1 Et Samuel prit une fiole d’huile et la versa sur sa tête, et il l’embrassa, et dit : N’est-ce pas parce que le SEIGNEUR l’a oint pour être capitaine sur son héritage ?

 1 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

2 Quand tu me quitteras aujourd’hui, tu trouveras deux hommes près du sépulcre de Rachel, sur la frontière de Benjamin, à Zelzah, et ils te diront : Les ânesses que tu étais allé chercher sont trouvées ; et voici, ton père ne pense plus aux ânesses, mais il est attristé à cause de vous, disant : Que ferai-je au sujet de mon fils ?

 2 When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

3 Puis tu partiras d’ici et tu continueras, et tu arriveras jusqu’à la plaine de Tabor, et là, tu seras rencontré par trois hommes qui montent vers Dieu à Bethel, l’un portant trois chevreaux, l’autre trois miches de pain, et l’autre une bouteille de vin ;

 3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

4 Et ils te salueront, et te donneront deux miches de pain, que tu recevras de leurs mains.

 4 And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

5 Après cela, tu iras au coteau de Dieu, où est la garnison des Philistins ; et il arrivera qu’en entrant dans la ville, tu rencontreras une compagnie de prophètes, descendant du haut lieu, avec devant eux un psaltérion, et un tambourin, et une flûte et une harpe, et ils prophétiseront ;

 5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

6 Et l’Esprit du SEIGNEUR viendra sur toi, et tu prophétiseras avec eux, et tu seras changé en un autre homme.

 6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7 Et qu’il soit ainsi, lorsque ces signes te seront arrivés, tu feras ce qui se présentera à toi ; car Dieu est avec toi.

 7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

8 Et tu descendras devant moi à Gilgal (Guilgal) ; et voici, je descendrai vers toi, pour offrir des offrandes consumées et sacrifier des sacrifices de paix ; tu attendras sept jours, jusqu’à ce que je vienne vers toi, et je te montrerai ce que tu devras faire.

 8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

9 ¶ Et il arriva ainsi, qu’aussitôt qu’il eut tourné le dos pour quitter Samuel, Dieu lui donna un autre cœur, et tous ces signes arrivèrent ce jour-là.

 9 ¶ And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

10 Et quand ils arrivèrent au coteau, voici, une compagnie de prophètes vint à sa rencontre ; et l’Esprit de Dieu vint sur lui, et il prophétisa au milieu d’eux.

 10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

11 Et il arriva que, lorsque tous ceux qui l’avaient connu auparavant virent qu’il prophétisait avec les prophètes, ceux du peuple alors se dirent l’un à l’autre : Qu’est-ce qui est arrivé au fils de Kish ? Saul est-il aussi parmi les prophètes ?

 11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

12 Et quelqu’un de là répondit, et dit : Mais qui est leur père ? C’est pourquoi cela devint un proverbe Saul aussi est-il parmi les prophètes ?

 12 And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

13 Et quand il eut cessé de prophétiser, il vint au haut lieu.

 13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

14 ¶ Et l’oncle de Saul lui dit à lui, et à son serviteur : Où êtes-vous allés ? Et il répondit : Chercher les ânesses et quand nous avons vu qu’elles n’étaient nulle part, nous sommes allés vers Samuel.

 14 ¶ And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.

15 Et l’oncle de Saul dit : Dis-moi, je te prie, ce que vous a dit Samuel.

 15 And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

16 Et Saul dit à son oncle : Il nous a dit distinctement que les ânesses étaient trouvées. Mais au sujet du royaume, dont Samuel avait parlé, il ne le lui dit pas.

 16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

17 Et Samuel convoqua le peuple, devant le SEIGNEUR, à Mizpeh (Mitspa) ;

 17 ¶ And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;

18 Et il dit aux enfants d’Israël : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël : J’ai fait monter Israël hors d’Égypte, et je vous ai délivrés de la main des Égyptiens, et de la main de tous les royaumes et de ceux qui vous opprimaient ;

 18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19 Et vous avez aujourd’hui rejetez votre Dieu, qui lui-même vous a sauvés de toutes vos adversités et de toutes vos tribulations, et vous lui avez dit : Non, mais établis un roi sur nous. Maintenant donc, présentez-vous devant le SEIGNEUR, selon vos tribus, et selon vos milliers.

 19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

20 Et lorsque Samuel fit approcher toutes les tribus d’Israël, la tribu de Benjamin fut prise.

 20 And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

21 Quand, il fit approcher la tribu de Benjamin, selon ses familles, la famille de Matri fut prise, et Saul, le fils de Kish, fut pris, et quand ils le cherchèrent, on ne le trouva pas.

 21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

22 C’est pourquoi ils consultèrent encore le SEIGNEUR, pour savoir si l’homme viendrait encore ici. Et le SEIGNEUR répondit : Voici, il s’est caché parmi le fatras.

 22 Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.

23 Et ils coururent, et le tirèrent de là, et quand il se présenta au milieu du peuple, il était plus grand qu’aucun parmi le peuple, depuis ses épaules et au-dessus.

 23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

24 Et Samuel dit à tout le peuple : Ne voyez-vous pas qu’il n’y en a pas parmi tout le peuple de semblable à celui que le SEIGNEUR a choisi ? Et tout le peuple jeta des cris de joie, et dit : Que Dieu sauve le roi.

 24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

25 Alors Samuel dit au peuple le droit du royaume, et l’écrivit dans un livre, et le mit devant le SEIGNEUR. Puis Samuel renvoya tout le peuple, chacun en sa maison.

 25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

26 ¶ Et Saul aussi s’en alla à sa maison, à Gibeah, ainsi qu’un groupe d’hommes, dont Dieu avait touché le cœur, qui alla avec lui.

 26 ¶ And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

27 Mais les enfants de Belial dirent : Comment cet homme nous sauverait-il ? Et ils le méprisèrent, et ne lui apportèrent pas de présent. Mais il se tut.

 27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.
