1 Les proverbes de Salomon, le fils de David, roi d'Israël;

 1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

2 Pour connaître sagesse et instruction; pour percevoir les paroles de compréhension;

 2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

3 Pour recevoir l’instruction de la sagesse, de la justice, et du jugement, et de l’équité;

 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

4 Pour donner subtilité au simplet, au jeune homme connaissance et discrétion.

 4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

5 Un homme sage entendra, et augmentera son savoir; et un homme de compréhension acquerra de sages conseils:

 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6 Afin de comprendre un proverbe, et l’interprétation; les paroles du sage, et leurs dires obscurs.

 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 ¶ La crainte du SEIGNEUR est le commencement de la connaissance: mais les insensés méprisent sagesse et instruction.

 7 ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

8 Mon fils, écoute l'instruction de ton père, et n'abandonne pas la loi de ta mère:

 8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

9 Car elles seront une parure de grâce à ta tête, et des chaînes autour de ton cou.

 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

10 ¶ Mon fils, si des pécheurs t'attirent, ne consens pas.

 10 ¶ My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

11 S'ils disent, Viens avec nous, dressons des embûches pour verser du sang, tendons secrètement des pièges à l’innocent, sans cause:

 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

12 Avalons-les vivants, comme la tombe; et tout entiers comme ceux qui descendent dans la fosse:

 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

13 Nous trouverons toutes sortes de biens précieux, nous remplirons nos maisons du butin:

 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

14 Jette ton sort parmi nous; n’ayons tous qu’une bourse:

 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15 Mon fils, ne marche pas en chemin avec eux; retiens ton pied de leur sentier:

 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16 Car leurs pieds courent au mal, et se hâtent pour verser le sang.

 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

17 Sûrement en vain le filet est tendu à la vue de tout oiseau.

 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18 Et ils dressent des embûches contre leur propre sang; ils tendent secrètement des pièges à leurs propres vies.

 18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

19 Ainsi sont les comportements de toute personne qui est avide de gain; lequel emporte la vie de son propriétaire.

 19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

20 ¶ La sagesse crie au dehors; elle profère sa voix dans les rues:

 20 ¶ Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

21 Elle crie dans le lieu animé des carrefours, aux entrées des portails: dans la ville elle profère ses paroles, disant:

 21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

22 Jusqu’à quand, vous simplets, aimerez-vous la simplicité? Et les dédaigneux se délecteront-ils dans leur dédain, et les insensés haïront-ils la connaissance?

 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

23 Tournez-vous à ma réprimande: voici, je répandrai mon esprit sur vous, je vous ferai connaître mes paroles.

 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24 ¶ Parce que j'ai appelé, et vous avez refusé; j'ai étendu ma main et aucun homme n'y a pris garde;

 24 ¶ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 Mais vous n’avez eu aucun égard à mon conseil, et vous ne vouliez nullement de ma réprobation:

 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26 Aussi je rirai de votre calamité; je me moquerai lorsque votre peur viendra;

 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 Lorsque votre peur arrivera comme une désolation, et que votre destruction arrivera comme un tourbillon; lorsque détresse et angoisse arriveront sur vous.

 27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Alors ils m’appelleront, mais je ne répondrai pas; ils me chercheront de bonne heure, mais ils ne me trouveront pas:

 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 Parce qu'ils haïrent la connaissance et ne choisirent pas la crainte du SEIGNEUR:

 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

30 Ils voulurent nullement de mon conseil: ils méprisèrent toute ma réprobation.

 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 Par conséquent mangeront-ils du fruit de leur propre comportement, et seront remplis de leurs propres desseins.

 31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

32 Car le détournement des simplets les tuera, et la prospérité des insensés les détruira.

 32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33 Mais quiconque m'écoute demeurera en sécurité, et sera tranquille, sans crainte du mal.

 33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
