1 Alors il appela ensemble ses douze disciples, et leur donna pouvoir et autorité sur tous les diables, et de traiter les maladies.

 1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

2 Et il les envoya prêcher le royaume de Dieu et guérir les malades.

 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

3 Et il leur dit: Ne prenez rien pour votre voyage, ni bâtons, ni sac, ni pain, ni argent; n’ayez pas non plus chacun deux manteaux.

 3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.

4 Et dans quelque maison que vous entriez, demeurez-y et de là partez.

 4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.

5 Et quiconque ne vous recevra pas, quand vous partirez de cette ville-là, secouez la poussière même de vos pieds, en témoignage contre eux.

 5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

6 Et ils partirent et traversèrent les villes, prêchant l’évangile et guérissant partout.

 6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.

7 ¶ Or Hérode le tétrarque entendit parler de tout ce qui était fait par lui: et il était perplexe, parce que quelques-uns disaient, que Jean était ressuscité d’entre les morts;

 7 ¶ Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;

8 Et quelques-uns, qu’Élie était apparu; et d’autres, que l’un des anciens prophètes était ressuscité.

 8 And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.

9 Et Hérode disait: J’ai décapité Jean: mais qui est celui-ci, dont j’entends de telles choses? Et il désirait le voir.

 9 And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.

10 ¶ Et les apôtres, lorsqu’ils furent de retour, lui racontèrent tout ce qu’ils avaient fait. Et il les prit, et se retira en particulier, dans un lieu désert, appartenant à la ville appelée Bethsaïda.

 10 ¶ And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

11 Et le peuple, quand il le sut, le suivit: et il les reçut, et leur parlait du royaume de Dieu, et guérissait ceux qui avaient besoin d’être guéris.

 11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.

12 Et quand le jour commença à diminuer, les douze alors vinrent et lui dirent: Renvoie la multitude, afin qu’ils puissent aller dans les villes et dans les campagnes alentour, et se loger et trouver des victuailles: car nous sommes ici dans un lieu désert.

 12 And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place.

13 Mais il leur dit: Donnez-leur à manger. Et ils dirent: Nous n’avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons; à moins que nous n’allions acheter de la nourriture pour tout ce peuple.

 13 But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.

14 Car ils étaient environ cinq mille hommes. Et il dit à ses disciples: Faites-les asseoir par groupes de cinquante.

 14 For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.

15 Et ils firent ainsi, et les firent tous asseoir.

 15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.

16 Alors il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, et regardant vers le ciel, il les bénit, et les rompit, et les donna aux disciples pour les mettre devant la multitude.

 16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.

17 Et ils mangèrent et furent tous rassasiés: et il fut recueilli des morceaux qui leur restaient douze paniers.

 17 And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.

18 ¶ Et il arriva, comme il était seul priant, ses disciples étaient avec lui: et il leur demanda, disant: Qui le peuple dit-il que je suis?

 18 ¶ And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?

19 Eux, répondant, dirent: Jean le Baptiste; mais quelques-uns disent: Élie: et d’autres disent: qu’un des anciens prophètes est ressuscité.

 19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.

20 Il leur dit: Mais qui dites-vous que je suis? Pierre répondant, dit: Le Christ de Dieu.

 20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.

21 Et il leur chargea strictement, et leur commanda de ne raconter à personne cette chose;

 21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;

22 Disant: Le Fils de l’homme doit souffrir beaucoup de choses, et doit être rejeté des anciens et des principaux prêtres et des scribes, et être tué, et être ressuscité le troisième jour.

 22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

23 ¶ Et il dit à eux tous: Si quelqu’un veut venir après moi, qu’il renonce à lui-même, et prenne sa croix chaque jour, et me suive.

 23 ¶ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

24 Car quiconque voudra sauver sa vie la perdra: mais quiconque perdra sa vie à cause de moi, celui-là la sauvera.

 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

25 Car quel est l’avantage pour un homme s’il gagne le monde entier, et qu’il se perd lui-même ou soit rejeté?

 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

26 Car quiconque aura honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l’homme aura honte de lui quand il viendra dans sa propre gloire, et dans celle de son Père et des saints anges.

 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.

27 Mais je vous dis une vérité, il y en a quelques-uns se tenant ici, qui ne goûteront pas la mort, jusqu’à ce qu’ils aient vu le royaume de Dieu.

 27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

28 ¶ Et il arriva, environ huit jours après ces dires, qu’il prit Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et monta sur une montagne pour prier.

 28 ¶ And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray.

29 Et comme il priait, la forme de sa figure changea et son habillement était blanc et resplendissant.

 29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.

30 Et, voici, deux hommes parlaient avec lui, lesquels étaient Moïse et Élie:

 30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:

31 Qui apparurent en gloire, et parlaient de sa mort laquelle il devait accomplir à Jérusalem.

 31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

32 Mais Pierre et ceux qui étaient avec lui étaient accablés de sommeil: et quand ils furent réveillés, ils virent sa gloire, et les deux hommes qui se tenaient avec lui.

 32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

33 Et il arriva, comme ils le quittaient, que Pierre dit à Jésus: Maître, il est bon pour nous d’être ici: et laisse-nous faire trois tabernacles; un pour toi, un pour Moïse et un pour Élie: ne sachant ce qu’il disait.

 33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

34 Tandis qu’il parlait ainsi, un nuage vint et les couvrit de son ombre: et ils eurent peur comme ils entraient dans le nuage.

 34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.

35 Et une voix vint du nuage, disant: Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé: écoutez-le.

 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

36 Et lorsque la voix fut partie, Jésus se trouva seul. Et ils le gardèrent caché, et ne racontèrent rien à personne en ces jours-là des choses qu’ils avaient vues.

 36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

37 ¶ Et il arriva, le lendemain, quand ils furent descendus de la colline, qu’un grand nombre de personnes vinrent à sa rencontre.

 37 ¶ And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.

38 Et, voici, un homme de la foule s’écria, disant: Maître, je t’implore, regarde mon fils: car il est mon seul enfant.

 38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.

39 Et, voici, un esprit le saisit, et soudainement il pousse des cris; et il le déchire si bien qu’il en écume de nouveau, et en le meurtrissant le quitte à grand peine.

 39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.

40 Et j’ai supplié tes disciples de le chasser; et ils n’ont pas pu.

 40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.

41 Et Jésus répondant, dit: Ô génération sans foi et perverse, jusqu’à quand serai-je avec vous, et vous supporterai-je? Amène ici ton fils.

 41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.

42 Et comme il n’était pas encore arrivé, le diable le jeta à terre, et le déchira. Et Jésus reprit l’esprit impur et guérit l’enfant, et le rendit à son père.

 42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

43 ¶ Et ils étaient tous stupéfaits du puissant pouvoir de Dieu. Mais tandis que chacun se demandait à propos de toutes les choses que Jésus faisait, il dit à ses disciples:

 43 ¶ And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

44 Que ces dires pénètrent bien dans vos oreilles: car le Fils de l’homme sera livré entre les mains des hommes.

 44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.

45 Mais ils ne comprirent pas ce propos, et il leur était caché, afin qu’ils ne le perçoivent pas: et ils craignaient de lui demander sur ce propos.

 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.

46 ¶ Alors s’éleva une discussion parmi eux, lequel d’entre eux serait le plus grand.

 46 ¶ Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.

47 Et Jésus, percevant la pensée de leur cœur, prit un enfant et le plaça auprès de lui,

 47 And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,

48 Et leur dit: Quiconque recevra cet enfant en mon nom me reçoit: et quiconque me recevra, reçoit celui qui m’a envoyé: car celui qui est le plus petit parmi vous tous, celui-là sera grand.

 48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

49 ¶ Et Jean répondit et dit: Maître, nous avons vu quelqu’un qui chassait les diables en ton nom; et nous le lui avons défendu, parce qu’il ne suit pas avec nous.

 49 ¶ And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

50 Et Jésus lui dit: Ne lui défendez pas: car celui qui n’est pas contre nous est pour nous.

 50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

51 ¶ Et il arriva, lorsque l’heure fut venue où il devait être enlevé, qu’il dressa fermement son visage pour aller à Jérusalem,

 51 ¶ And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

52 Et envoya des messagers devant lui: et ils allèrent, et entrèrent dans un village des Samaritains, afin de faire les préparatifs pour lui.

 52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.

53 Et ils ne le reçurent pas, parce que son visage était comme s’il allait à Jérusalem.

 53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.

54 Et lorsque ses disciples, Jacques et Jean, virent cela, ils dirent: Seigneur, veux-tu que nous commandions au feu de descendre du ciel, et de les consumer, comme aussi fit Élie?

 54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?

55 Mais il se tourna et les reprit, et dit: Vous ne savez pas de quelle sorte d’esprit vous êtes.

 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

56 Car le Fils de l’homme n’est pas venu pour détruire les vies des hommes, mais pour les sauver. Et ils allèrent dans un autre village.

 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

57 ¶ Et il arriva, comme ils allaient par le chemin, qu’un certain homme lui dit: Seigneur, je te suivrai où que tu ailles.

 57 ¶ And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

58 Et Jésus lui dit: Les renards ont des tanières, et les oiseaux de l’air ont des nids; mais le Fils de l’homme n’a pas où poser sa tête.

 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

59 Et il dit à un autre: Suis-moi. Mais il dit: Seigneur, permets que j’aille d’abord enterrer mon père.

 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

60 Jésus lui dit: Laisse les morts enterrer leurs morts: mais va, toi et prêche le royaume de Dieu.

 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

61 Et un autre dit aussi: Je te suivrai, Seigneur; mais laisse-moi d’abord dire adieu à ceux qui sont dans ma maison.

 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.

62 Et Jésus lui dit: Aucun homme ayant mis sa main à la charrue et regardant derrière lui, n’est apte pour le royaume de Dieu.

 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
