1 Or les Philistins se battirent contre Israël, et les hommes d’Israël s’enfuirent devant les Philistins, et tombèrent tués au mont Gilboa (Guilboa).

 1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

2 Et les Philistins poursuivirent avec acharnement Saul et ses fils, et les Philistins tuèrent Jonathan, Abinadab, et Melchishua, les fils de Saul.

 2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.

3 Et la bataille se renforça contre Saul ; et les archers l’atteignirent, et il fut gravement blessé par les archers.

 3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.

4 Alors Saul dit à celui qui portait ses armes : Tire ton épée, et transperce-moi, de peur que ces incirconcis ne viennent, et ne me transpercent, et ne m’outragent. Mais celui qui portait ses armes ne voulut pas le faire, car il avait grand peur. C’est pourquoi Saul prit l’épée, et se jeta dessus.

 4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

5 Et lorsque celui qui portait ses armes vit que Saul était mort, il se jeta aussi sur son épée, et mourut avec lui.

 5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

6 Ainsi moururent Saul et ses trois fils, et celui qui portait ses armes, et tous ses hommes ce même jour.

 6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

7 ¶ Et quand les hommes d’Israël qui étaient de l’autre côté de la vallée, et ceux qui étaient de l’autre côté du Jourdain virent que les hommes d’Israël s’étaient enfuis, et que Saul et ses fils étaient morts, ils abandonnèrent les villes et s’enfuirent ; et les Philistins vinrent et y demeurèrent.

 7 ¶ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8 Et il arriva que, le lendemain, quand les Philistins vinrent pour dépouiller les morts, ils trouvèrent Saul et ses trois fils tombés au mont Gilboa (Guilboa).

 8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

9 Et ils coupèrent sa tête et le dépouillèrent de son armure ; et envoyèrent au pays des Philistins tout autour, pour le publier dans la maison de leurs idoles, et parmi le peuple.

 9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.

10 Et ils mirent son armure dans la maison d’Ashtaroth, et ils attachèrent son corps à la muraille de Bethshan.

 10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.

11 Et quand les habitants de Jabeshgilead apprirent ce que les Philistins avaient fait à Saul ;

 11 ¶ And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;

12 Tous les vaillants hommes se levèrent et marchèrent toute la nuit, et prirent le corps de Saul et les corps de ses fils, de la muraille de Bethshan, et vinrent à Jabesh, et les brûlèrent là.

 12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

13 Et ils prirent leurs os, et les enterrèrent sous un arbre à Jabesh ; et ils jeûnèrent sept jours.

 13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
