1 Et il arriva que, quand David et ses hommes arrivèrent à Ziklag (Tsiklag), le troisième jour, les Amalekites avaient envahi le Sud et Ziklag (Tsiklag) ; ils avaient frappé Ziklag (Tsiklag) et l’avaient brûlée par le feu.

 1 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;

2 Et ils avaient emmené captives les femmes qui y étaient, ils n’avaient tué personne, ni les petits ni les grands ; mais ils les avaient emmenés, et s’en étaient allés leur chemin.

 2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.

3 ¶ David donc et ses hommes arrivèrent à la ville ; et voici, elle était brûlée par le feu ; et leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs filles, avaient été emmenés captifs.

 3 ¶ So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.

4 Alors David et le peuple qui était avec lui élevèrent leur voix, et pleurèrent jusqu’à ce qu’ils n’aient plus aucune force pour pleurer.

 4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.

5 Et les deux femmes de David avaient été emmenées captives, Ahinoam, la Jezreelite, et Abigail, la Carmelite, la femme de Nabal.

 5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

6 Et David fut grandement angoissé, car le peuple parlait de le lapider ; parce que l’âme de tout le peuple était affligée, chacun à cause de ses fils et de ses filles ; mais David trouva courage dans le SEIGNEUR son Dieu,

 6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

7 Et David dit à Abiathar, le prêtre, le fils d’Ahimelech : Je te prie, apporte-moi l’éphod. Et Abiathar apporta l’éphod à David.

 7 And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.

8 Et David interrogea le SEIGNEUR, disant : Poursuivrai-je cette troupe ? les rattraperai-je ? Et il lui répondit : Poursuis, car tu les rattraperas certainement et tu ne manqueras pas de reprendre tout.

 8 And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

9 David s’en alla donc, lui et les six cents hommes qui étaient avec lui ; et ils arrivèrent jusqu’au torrent de Besor, où ceux qui étaient restés en arrière s’arrêtèrent.

 9 So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.

10 Mais David et quatre cents hommes firent la poursuite, et deux cents restèrent derrière, trop fatigués pour passer le torrent de Besor.

 10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.

11 ¶ Et ils trouvèrent dans les champs, un Égyptien, et ils l’amenèrent à David, et ils lui donnèrent du pain, et il mangea, et ils lui donnèrent de l’eau à boire ;

 11 ¶ And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;

12 Ils lui donnèrent aussi un morceau de gâteau de figues sèches, et deux grappes de raisins ; et après avoir mangé, son esprit revint à lui ; car il n’avait mangé ni pain, ni bu d’eau depuis trois jours et trois nuits.

 12 And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.

13 Et David lui dit : À qui appartiens-tu ? et d’où es-tu ? Et il dit : Je suis un jeune garçon égyptien, serviteur d’un Amalekite ; et mon maître m’a abandonné, parce qu’il y a trois jours je suis tombé malade,

 13 And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick.

14 Nous avons fait une invasion au sud des Cherethites, et sur le territoire qui appartient à Judah (Juda), et au sud de Caleb, et nous avons brûlé Ziklag (Tsiklag) par le feu.

 14 We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.

15 Et David lui dit : Peux-tu me descendre vers cette compagnie ? Et il dit : Jure-moi, par Dieu, que tu ne me tueras pas, et que tu ne me livreras pas entre les mains de mon maître, et je te descendrai vers cette compagnie.

 15 And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.

16 ¶ Et lorsqu’il le descendit, voici, ils étaient dispersés sur toute la terre mangeant, et buvant et dansant, à cause du grand butin qu’ils avaient enlevé du pays des Philistins et du pays de Judah (Juda).

 16 ¶ And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.

17 Et David les frappa depuis le crépuscule jusqu’au soir du lendemain ; et aucun d’eux n’échappa, excepté quatre cents jeunes hommes qui montèrent sur des chameaux et s’enfuirent.

 17 And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.

18 Et David reprit tout ce que les Amalekites avaient pris ; et David délivra ses deux femmes.

 18 And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.

19 Et il trouvèrent que rien ne leur manquait, ni petit, ni grand, ni fils, ni filles, ni du butin, ni quoi que ce soit qu’ils leur avaient emporté ; David recouvra tout.

 19 And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.

20 Et David prit tout le gros et le menu bétail, lequel ils menèrent devant cet autre troupeau et on disait : C’est ici le butin de David.

 20 And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drave before those other cattle, and said, This is David’s spoil.

21 ¶ Et David vint vers les deux cents hommes qui avaient été tellement fatigués pour suivre David, lesquels on avait fait rester au torrent de Besor. Et ils sortirent à la rencontre de David et à la rencontre du peuple qui était avec lui ; et lorsque David s’approcha du peuple, il les salua.

 21 ¶ And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.

22 Alors tous les hommes et les hommes de Belial, d’entre ceux qui étaient allés avec David, dirent : Puisqu’ils ne sont pas venus avec nous, nous ne leur donnerons rien du butin que nous avons recouvré, sauf à chacun sa femme et ses enfants, afin qu’ils les emmènent, et s’en aillent.

 22 Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.

23 Puis David dit : Vous ne ferez pas ainsi, mes frères, avec ce que nous a donné le SEIGNEUR, lequel nous a gardés, et a livré en notre main la compagnie qui était venue contre nous.

 23 Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.

24 Car qui vous écoutera dans cette affaire ? Car comme est la part de celui qui descend à la bataille, ainsi sera la part de celui qui attend auprès de l’attirail, ils partageront ensemble.

 24 For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.

25 Et il fut ainsi depuis ce jour-là et après, et il en fut un statut et une ordonnance en Israël, jusqu’à ce jour.

 25 And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day.

26 ¶ Et lorsque David revint à Ziklag (Tsiklag), il envoya du butin aux anciens de Judah (Juda), savoir à ses amis, disant : Voici un présent, pour vous, du butin des ennemis du SEIGNEUR.

 26 ¶ And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD;

27 Il en envoya à ceux qui étaient à Bethel, et à ceux qui étaient à Ramoth au Sud, et à ceux qui étaient à Jattir,

 27 To them which were in Bethel, and to them which were in south Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir,

28 Et à ceux qui étaient à Aroer, et à ceux qui étaient à Siphmoth, et à ceux qui étaient à Eshtemoa,

 28 And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa,

29 Et à ceux qui étaient à Rachal, et à ceux qui étaient dans les villes des Jerahmeelites, et à ceux qui étaient dans les villes des Kenites,

 29 And to them which were in Rachal, and to them which were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites,

30 Et à ceux qui étaient à Hormah, et à ceux qui étaient à Chorashan, et à ceux qui étaient à Athach,

 30 And to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Chorashan, and to them which were in Athach,

31 Et à ceux qui étaient à Hébron, et dans tous les lieux par où David et ses hommes étaient passés.

 31 And to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were wont to haunt.
