1 Et ils arrivèrent jusqu’à l’autre côté de la mer, dans la province des Gadaréniens.

 1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2 Et lorsqu’il fut sorti du bateau, immédiatement un homme ayant un esprit impur, vint des tombes à sa rencontre,

 2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

3 Qui avait sa demeure parmi les tombes; et aucun homme ne pouvait le lier, non, pas même avec des chaînes:

 3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

4 Parce qu’il avait été souvent lié de fers et de chaînes, et il avait arraché les chaînes, et brisé les fers en morceaux: aucun homme ne pouvait le dompter.

 4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

5 Et il était tout le temps, nuit et jour, dans les montagnes, et dans les tombes, criant et se coupant avec des pierres.

 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

6 Mais quand il vit Jésus de loin, il accourut et l’adora,

 6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

7 Et cria d’une voix retentissante, et dit: Qu’ai-je à faire avec toi, Jésus, toi Fils du Dieu le plus haut? Je t’adjure par Dieu, que tu ne me tourmentes pas.

 7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8 Car il lui disait: Sors de cet homme, toi esprit impur.

 8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9 Et il lui demanda: Quel est ton nom? Et il répondit, disant: Mon nom est Légion: car nous sommes nombreux.

 9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

10 Et il le suppliait beaucoup qu’il ne les envoie pas hors de la province.

 10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11 Or il y avait là près des montagnes un grand troupeau de pourceaux qui se nourrissaient.

 11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

12 Et tous les diables le suppliaient, disant: Envoie-nous dans les pourceaux, afin que nous puissions entrer en eux.

 12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13 Et tout de suite Jésus le leur permit. Et les esprits impurs sortirent, et entrèrent dans les pourceaux: et le troupeau descendit avec violence par un endroit escarpé dans la mer (ils étaient environ deux mille), et ils s’étouffèrent dans la mer.

 13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

14 Et ceux qui nourrissaient les pourceaux s’enfuirent, et le racontèrent dans la ville, et dans la campagne. Et ils sortirent voir ce qui s’était fait.

 14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

15 Et ils vinrent à Jésus, et virent celui qui avait été possédé du diable, et avait eu la légion, assis, et vêtu et sensé: et ils eurent peur.

 15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

16 Et ceux qui avaient vu cela leur racontèrent comment cela était arrivé à celui qui avait été possédé du diable, et aussi concernant les pourceaux.

 16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

17 Et ils se mirent à le prier de partir de leurs côtes.

 17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

18 Et quand il monta dans le bateau, celui qui avait été possédé du diable le pria afin qu’il puisse être avec lui.

 18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

19 Quoi qu’il en soit Jésus ne le lui permit pas, mais lui dit: Va chez toi, vers tes amis, et raconte-leur quelles grandes choses le Seigneur t'a faites, et comment il a eu compassion de toi.

 19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

20 Et il partit et commença à publier dans la Décapole quelles grandes choses Jésus avait faites pour lui: et tous les hommes s’émerveillèrent.

 20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

21 Et lorsque Jésus fut repassé en bateau jusqu’à l’autre côté, un grand nombre de personnes s’assemblèrent auprès de lui: et il était près de la mer.

 21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

22 Et, voici, un des dirigeants de la synagogue, nommé Jaïrus, vient; et quand il le vit, il tomba à ses pieds,

 22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23 Et le supplia grandement, disant: Ma petite fille est sur le point de mourir: je te prie, viens poser tes mains sur elle, afin qu’elle puisse être guérie, et elle vivra.

 23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

24 Et Jésus alla avec lui; et un grand nombre de personnes le suivaient, et le bousculaient.

 24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

25 Et une certaine femme, qui avait une perte de sang depuis douze ans,

 25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26 Et avait souffert beaucoup de choses par de nombreux médecins, et avait dépensé tout ce qu’elle avait, et n’était pas mieux, mais cela empirait plutôt,

 26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27 Lorsqu’elle entendit parler de Jésus, vint dans la foule par derrière, et toucha son vêtement.

 27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28 Car elle disait, Si je peux seulement toucher ses effets, je serai bien portante.

 28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29 Et aussitôt le flux de son sang tarit; et elle sentit dans son corps qu’elle était guérie de ce fléau.

 29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 Et Jésus, immédiatement reconnaissant en lui-même qu’une vertu était sortie de lui, se tourna dans la foule, et dit: Qui a touché mes effets?

 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 Et ses disciples lui dirent: Tu vois que la multitude te presse et tu dis, Qui m’a touché?

 31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 Et il regarda tout autour, pour voir celle qui avait fait cette chose.

 32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 Mais la femme, craintive et tremblante, sachant ce qui s’était fait en elle, vint et tomba à terre devant lui, et lui dit toute la vérité.

 33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 Et il lui dit: Fille, ta foi t’a rendue bien portante; va en paix, et sois soulagée de ton fléau.

 34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

35 Comme il parlait encore, certains de la maison du dirigeant de la synagogue vinrent, lesquels dire: Ta fille est morte: pourquoi déranges-tu davantage le Maître?

 35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36 Dès que Jésus entendit la parole qui avait été dite, il dit au dirigeant de la synagogue: N’aie pas peur, crois seulement.

 36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 Et il ne permit à personne de le suivre, sauf à Pierre, et à Jacques, et à Jean, le frère de Jacques.

 37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 Et il vient à la maison du dirigeant de la synagogue, et voit le tumulte, et ceux qui pleuraient et se lamentaient grandement.

 38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

39 Et lorsqu’il fut entré, il leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous ce bruit, et pourquoi pleurez-vous? La fillette n’est pas morte, mais elle dort.

 39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

40 Et ils le tournèrent en ridicule. Mais les ayant tous fait sortir, il prit le père et la mère de la fillette, et ceux qui étaient avec lui, et entre là où la fillette était couchée.

 40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

41 Et il prit la fillette par la main, et lui dit: Talitha coumi; ce qui s'interprète: Fillette, je te dis, lève-toi.

 41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42 Et aussitôt la fillette se leva, et marcha; car elle était âgée de douze ans. Et ils furent étonnés d’un grand étonnement.

 42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 Et il leur recommanda strictement que personne ne le sache; et commanda que quelque chose lui soit donné à manger.

 43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
