1 Alors, les hommes de Kirjathjearim (Kiriath-Jéarim) vinrent, et firent monter l’arche du SEIGNEUR, et la mirent dans la maison d’Abinadab, sur la colline, et ils sanctifièrent Eleazar, son fils, pour garder l’arche du SEIGNEUR.

1 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.
|
2 Et il arriva que, pendant que l’arche demeura à Kirjathjearim (Kiriath-Jéarim), bien du temps passa ; cela a été vingt ans, et toute la maison d’Israël se lamenta après le SEIGNEUR.
|
2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.
|
3 ¶ Et Samuel parla à toute la maison d’Israël, disant : Si vous retournez de tout votre cœur au SEIGNEUR, ôtez alors du milieu de vous les dieux étrangers et les Ashtaroth, et dirigez votre cœur vers le SEIGNEUR, et servez-le lui seul, et il vous délivrera de la main des Philistins.

3 ¶ And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
|
4 Alors les enfants d’Israël ôtèrent les Baalim et les Ashtaroth, et servirent le SEIGNEUR seul.
|
4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.
|
5 Et Samuel dit : Assemblez tout Israël à Mizpeh (Mitspa), et je prierai le SEIGNEUR pour vous.
|
5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.
|
6 Et ils s’assemblèrent à Mizpeh (Mitspa) et y puisèrent de l’eau, et la répandirent devant le SEIGNEUR ; et ils jeûnèrent ce jour-là, et dirent là : Nous avons péché contre le SEIGNEUR. Et Samuel jugea les enfants d’Israël à Mizpeh (Mitspa).

6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
|
7 Et quand les Philistins apprirent que les enfants d’Israël s’étaient assemblés à Mizpeh (Mitspa), les seigneurs des Philistins montèrent contre Israël. Et quand les enfants d’Israël l’apprirent, ils eurent peur des Philistins ;
|
7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.
|
8 Et les enfants d’Israël dirent à Samuel : Ne cesse pas de crier pour nous au SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, afin qu’il nous sauve de la main des Philistins.
|
8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
|
9 ¶ Et Samuel prit un agneau de lait, et l’offrit tout entier au SEIGNEUR en offrande consumée ; et Samuel cria au SEIGNEUR pour Israël, et le SEIGNEUR l’entendit.
|
9 ¶ And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.
|
10 Et comme Samuel était en train d’offrir l’offrande consumée, les Philistins s’approchèrent pour combattre contre Israël ; mais le SEIGNEUR fit tonner ce jour-là un grand tonnerre sur les Philistins, et les mit en déroute, et ils furent frappés devant Israël.
|
10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.
|
11 Et les hommes d’Israël sortirent de Mizpeh (Mitspa), et poursuivirent les Philistins, et les frappèrent jusqu’à ce qu’ils arrivent au-dessous de Bethcar.
|
11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.
|
12 Alors Samuel prit une pierre, et la mit entre Mizpeh (Mitspa) et Shen, et la nomma Ebenezer, disant : Le SEIGNEUR nous a secourus jusqu’ici.
|
12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
|
13 ¶ Et les Philistins furent abaissés, et ils ne vinrent plus sur le territoire d’Israël ; et la main du SEIGNEUR fut contre les Philistins pendant tous les jours de Samuel.
|
13 ¶ So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
|
14 Et les villes que les Philistins avaient prises sur Israël furent restituées à Israël, depuis Ekron jusqu’à Gath, ainsi que leurs confins qu’Israël avait délivré de la main des Philistins, et il y eut paix entre Israël et les Amorites.
|
14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.
|
15 Et Samuel jugea Israël tous les jours de sa vie.
|
15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
|
16 Et il allait chaque année faire le tour de Bethel, et de Gilgal (Guilgal), et de Mizpeh (Mitspa) et il jugeait Israël en tous ces lieux-là.
|
16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.
|
17 Puis il retournait à Ramah, car là était sa maison, et là, il jugeait Israël ; et il y bâtit un autel au SEIGNEUR.
|
17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
|
