1 Deux jours après était la fête de la pâque, et du pain sans levain: et les principaux prêtres et les scribes cherchaient comment ils pourraient se saisir de Jésus par ruse, et le mettre à mort.

 1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

2 Mais ils disaient: Non pas le jour de la fête, de peur qu’il n’y ait une émeute parmi le peuple.

 2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

3 ¶ Et étant à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, tandis qu’il était assis à table, une femme vint ayant une boîte d’albâtre pleine d’un baume de spicanard très précieux; et elle brisa la boite, et elle le répandit sur sa tête.

 3 ¶ And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

4 Et quelques-uns en furent indignés en eux-mêmes, et disaient: À quoi sert ce gaspillage du baume?

 4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

5 Car il aurait pu être vendu plus de trois cents deniers, et être donné aux pauvres. Et ils murmuraient contre elle.

 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

6 Et Jésus dit: Laissez-la tranquille, pourquoi l’importunez-vous? Elle a effectué une bonne œuvre envers moi.

 6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

7 Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous, et toutes les fois que vous voudrez, vous pouvez leur faire du bien: mais moi, vous ne m’avez pas toujours.

 7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

8 Elle a fait ce qu’elle pouvait: elle est venue à l’avance oindre mon corps pour l’ensevelissement.

 8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

9 En vérité, je vous dis qu’en quelque lieu où cet évangile sera prêché à travers le monde entier, on parlera aussi de ce qu’elle a fait, en mémoire d’elle.

 9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

10 ¶ Et Judas Iscariot, l’un des douze, alla vers les principaux prêtres afin de le trahir.

 10 ¶ And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.

11 Et lorsqu’ils l’entendirent, ils furent contents et promirent de lui donner de l’argent. Et il chercha comment il pourrait opportunément le trahir.

 11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

12 ¶ Et le premier jour du pain sans levain, lorsqu’ils tuaient la pâque, ses disciples lui dirent: Où veux-tu que nous allions préparer afin que tu puisses manger la pâque?

 12 ¶ And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

13 Et il envoya deux de ses disciples et leur dit: Allez à la ville, et là, un homme viendra à votre rencontre, portant une cruche d’eau; suivez-le.

 13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

14 Et en quelque lieu qu’il entre, dites au maître de la maison: Le Maître dit, Où est la salle d’invités, où je mangerai la pâque avec mes disciples?

 14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

15 Et il vous montrera une grande pièce en haut, meublée et préparée: là, faites-nous les préparatifs.

 15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

16 Et ses disciples partirent, et vinrent à la ville, et trouvèrent tout comme il leur avait dit: et ils préparèrent la pâque.

 16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

17 Et le soir il vint avec les douze.

 17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

18 Et comme ils étaient assis et qu’ils mangeaient, Jésus dit: En vérité, je vous dis, l’un de vous qui mange avec moi, me trahira.

 18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

19 Et ils commencèrent à être attristés; et lui dirent l’un après l’autre: Est-ce moi? Et un autre dit: Est-ce moi?

 19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

20 Et il répondit et leur dit: C’est l’un des douze qui trempe avec moi dans le plat.

 20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.

21 Le Fils de l’homme en effet s’en va, selon ce qui est écrit de lui: mais malheur à l’homme par qui le Fils de l’homme est trahi! il eût été bon pour cet homme qu’il ne fût jamais né.

 21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

22 ¶ Et comme ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain, et bénit, et le rompit, et le leur donna, et dit: Prenez, mangez: ceci est mon corps.

 22 ¶ And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

23 Et il prit la coupe et lorsqu’il eut remercié, il la leur donna: et ils en burent tous.

 23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.

24 Et il leur dit: Ceci est mon sang du nouveau testament, lequel est versé pour beaucoup.

 24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

25 En vérité, je vous dis, que je ne boirai plus du fruit de la vigne, jusqu’au jour où je le boirai nouveau dans le royaume de Dieu.

 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

26 ¶ Et lorsqu’ils eurent chanté un hymne, ils allèrent au mont des Oliviers.

 26 ¶ And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

27 Et Jésus leur dit: Vous serez tous offensés cette nuit à cause de moi; car il est écrit, Je frapperai le berger, et les moutons seront dispersés.

 27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

28 Mais après que je serai ressuscité, j’irai au-devant de vous en Galilée.

 28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

29 Mais Pierre lui dit: Quand même tous seraient offensés, cependant je ne le serai pas.

 29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

30 Et Jésus lui dit: En vérité, je te dis, Qu’aujourd’hui c’est-à-dire cette nuit, avant que le coq ait chanté deux fois, tu m’auras renié trois fois.

 30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

31 Mais il parlait avec encore plus de véhémence: Si je devais mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai en aucun cas. Tous disaient de même.

 31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

32 Et ils arrivèrent dans un lieu appelé Gethsémané: et il dit à ses disciples: Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que je vais prier.

 32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

33 Et il prit avec lui Pierre, et Jacques et Jean, et il commença à être fort stupéfait et à être très accablé,

 33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

34 Et leur dit: Mon âme est extrêmement attristée jusqu’à la mort: demeurez ici et veillez.

 34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

35 Et il alla un peu plus loin, et tomba au sol, et priait que, s’il était possible, l’heure puisse passer loin de lui.

 35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

36 Et il disait: Abba, Père, toutes choses te sont possibles; retire cette coupe de moi: néanmoins non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.

 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 Et il vient, et les trouve endormis, et dit à Pierre: Simon dors-tu? ne pouvais-tu pas veiller une heure?

 37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

38 Veillez et priez, de peur que vous n’entriez en tentation. L’esprit en vérité est prêt, mais la chair est faible.

 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

39 Et il s’éloigna de nouveau, et pria, et prononça les mêmes paroles.

 39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

40 Et lorsqu’il revint, il les trouva de nouveau endormis (car leurs yeux étaient alourdis), ni ne savaient que lui répondre.

 40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.

41 Et il vient pour la troisième fois, et leur dit: Dormez maintenant, et reposez-vous: c’est assez, l’heure est venue; voici, le Fils de l’homme est trahi entre les mains des pécheurs.

 41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

42 Levez-vous, allons; voici, celui qui me trahit est à portée de la main.

 42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

43 ¶ Et immédiatement, comme il parlait encore, Judas, l’un des douze, arrive, et avec lui une grande multitude avec des épées et des bâtons, envoyés par les principaux prêtres, les scribes et les anciens.

 43 ¶ And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

44 Et celui qui le trahissait leur avait donné un indice, disant, Quiconque j’embrasserai, c’est celui-là; prenez-le, et emmenez-le en lieu sûr.

 44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

45 Et dès qu’il fut arrivé, il va aussitôt à lui et dit: Maître, maître; et l’embrassa.

 45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.

46 ¶ Et ils mirent les mains sur lui, et le prirent.

 46 ¶ And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

47 Et un de ceux qui se tenaient là tira une épée, et frappa un serviteur du grand prêtre, et coupa son oreille.

 47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

48 Et Jésus répondit et leur dit: Êtes-vous sortis, comme après un voleur, avec des épées et avec des bâtons pour me prendre?

 48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

49 J’étais tous les jours avec vous dans le temple enseignant, et vous ne me prirent pas: mais les écritures doivent être accomplies.

 49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

50 Et ils l’abandonnèrent tous et s’enfuirent.

 50 And they all forsook him, and fled.

51 Et un certain jeune homme le suivait, ayant enveloppé d’une étoffe de lin son corps nu, et les jeunes gens le saisirent:

 51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

52 Et il laissa l’étoffe de lin, et s’enfuit d’eux nu.

 52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

53 ¶ Et ils menèrent Jésus au grand prêtre: et tous les principaux prêtres, et les anciens et les scribes étaient assemblés avec lui.

 53 ¶ And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

54 Et Pierre le suivit de loin, même jusque dans le palais même du grand prêtre: et il s’assit avec les serviteurs, et se chauffait près du feu.

 54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

55 Et les principaux prêtres et tout le conseil cherchaient quelque témoignage contre Jésus pour le mettre à mort; et n’en trouvaient aucun.

 55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

56 Car beaucoup portaient de faux témoignages contre lui, mais leurs témoignages ne s’accordaient pas.

 56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

57 Et certains se levèrent, et portèrent de faux témoignages contre lui, disant:

 57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

58 Nous l’avons entendu dire, Je détruirai ce temple qui est fait avec des mains, et en trois jours j’en bâtirai un autre fait sans mains.

 58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

59 Mais aucun de leur témoignage ne s’accordait.

 59 But neither so did their witness agree together.

60 Et le grand prêtre se leva au milieu et demanda à Jésus, disant: Ne réponds-tu rien? Qu’est-ce que ceux-ci témoignent contre toi?

 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

61 Mais il garda le silence et ne répondit rien. Le grand prêtre lui demanda encore, et lui dit: Es-tu le Christ, le Fils du Béni?

 61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62 Et Jésus dit: Je suis: et vous verrez le Fils de l’homme assis à la main droite du pouvoir, et venant dans les nuages du ciel.

 62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

63 Alors le grand prêtre déchira ses effets et dit: de plus ?

 63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

64 Vous avez entendu le blasphème: que pensez-vous? Et ils le condamnèrent tous comme étant coupable de mort.

 64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

65 Et quelques-uns se mirent à cracher sur lui, et à couvrir son visage, et à le frapper à coups de poing et à lui dire: Prophétise: et les serviteurs le frappaient avec les paumes de leurs mains.

 65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

66 ¶ Et comme Pierre était en dessous dans le palais, arrive là une des domestiques du grand prêtre vient:

 66 ¶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

67 Et lorsqu’elle vit Pierre se chauffant, elle le regarda et dit: Et toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus de Nazareth.

 67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

68 Mais il le nia, disant: Je ne sais pas, ni ne comprends pas ce que tu dis. Et il alla dehors par le porche, et le coq chanta.

 68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

69 Et une servante le vit de nouveau, et commença à dire à ceux qui se tenaient là: C’est un des leurs.

 69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

70 Et il le nia de nouveau. Et un peu après, ceux qui se tenaient là dirent de nouveau à Pierre: Assurément tu es un des leurs: car tu es Galiléen, et ton accent le prouve.

 70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

71 Mais il commença à maudire et à jurer, disant: Je ne connais pas cet homme dont vous parlez.

 71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

72 Et le coq chanta pour la seconde fois. Et Pierre se rappela la parole que Jésus lui dit: Avant que le coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois. Et lorsqu’il pensa à cela, il pleura.

 72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
