aller moi-même vers toi: mais dis une parole, et mon serviteur sera guéri.

 7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

8 Car je suis aussi un homme placé sous autorité, ayant sous moi des soldats, et je dis à l’un: Va, et il va; et à un autre: Viens, et il vient; et à mon serviteur: Fais ceci, et il le fait.

 8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

9 Lorsque Jésus entendit ces choses, il s’émerveilla de lui, et se retourna et dit au peuple qui le suivait: Je vous le dis, je n’ai pas trouvé de si grande foi, non, pas même en Israël.

 9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

10 Et ceux qui avaient été envoyés, de retour à la maison, trouvèrent le serviteur qui avait été malade, se portant bien.

 10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

11 ¶ Et il arriva le jour suivant, qu’il alla dans une ville appelée Naïn; et beaucoup de ses disciples allèrent avec lui, et un grand nombre de personnes.

 11 ¶ And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.

12 Or lorsqu’il s’approcha de la porte de la ville, voici, on portait dehors un homme mort, le seul fils de sa mère, et elle était veuve: et un grand nombre de personnes de la ville était avec elle.

 12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.

13 Et quand le Seigneur la vit, il eut compassion d’elle, et lui dit: Ne pleure pas.

 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

14 Et il s’approcha, et toucha la bière: et ceux qui le portaient s’arrêtèrent. Et il dit: Jeune homme, je te dis, Lève-toi.

 14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

15 Et celui qui était mort s’assit, et commença à parler. Et il le rendit à sa mère.

 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

16 Et ils furent tous saisis de crainte: et ils glorifièrent Dieu, disant: Qu’un grand prophète s’est levé parmi nous; et, Que Dieu a visité son peuple.

 16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

17 Et cette rumeur à son sujet se répandit dans toute la Judée, et dans toute la région d’alentour.

 17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judæa, and throughout all the region round about.

18 Et les disciples de Jean lui déclarèrent toutes ces choses.

 18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

19 ¶ Et Jean ayant appelé à lui deux de ses disciples, les envoya à Jésus, disant: Es-tu celui qui devait venir? ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?

 19 ¶ And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

20 Quand les hommes furent arrivés à lui, ils dirent: Jean Baptiste nous a envoyés vers toi, disant: Es-tu celui qui devait venir? ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?

 20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

21 Et à cette même heure, il en rétablit beaucoup de leurs infirmités, et de leurs maux et d’esprits mauvais; et il donna la vue à beaucoup qui étaient aveugles.

 21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

22 Alors Jésus répondant, leur dit: Allez, et dites à Jean les choses que vous avez vues et entendues; comment les aveugles voient, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont rendus nets, les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, l’évangile est prêché aux pauvres.

 22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

23 Et béni est quiconque, qui ne sera pas offensé à cause de moi.

 23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

24 ¶ Et quand les messagers de Jean furent partis, il commença à parler au peuple concernant Jean: Qu’êtes-vous allés voir au désert? Un roseau secoué par le vent?

 24 ¶ And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

25 Mais qu’êtes-vous allés voir? Un homme vêtu d’habillement délicat? Voici, ceux qui sont magnifiquement revêtus, et qui vivent dans l’opulence, sont dans les cours des rois.

 25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.

26 Mais qu’êtes-vous allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, vous dis-je, et bien plus qu’un prophète.

 26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

27 C’est celui dont il est écrit, Voici, j’envoie mon messager devant ta face, lequel préparera ton chemin devant toi.

 27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

28 Car je vous dis: Parmi ceux qui sont nés des femmes, il n’y a pas un plus grand prophète que Jean le Baptiste: mais celui qui est le moindre dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui.

 28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

29 Et tout le peuple qui l’entendait, et les publicains, justifiaient Dieu, ayant été baptisés du baptême de Jean.

 29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

30 Mais les Pharisiens et les hommes de loi rejetaient le conseil de Dieu contre eux-mêmes, n’ayant pas été baptisés par lui.

 30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

31 ¶ Et le Seigneur dit: À qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération? et à qui sont-ils semblables?

 31 ¶ And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

32 Ils sont semblables à des enfants assis sur la place du marché, et appelant les uns aux autres, et disant: Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n’avez pas dansé; nous avons mené deuil pour vous, et vous n’avez pas pleuré.

 32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

33 Car Jean le Baptiste est venu ne mangeant pas de pain, ni ne buvant de vin; et vous dites: Il a un diable.

 33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

34 Le Fils de l’homme est venu mangeant et buvant; et vous dites: Voici un homme glouton, et un ivrogne, un ami des publicains et des pécheurs!

 34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

35 Mais la sagesse est justifiée par tous ses enfants.

 35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.

36 ¶ Et un des Pharisiens désira qu’il vienne manger chez lui. Et il alla dans la maison du pharisien, et s’assit à table.

 36 ¶ And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.

37 Et, voici, une femme dans la ville, qui était une pécheresse, quand elle sut que Jésus était assis à table dans la maison du pharisien, apporta une boîte d’albâtre pleine de baume,

 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

38 Et se tint à ses pieds derrière lui, pleurant, et commença à laver ses pieds de ses larmes, et les essuyait avec les cheveux de sa tête, et embrassait ses pieds, et les oignait avec le baume.

 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

39 Or lorsque le pharisien qui l’avait convié le vit, il parla en lui-même, disant, Cet homme, s’il était un prophète, aurait su qui et quelle sorte de femme est celle qui le touche: car elle est une pécheresse.

 39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

40 Et Jésus répondant, lui dit: Simon, j’ai quelque chose à te dire. Et il dit: Maître, dis-le.

 40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

41 Il y avait un certain créancier qui avait deux débiteurs: l’un devait cinq cents deniers, et l’autre cinquante.

 41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

42 Et lorsqu’ils n’avaient pas de quoi payer, il leur pardonna sincèrement à tous deux. Dis-moi donc, lequel des deux l’aimera le plus?

 42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

43 Simon répondit et dit: Je suppose que c’est celui à qui il a le plus pardonné. Et il lui dit: Tu as jugé droitement.

 43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

44 Et il se tourna vers la femme, et dit à Simon: Vois-tu cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison, tu ne m’as pas donné d’eau pour mes pieds: mais elle a lavé mes pieds de ses larmes, et les a essuyés avec les cheveux de sa tête.

 44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

45 Tu ne m’as pas donné de baiser: mais cette femme depuis le moment où je suis entré, n’a cessé d’embrasser mes pieds.

 45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

46 Tu n’as pas oint ma tête d’huile: mais cette femme a oint mes pieds avec un baume.

 46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

47 C’est pourquoi je te dis: Ses péchés, qui sont nombreux, sont pardonnés; car elle a beaucoup aimé: mais celui à qui peu est pardonné, celui-là aime peu.

 47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

48 Et il lui dit: Tes péchés sont pardonnés.

 48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

49 Et ceux qui étaient assis à table avec lui commencèrent à dire en eux-mêmes, Qui est celui-ci qui pardonne aussi les péchés?

 49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

50 Et il dit à la femme: Ta foi t’a sauvée; va en paix.

 50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
