1 Et Balaam dit à Balak : Construis-moi ici sept autels, et prépare-moi ici sept bœufs et sept béliers.

 1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

2 Et Balak fit comme Balaam avait dit ; et Balak et Balaam offrirent un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel.

 2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

3 Et Balaam dit à Balak : Tiens-toi près de ton offrande consumée, et je m’en irai ; peut-être que le SEIGNEUR viendra à ma rencontre, et ce qu’il m’aura fait voir je te rapporterai. Et il alla sur un haut lieu.

 3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

4 Et Dieu rencontra Balaam, et il Balaam lui dit : J’ai préparé sept autels, et j’ai offert un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel.

 4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.

5 Et le SEIGNEUR mit un mot dans la bouche de Balaam et dit : Retourne vers Balak, et tu parleras ainsi.

 5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.

6 Et il retourna vers lui ; et voici, il se tenait près de son offrande consumée, lui et tous les princes de Moab.

 6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.

7 Et il Balaam commença sa parabole, et dit : Balak, le roi de Moab, m’a amené d’Aram, des montagnes de l’Est disant: Viens, maudis-moi Jacob ; viens, mets Israël au défi.

 7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

8 Comment maudirais-je celui que Dieu n’a pas maudit. ? Et comment mettrais-je au défi celui que le SEIGNEUR n’a pas mis au défi ?

 8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?

9 Car du sommet des rocs, je le vois et des coteaux, je le contemple. Voici le peuple demeurera seul, et ne sera pas compté parmi les nations.

 9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

10 Qui peut compter la poussière de Jacob, et le nombre de la quatrième partie d’Israël ? Laisse moi mourir la mort des hommes droits, et que ma fin soit semblable à la sienne !

 10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

11 Et Balak dit à Balaam : Que m’as-tu fait ? Je t’ai pris pour maudire mes ennemis ; et voici, tu les as bénis expressément.

 11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.

12 Et il répondit, et dit : Ne dois-je pas faire attention pour dire ce que le SEIGNEUR a mis dans ma bouche ?

 12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?

13 ¶ Et Balak lui dit : Viens, je te prie, avec moi en un autre lieu d’où tu puisses les peuple voir, tu n’en verras que la partie extrême, et tu ne les verras pas tous ; et de là maudis-les-moi.

 13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.

14 ¶ Et il le mena au champ de Zophim, au sommet du Pisgah, et construisit sept autels, et offrit un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel.

 14 ¶ And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

15 Et il Balaam dit à Balak : Tiens-toi ici près de ton offrande consumée, pendant que j’irai là à la rencontre du SEIGNEUR.

 15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.

16 Et le SEIGNEUR rencontra Balaam, et mit une parole dans sa bouche, et dit : Retourne vers Balak, et parle ainsi.

 16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.

17 Et quand il vint à lui, voici, il se tenait près de son offrande consumée, et les princes de Moab avec lui. Et Balak lui dit : Qu’a dit le SEIGNEUR ?

 17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?

18 Et il commença sa parabole, et dit : Lève-toi, Balak, et entends ; écoute-moi, toi, le fils de Zippor (Tsipor).

 18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:

19 Dieu n’est pas un homme, qui devrait mentir, ni le fils d’homme qui devrait se repentir ; a-t-iI dit et ne le fera-t-il pas ? Ou a-t-il parlé, et ne le ratifiera-t-il pas ?

 19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

20 Voici, j’ai reçu commandement de bénir ; et il a béni, je ne peux le révoquer.

 20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

21 Il n’a pas aperçu d’iniquité en Jacob, il n’a pas vu non plus de perversité en Israël ; le SEIGNEUR son Dieu est avec lui, et l’éclat d’un roi est parmi eux.

 21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.

22 Dieu les a fait sortir d’Égypte ; il a comme par la vigueur d’une licorne.

 22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

23 Certainement iI n’y a pas d’enchantement contre Jacob, il n’y a pas non plus de divination contre Israël selon son temps il sera dit de Jacob et d’Israël : Qu’est-ce que Dieu a fait !

 23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!

24 Voici, le peuple se lèvera comme un grand lion, et se dressera comme un jeune lion ; il ne se couchera pas jusqu’à ce qu’il n’ait dévoré la proie et bu le sang des tués.

 24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.

25 ¶ Et Balak dit à Balaam : Ne les maudis pas du tout, et ne les bénis pas non plus.

 25 ¶ And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.

26 Mais Balaam répondit et dit à Balak : Ne t’ai-je pas dit disant: Tout ce que le SEIGNEUR dit, cela je dois faire ?

 26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?

27 ¶ Et Balak dit à Balaam : Viens, je te prie, je t’amènerai à un autre lieu ; peut-être plairait-il à Dieu, que tu me les maudisses de là.

 27 ¶ And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.

28 Et Balak amena Balaam au sommet du Peor, qui regarde vers Jeshimon.

 28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.

29 Et Balaam dit à Balak : Construis-moi ici sept autels, et prépare-moi ici sept taureaux et sept béliers.

 29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.

30 Et Balak fit comme Balaam avait dit ; et il offrit un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel.

 30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
