1 Pendant ce temps, lorsqu’une multitude innombrable de personnes se fut assemblée, à tel point qu’ils se marchaient les uns sur les autres, il commença à dire à ses disciples tout d’abord: Méfiez-vous du levain des Pharisiens, qui est l’hypocrisie.

 1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

2 Car il n’y a rien de couvert qui ne sera révélé; ni rien de caché, qui ne sera connu.

 2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

3 Par conséquent tout ce que vous avez dit dans l’obscurité sera entendu dans la lumière; et ce que vous avez dit à l’oreille dans les cabinets sera proclamé sur les toits des maisons.

 3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

4 Et je vous dis, à vous mes amis: N’ayez pas peur de ceux qui tuent le corps, et après cela, ils ne peuvent rien faire de plus.

 4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

5 Mais je vous avertirai d’avance qui vous devez craindre: Craignez celui, qui après qu’il a tué, a le pouvoir de jeter en enfer; oui, je vous dis, Craignez-le.

 5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

6 Ne vend-on pas cinq moineaux pour deux sous, et pas un seul d'entre eux n’est oublié devant Dieu?

 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

7 Mais même tous les cheveux de votre tête sont comptés. N’ayez donc pas peur: vous avez plus de valeur que beaucoup de moineaux.

 7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

8 Aussi je vous dis: Quiconque me confessera devant les hommes, le Fils de l’homme le confessera aussi devant les anges de Dieu:

 8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

9 Mais celui qui me renie devant les hommes sera renié devant les anges de Dieu.

 9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

10 Et quiconque dira une parole contre le Fils de l’homme, il lui sera pardonné: mais à celui qui blasphème contre l’Esprit Saint, il ne lui sera pas pardonné.

 10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

11 Et lorsqu’ils vous mèneront dans les synagogues et aux magistrats et autorités, ne pensez pas comment ou quelle chose vous répondrez, ou de ce que vous direz:

 11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

12 Car l’Esprit Saint vous enseignera à l’heure même ce que vous devrez dire.

 12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

13 ¶ Et quelqu’un de la foule lui dit: Maître, parle à mon frère, afin qu’il partage le patrimoine avec moi.

 13 ¶ And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

14 Et il lui dit: Homme, qui m’a fait un juge ou un partageur sur vous?

 14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?

15 Et il leur dit: Prenez garde, et méfiez-vous de la convoitise: car la vie d’un homme ne consiste pas dans l’abondance des choses qu’il possède.

 15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

16 Et il leur dit une parabole, disant: La terre d’un certain homme riche avait rapporté profusément:

 16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 Et il pensait en lui-même, disant: Que ferai-je, parce que je n’ai pas de place où garder mes fruits?

 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18 Et il dit: Je ferai ceci: j’abattrai mes granges, et en bâtirai de plus grandes; et j’y garderai tous mes fruits et mes biens.

 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 Et je dirai à mon âme: Âme, tu as beaucoup de biens amassés pour beaucoup d’années; prends tes aises, mange, bois, et sois joyeux.

 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 Mais Dieu lui dit: Toi insensé, cette nuit, ton âme te sera requise: alors à qui seront ces choses, que tu as préparées?

 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

21 Ainsi en est-il de celui qui amasse un trésor pour lui-même, et n’est pas riche envers Dieu.

 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

22 ¶ Et il dit à ses disciples: Par conséquent je vous dis, Ne vous inquiétez pas pour votre vie, de ce que vous mangerez; ni pour le corps, de quoi vous serez vêtus.

 22 ¶ And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

23 La vie est plus que la nourriture, et le corps est plus que l’habillement.

 23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

24 Considérez les corbeaux: car ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent; lesquels n’ont ni cellier ni grange; et Dieu les nourrit: combien ne valez-vous plus que les oiseaux?

 24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

25 Et lequel de vous peut en s’inquiétant ajouter une coudée à sa stature?

 25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

26 Si donc vous n’êtes pas capables de faire cette chose qui est moindre, pourquoi vous inquiétez-vous pour le reste?

 26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

27 Considérez les lis, comment ils grandissent: ils ne travaillent pas, ils ne filent pas; et cependant je vous dis, que Salomon, dans toute sa gloire, n’a pas été paré comme l’un d’eux.

 27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

28 Si alors Dieu revêt ainsi l’herbage, lequel est aujourd’hui dans le champ, et qui demain est jeté dans le four; combien plus vous revêtira-t-il, Ô vous de petite foi?

 28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

29 Et ne cherchez pas ce que vous mangerez, ou ce que vous boirez, et ne soyez pas non plus dans le doute.

 29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

30 Car les nations du monde recherchent toutes ces choses: et votre Père sait que vous avez besoin de ces choses.

 30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

31 ¶ Mais cherchez plutôt le royaume de Dieu; et toutes ces choses vous seront ajoutées.

 31 ¶ But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

32 N’aie pas peur, petit troupeau; car c’est le bon plaisir de votre Père de vous donner le royaume.

 32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

33 Vendez ce que vous avez, et donnez l’aumône; procurez-vous des bourses qui ne vieillissent pas, un trésor dans les cieux qui ne fait jamais défaut, où aucun voleur n’approche, et où la mite ne détériore rien non plus.

 33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

34 Car là où est votre trésor, là sera aussi votre cœur.

 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

35 Que vos flancs; soient ceints, et vos lampes allumées;

 35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

36 Et vous-mêmes soyez semblables à des hommes qui attendent leur seigneur, quand il reviendra du mariage; afin que lorsqu’il viendra et qu’il frappera, ils puissent lui ouvrir immédiatement.

 36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

37 Bénis sont ces serviteurs que le seigneur quand il viendra, trouvera veillant: en vérité, je vous dis qu’il se ceindra lui-même, et les fera s’asseoir à table, et s’avancera et les servira.

 37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

38 Et s’il vient à la seconde veille ou s’il vient à la troisième veille, et qu’il les trouve ainsi, bénis sont ces serviteurs-là.

 38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

39 Et sachez ceci, que si le maître de la maison avait su à quelle heure le voleur allait venir, il aurait veillé, et n’aurait pas laissé sa maison être cambriolée.

 39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

40 Soyez donc prêts vous aussi: car le Fils de l’homme vient à l’heure à laquelle vous n’y pensez pas.

 40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

41 ¶ Alors Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, dis-tu cette parabole à nous, ou aussi à tous?

 41 ¶ Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?

42 Et le Seigneur dit: Quel est donc ce fidèle et sage intendant, que son seigneur établira sur sa maisonnée, pour leur donner au temps déterminé leur portion de nourriture?

 42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

43 Béni est ce serviteur que son seigneur quand il viendra, trouvera faisant ainsi.

 43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

44 En vérité je vous dis qu’il le fera dirigeant sur tout ce qu’il a.

 44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

45 Mais et si ce serviteur dit en son cœur: Mon seigneur retarde sa venue, et qu'il se mette à battre les serviteurs et les servantes, et à manger, et à boire, et à s’enivrer;

 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

46 Le seigneur de ce serviteur viendra au jour où il ne l’attend pas, et à l’heure qu’il ignore, et il le coupera en deux, et lui assignera sa part avec les incroyants.

 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

47 Et ce serviteur qui connaissait la volonté de son seigneur, et ne s’est pas préparé, ni n’a fait selon sa volonté, sera battu de beaucoup de coups.

 47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

48 Mais celui qui ne l’a pas connue, et qui a fait des choses dignes de coups, sera battu de peu de coups. Car à quiconque il aura été beaucoup donné il sera beaucoup requis: et à qui les hommes auront beaucoup confié, ils lui demanderont plus encore.

 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

49 ¶ Je suis venu pour envoyer le feu sur la terre; et que veux-je, s’il est déjà allumé?

 49 ¶ I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

50 Mais j’ai un baptême dont je dois être baptisé; et combien suis-je confiné jusqu’à ce qu’il soit accompli!

 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

51 Supposez-vous que je sois venu apporter la paix sur la terre? Je vous dis: Non; mais plutôt la division:

 51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

52 Car désormais, il y en aura cinq dans une maison, divisés, trois contre deux, et deux contre trois.

 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

53 Le père sera divisé contre le fils, et le fils contre le père; la mère contre la fille, et la fille contre la mère; la belle-mère contre sa belle-fille, et la belle-fille contre sa belle-mère.

 53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

54 ¶ Et il disait aussi au peuple: Quand vous voyez un nuage se lever à l’ouest, aussitôt vous dites: L’averse arrive; et c’est ainsi.

 54 ¶ And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.

55 Et quand vous voyez le vent du sud souffler, vous dites: Il fera chaud; et cela arrive.

 55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.

56 Vous hypocrites, vous pouvez discerner l’aspect du ciel et de la terre; mais comment se fait-il que vous ne discerniez pas ce temps-ci?

 56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

57 Oui, et pourquoi aussi de vous-mêmes ne jugez-vous pas ce qui est droit?

 57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

58 ¶ Lorsque tu vas avec ton adversaire devant le magistrat, comme tu es en chemin, fais diligence afin que tu puisses être délivré de lui; de peur qu’il ne te traîne devant le juge, et le juge ne te livre à l’officier, et l’officier ne te jette en prison.

 58 ¶ When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.

59 Je te dis que tu ne sortiras pas de là, jusqu’à ce que tu aies payé la dernière pite.

 59 I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
