1 Puis des scribes et des Pharisiens qui étaient de Jérusalem vinrent à Jésus, disant:

 1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

2 Pourquoi tes disciples transgressent-ils la tradition des anciens? Car ils ne lavent pas leurs mains lorsqu’ils mangent du pain.

 2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

3 Mais il répondit et leur dit: Pourquoi vous aussi transgressez-vous le commandement de Dieu par votre tradition?

 3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

4 Car Dieu a commandé, disant: Honore ton père et ta mère: et, Celui qui maudit père ou mère, meure de mort.

 4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

5 Mais vous, vous dites: Quiconque dira à son père ou à sa mère, C’est un don, dont tu aurais pu profiter de ma part;

 5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

6 Et qu’il n’honore pas son père ou sa mère, il sera libre. Ainsi vous avez rendu inefficace le commandement de Dieu par votre tradition.

 6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

7 Vous hypocrites, Ésaïe a bien prophétisé à votre sujet disant:

 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

8 Ce peuple s’approche de moi avec sa bouche, et m’honore avec ses lèvres; mais son cœur est loin de moi.

 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

9 Mais ils m’adorent en vain, en enseignant comme doctrines des commandements d’hommes.

 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

10 ¶ Et il appela la multitude, et leur dit: Écoutez, et comprenez:

 10 ¶ And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

11 Ce n’est pas ce qui entre dans la bouche qui souille l’homme; mais ce qui sort de la bouche, cela souille l’homme.

 11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

12 Alors vinrent ses disciples, et lui dirent: Sais-tu que les Pharisiens ont été offensés, quand ils ont entendu ces propos?

 12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

13 Mais il répondit et dit: Toute plante, que mon Père céleste n’a pas plantée, sera déracinée.

 13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

14 Laissez-les: ce sont des aveugles qui conduisent des aveugles. Et si un aveugle conduit un aveugle, tous deux tomberont dans le fossé.

 14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

15 Alors Pierre répondit et lui dit: Explique-nous cette parabole.

 15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

16 Et Jésus dit: Êtes-vous, vous aussi, encore sans compréhension?

 16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

17 Ne comprenez-vous pas encore que quoi que ce soit qui entre dans la bouche s’en va dans le ventre, et est jeté dans les égouts?

 17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

18 Mais ces choses qui proviennent de la bouche sortent du cœur; et elles souillent l’homme.

 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

19 Car du cœur proviennent mauvaises pensées, meurtres, adultères, fornications, vols, faux témoignages, blasphèmes:

 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

20 Ce sont ces choses-là qui souillent l’homme: mais manger sans s’être lavé les mains ne souille pas l’homme.

 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

21 ¶ Puis Jésus s’en alla de là, et partit vers les côtes de Tyr et de Sidon.

 21 ¶ Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

22 Et, voici, une femme de Canaan venue de ces côtes-là, et s’écria, lui disant: Aie miséricorde envers moi, Ô Seigneur, toi fils de David; ma fille est douloureusement agitée par un diable.

 22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

23 Mais il ne lui répondit pas un mot. Et ses disciples vinrent et le prièrent, disant: Renvoie-la, car elle crie contre nous.

 23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

24 Mais il répondit et dit: Je ne suis envoyé qu’aux moutons perdus de la maison d’Israël.

 24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

25 Alors elle vint et l’adora disant: Seigneur, aide-moi.

 25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

26 Mais il lui répondit et dit: Il n’est pas convenable de prendre le pain des enfants, et de le jeter aux chiens.

 26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.

27 Et elle dit: Cela est vrai, Seigneur, toutefois les chiens mangent les miettes qui tombent de la table de leurs maîtres.

 27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

28 Alors Jésus répondit et lui dit: Ô femme, grande est ta foi: qu’il te soit fait comme tu le veux. Et sa fille fut rendue bien portante à cette heure même.

 28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

29 Et Jésus partit de là et arriva près de la mer de Galilée; et monta sur une montagne et s’y assit.

 29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.

30 Et de grandes multitudes vinrent vers lui, ayant avec eux ceux qui étaient boiteux, aveugles, muets, estropiés, et beaucoup d’autres, et elles les mirent aux pieds de Jésus; et il les guérit:

 30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them:

31 À tel point que la multitude s’interrogea lorsqu’ils virent que les muets parlaient, les estropiés étaient en bonne santé, les boiteux marchaient, et les aveugles voyaient: et ils glorifiaient le Dieu d’Israël.

 31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

32 ¶ Alors Jésus appela ses disciples à lui et dit: J’ai compassion envers la multitude, parce qu’ils sont avec moi depuis déjà trois jours, et ils n’ont rien à manger: et je ne veux pas les renvoyer à jeun, de peur qu’ils ne s’évanouissent en chemin.

 32 ¶ Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

33 Et ses disciples lui dirent: D’où pourrions-nous avoir, dans ce lieu désert, assez de pain pour rassasier une si grande multitude?

 33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?

34 Et Jésus leur dit: Combien avez-vous de pains? Ils dirent: Sept, et quelques petits poissons.

 34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.

35 Et il commanda à la multitude de s’asseoir sur le sol.

 35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

36 Et il prit les sept pains et les poissons et remercia, et les rompit et les donna à ses disciples, et les disciples les donnèrent à la multitude.

 36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

37 Et ils mangèrent tous et furent rassasiés: et ils emportèrent sept paniers pleins des morceaux de nourriture qui restèrent.

 37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

38 Et ceux qui avaient mangé étaient quatre mille hommes, sans compter les femmes et les enfants.

 38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

39 Et il renvoya la multitude et monta dans un bateau, et alla vers les côtes de Magdala.

 39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.
