1 Et aussitôt, au matin, les principaux prêtres tinrent une consultation avec les anciens et les scribes, et tout le conseil, et ils lièrent Jésus, et l’emmenèrent, et le livrèrent à Pilate.

 1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

2 Et Pilate lui demanda: Es-tu le Roi des Juifs? Et répondant, il lui dit: Tu le dis.

 2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.

3 Et les principaux prêtres l’accusaient de beaucoup de choses: mais il ne répondit rien.

 3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.

4 Et Pilate lui demanda encore, disant: Ne réponds-tu rien? vois combien de choses ils témoignent contre toi.

 4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.

5 Mais Jésus ne répondit encore rien; de sorte que Pilate s’en étonnait.

 5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.

6 Or à cette fête il leur relâchait un prisonnier, quiconque ils désiraient.

 6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.

7 Et il y avait un nommé Barabbas, lequel gisait lié avec ceux qui s’étaient insurgés avec lui, qui avaient commis un meurtre dans l’insurrection.

 7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

8 Et la multitude criant très fort, commença à vouloir lui demander de faire comme il leur avait toujours fait.

 8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.

9 Mais Pilate leur répondit, disant: Voulez-vous que je vous relâche le Roi des Juifs?

 9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

10 Car il savait que les principaux prêtres l’avaient livré par envie.

 10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.

11 Mais les principaux prêtres poussèrent le peuple, afin qu’il leur relâche plutôt Barabbas.

 11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

12 Et Pilate répondit et leur dit de nouveau: Que voulez-vous donc que je fasse à celui que vous appelez le Roi des Juifs?

 12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

13 Et ils crièrent de nouveau: Crucifie-le.

 13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.

14 Alors Pilate leur dit: Pourquoi, quel mal a-t-il fait? Et ils crièrent encore plus fort: Crucifie-le.

 14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

15 ¶ Et ainsi Pilate, voulant satisfaire le peuple, leur relâcha Barabbas, et livra Jésus, après qu’il l’ait fait fouetter, pour être crucifié.

 15 ¶ And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

16 Et les soldats l’emmenèrent dans la salle, appelée Prétoire; et ils y assemblèrent toute la bande.

 16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Prætorium; and they call together the whole band.

17 Et ils le revêtirent de pourpre, et tressèrent une couronne d’épines, et la lui mirent autour de sa tête,

 17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,

18 Et commencèrent à le saluer: Salut, Roi des Juifs!

 18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

19 Et ils lui frappaient la tête avec un roseau, et crachaient sur lui, et pliant leurs genoux, l’adoraient.

 19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

20 Et lorsqu’ils se furent moqués de lui, ils le dévêtir de la pourpre, et lui mirent ses propres effets, et l’emmenèrent dehors pour le crucifier.

 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

21 Et ils obligèrent un Simon, un Cyrénéen, le père d’Alexandre et de Rufus, qui passait par là en revenant de la campagne, de porter sa croix.

 21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

22 Et ils le menèrent jusqu’au lieu Golgotha, lequel est, étant interprété est, Le lieu d’un crâne.

 22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

23 Et ils lui donnèrent à boire du vin mélangé de myrrhe: mais il ne le prit pas.

 23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.

24 Et quand ils l’eurent crucifié, ils partagèrent ses habits, les tirant au sort pour savoir ce que chaque homme en prendrait.

 24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

25 Et c’était la troisième heure, et ils le crucifièrent.

 25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

26 Et l’inscription de son accusation était ainsi écrite au-dessus, LE ROI DES JUIFS.

 26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

27 Et avec lui ils crucifièrent deux voleurs; l’un à sa main droite, et l’autre à sa gauche.

 27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

28 Et l’écriture fut accomplie, laquelle dit, Et il a été mis au nombre des transgresseurs.

 28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

29 Et ceux qui passaient par là le raillaient, secouant leurs têtes, et disant: Hé, toi, qui détruis le temple, et qui le bâtis en trois jours,

 29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

30 Sauve-toi toi-même, et descends de la croix.

 30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.

31 De même aussi, les principaux prêtres se moquant disaient entre eux avec les scribes: Il a sauvé les autres, il ne peut se sauver lui-même.

 31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

32 Que Christ, le Roi d’Israël descende maintenant de la croix, afin que nous puissions voir et croire. Et ceux qui étaient crucifiés avec lui l’injuriaient.

 32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

33 Et quand vint la sixième heure, il y eut de l’obscurité sur tout le pays, jusqu’à la neuvième heure.

 33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

34 Et à la neuvième heure Jésus s’écria d’une voix retentissante, disant: Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabachthani? ce qui est interprété: Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m’as-tu abandonné?

 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

35 Et quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient présents, lorsqu’ils l’entendirent, disaient: Voici, il appelle Élie.

 35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

36 Et quelqu’un courut, et remplit une éponge pleine de vinaigre, et la mit au bout d’un roseau, et la lui donna à boire, disant: Voyons si Élie viendra le descendre.

 36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.

37 Et Jésus cria d’une voix retentissante, et rendit l’esprit.

 37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

38 Et le voile du temple se déchira en deux depuis le haut jusqu’en bas.

 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

39 ¶ Et quand le centurion qui se tenait en face de lui vit qu’il avait crié ainsi et rendu l’esprit, il dit: Véritablement cet homme était le Fils de Dieu.

 39 ¶ And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 Il y avait aussi des femmes regardant de loin: parmi lesquelles étaient Marie Magdeleine, et Marie, la mère de Jacques le mineur et de Joses, et Salomé;

 40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

41 (Qui aussi lorsqu’il était en Galilée, l’avaient suivi, et le servi): et beaucoup d’autres femmes qui étaient montées avec lui à Jérusalem.

 41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

42 ¶ Et donc quand le soir fut venu, parce que c’était la préparation, c’est-à-dire, la veille du sabbat,

 42 ¶ And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

43 Joseph d’Arimathée, un conseiller honorable, qui aussi attendait le royaume de Dieu, vint, et se présenta avec hardiesse auprès de Pilate, et sollicita le corps de Jésus.

 43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

44 Et Pilate s’émerveilla qu’il soit déjà mort: et fit appeler à lui le centurion, il lui demanda s’il y avait longtemps qu’il était mort.

 44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.

45 Et lorsqu’il l’apprit du centurion, il donna le corps à Joseph.

 45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

46 Et il acheta du lin fin, et le descendit, et l’enveloppa dans le lin, et le plaça dans un sépulcre qui était taillé dans le roc, et roula une pierre contre la porte du sépulcre.

 46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

47 Et Marie Magdeleine et Marie, la mère de Joses, regardaient où il était mis.

 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
