1 Et il arriva que comme il était en train de prier en un certain lieu, lorsqu’il eut cessé, un de ses disciples lui dit: Seigneur, enseigne-nous à prier, comme Jean a aussi enseigné ses disciples.

 1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2 Et il leur dit: Lorsque vous priez, dites: Notre Père qui es au ciel, ton nom soit sanctifié. Ton royaume vienne. Ta volonté soit faite, comme au ciel, de même sur la terre.

 2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3 Donne-nous de jour en jour notre pain quotidien.

 3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 Et pardonne-nous nos péchés; car nous aussi pardonnons à quiconque nous est redevable. Et ne nous conduis pas à la tentation; mais délivre-nous du mal.

 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

5 Et il leur dit: Lequel de vous aura un ami, et ira vers lui à minuit, et lui dira: Ami, prête-moi trois pains;

 5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

6 Car un de mes amis au cours de son voyage est venu chez moi, et je n’ai rien à lui présenter?

 6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

7 Et celui qui est dedans répondra et dira: Ne me dérange pas: la porte est maintenant fermée, et mes enfants sont avec moi au lit; je ne peux pas me lever et t’en donner.

 7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

8 Je vous dis: Même s’il ne se lève pas pour lui en donner, parce qu’il est son ami, cependant à cause de son importunité il se lèvera et lui en donnera autant qu’il en a besoin.

 8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

9 Et je vous dis: Demandez, et il vous sera donné; cherchez, et vous trouverez: frappez, et il vous sera ouvert.

 9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

10 Car quiconque demande reçoit; et celui qui cherche trouve; et à celui qui frappe il sera ouvert.

 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

11 Si un fils de l’un d’entre vous qui êtes père lui demande du pain, lui donnera-t-il une pierre? Ou s’il lui demande un poisson, lui donnera-t-il à la place un serpent?

 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12 Ou s’il lui demande un œuf, lui offrira-t-il un scorpion?

 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13 Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, savez donner de bons présents à vos enfants: combien plus votre Père céleste donnera-t-il le Saint-Esprit à ceux qui le lui demandent?

 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

14 ¶ Et il était en train de chasser un diable, et celui-ci était muet. Et il arriva, lorsque le diable fut sorti, le muet parla; et le peuple était surpris.

 14 ¶ And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.

15 Mais quelques-uns d’entre eux disaient: Il chasse les diables par Beelzebub le chef des diables.

 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

16 Et d’autres, le tentant, recherchaient de lui un signe du ciel.

 16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

17 Mais lui, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est amené à la désolation; et une maison divisée contre une maison tombe.

 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.

18 Si Satan aussi est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il? parce que vous dites que je chasse les diables par Beelzebub.

 18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

19 Et si moi, par Beelzebub je chasse les diables, par qui vos fils les chassent-ils? par conséquent ils seront vos juges.

 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

20 Mais si, par le doigt de Dieu je chasse les diables, sans aucun doute le royaume de Dieu est venu sur vous.

 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

21 Quand un homme fort armé, garde son palais, ses biens sont en paix:

 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

22 Mais lorsqu’un plus fort que lui survient, et l’emporte, sur lui, il lui ôte toute son armure dans laquelle il se confiait, et partage ses dépouilles.

 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

23 Celui qui n’est pas avec moi est contre moi: et celui qui n’assemble pas avec moi disperse.

 23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

24 Lorsque l’esprit impur est sorti d’un homme, il traverse des lieux arides, cherchant du repos; et n’en trouvant pas, il dit: Je retournerai dans ma maison d’où je suis sorti.

 24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

25 Et quand il y vient, il la trouve balayée, et garnie.

 25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.

26 Alors il s’en va, et prend avec lui sept autres esprits plus immoraux que lui-même; et ils entrent et y demeurent: et la dernière condition de cet homme est pire que la première.

 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

27 ¶ Et il arriva, comme il disait ces choses, qu’une certaine femme de la foule éleva sa voix et lui dit: Béni soit l’utérus qui t’a porté, et les mamelles que tu as tétées.

 27 ¶ And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28 Mais il dit: Oui, plutôt, bénis sont ceux qui entendent la parole de Dieu, et qui la gardent.

 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

29 ¶ Et quand le peuple se fut rassemblé, il commença à dire: C’est une génération mauvaise: ils recherchent un signe, et il ne leur sera donné aucun signe; sinon le signe de Jonas le prophète.

 29 ¶ And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

30 Car comme Jonas fut un signe aux Ninivites, ainsi sera aussi le Fils de l’homme pour cette génération.

 30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

31 La reine du Sud se lèvera au jugement avec les hommes de cette génération, et les condamnera: car elle vint des parties les plus éloignées de la terre pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon; Et, voici, un plus grand que Salomon est ici.

 31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

32 Les hommes de Ninive se lèveront au jugement avec cette génération, et la condamneront: car ils se repentirent à la prédication de Jonas; et, voici, un plus grand que Jonas est ici.

 32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

33 Aucun homme lorsqu’il a allumé une bougie, ne la met dans un lieu secret, ni sous un boisseau, mais sur un chandelier, afin que ceux qui entrent, puissent voir la lumière.

 33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

34 La lumière du corps est l’œil: par conséquent lorsque ton œil est net, ton corps entier aussi est plein de lumière; mais lorsque ton œil est mauvais, ton corps aussi est plein d’obscurité.

 34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

35 Prends donc garde que la lumière qui est en toi ne soit pas obscurité.

 35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

36 Si donc ton corps entier est plein de lumière, n’ayant aucune partie obscure, le tout sera plein de lumière, comme lorsque l’éclat brillant d’une bougie te donne sa lumière.

 36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

37 ¶ Et comme il parlait, un certain pharisien le supplia de dîner chez lui: et il entra et s’assit à table.

 37 ¶ And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

38 Et lorsque le pharisien le vit, il fut surpris de ce qu’il ne s’était pas d’abord lavé avant le dîner.

 38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

39 Et le Seigneur lui dit: Maintenant, vous Pharisiens, vous nettoyez l’extérieur de la coupe et du plat; mais votre intérieur est plein de voracité et d’immoralité.

 39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

40 Vous insensés, celui qui a fait l’extérieur, n’a-t-il pas aussi fait l’intérieur?

 40 Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

41 Mais donnez plutôt des aumônes des choses que vous avez; et, voici, toutes choses sont nettes pour vous.

 41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

42 Mais malheur à vous, Pharisiens! car vous qui payez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue et de toute sorte de plantes, et laissez le jugement et l’amour de Dieu: vous auriez dû faire cela, et ne pas délaisser les autres.

 42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

43 Malheur à vous, Pharisiens! car vous aimez les sièges les plus élevés dans les synagogues, et les salutations dans les marchés.

 43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

44 Malheur à vous, scribes et Pharisiens, hypocrites! car vous êtes comme les tombeaux qui ne paraissent pas, et les hommes qui marchent sur elles n’en sont pas conscients.

 44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

45 ¶ Alors un des hommes de loi répondit, et lui dit: Maître, en parlant ainsi tu nous outrages aussi.

 45 ¶ Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.

46 Et il dit: Malheur à vous aussi, vous hommes de lo ! car vous chargez les hommes de pénibles charges à porter, et vous-mêmes ne touchez pas les charges d’un seul de vos doigts.

 46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

47 Malheur à vous! car vous bâtissez les sépulcres des prophètes, et vos pères les ont tués.

 47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.

48 En vérité vous rendez témoignage que vous approuvez les actions de vos pères: car ils les ont en effet tués, et vous bâtissez leurs sépulcres.

 48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.

49 Par conséquent la sagesse de Dieu a aussi dit, Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, et ils en tueront et persécuteront quelques-uns d’entre eux:

 49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:

50 Afin que le sang de tous les prophètes, qui a été versé depuis la fondation du monde, puisse être requis de cette génération;

 50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

51 Depuis le sang d’Abel jusqu’au sang de Zacharie, qui périt entre l’autel et le temple: en vérité, je vous dis, il sera requis de cette génération.

 51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

52 Malheur à vous, hommes de loi! car vous avez retiré la clef de la connaissance: vous n’y êtes pas entrés vous-mêmes, et ceux qui étaient en train d’y entrer vous les en avez empêché.

 52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

53 Et comme il leur disait ces choses, les scribes et les Pharisiens commencèrent à le presser avec véhémence, et à le provoquer à parler sur beaucoup de choses:

 53 And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:

54 Lui tendant des pièges, et cherchant à surprendre quelque chose qui sortirait de sa bouche, afin qu’ils puissent l’accuser.

 54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
