1 J’ai composé le traité précédent, Ô Théophile, sur tout ce que Jésus commença à la fois à faire et à enseigner,

 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Jusqu’au jour où il fut enlevé, après qu’il eut donné au moyen de l’Esprit Saint des commandements aux apôtres qu’il avait choisis:

 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 Auxquels aussi il se montra lui-même vivant après sa passion, par beaucoup de preuves infaillibles, étant vu par eux pendant quarante jours, et parlant des choses se rapportant au royaume de Dieu:

 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 Et étant assemblé avec eux, leur commanda qu’ils ne partent pas de Jérusalem, mais d’attendre la promesse du Père, laquelle, dit-il, vous avez entendue de moi.

 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 Car Jean a véritablement baptisé avec de l’eau; mais vous serez baptisés avec l’Esprit Saint d’ici peu de jours.

 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 Lorsqu’ils se trouvèrent donc assemblés, ils lui demandèrent, disant: Seigneur, est-ce en ce temps-ci que tu restaureras de nouveau le royaume à Israël?

 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 Et il leur dit: Ce n’est pas à vous de connaître les temps ou les saisons, que le Père a mis en son propre pouvoir.

 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 Mais vous recevrez du pouvoir, après que l’Esprit Saint sera venu sur vous: et vous serez mes témoins, à la fois à Jérusalem et dans toute la Judée, et en Samarie, et jusqu’aux endroits les plus reculés de la terre.

 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 Et quand il eut dit ces choses, tandis qu’ils regardaient, il fut enlevé; et un nuage le reçut hors de leur vue.

 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 Et tandis qu’ils regardaient fermement vers le ciel pendant qu’il montait, voici, deux hommes se tinrent près d’eux en tenue blanche;

 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Lesquels aussi dirent: Vous, hommes de Galilée, pourquoi vous tenez-vous regardant fixement vers le ciel? Ce même Jésus, lequel est enlevé d’avec vous dans le ciel, viendra de la même manière que vous l’avez vu aller au ciel.

 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Alors ils retournèrent à Jérusalem depuis le mont appelé Oliviers, lequel est de Jérusalem à un chemin de sabbat.

 12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 Et lorsqu’ils furent entrés, ils montèrent dans une chambre en haut où demeuraient Pierre, et Jacques, et Jean, et André, Philippe, et Thomas, Barthélemy, et Matthieu, Jacques, le fils d’Alphée, et Simon Zélotes, et Jude, le frère de Jacques.

 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 Tous ceux-là continuaient d’un commun accord en prière et supplication, avec les femmes, et Marie, la mère de Jésus, et avec ses frères.

 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 ¶ Et en ces jours-là, Pierre se leva au milieu des disciples (le nombre des noms assemblés était d’environ cent vingt), et dit:

 15 ¶ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

16 Hommes et frères, cette écriture devait être réalisée, laquelle l’Esprit Saint par la bouche de David, a parlé d’avance concernant Judas, qui a été guide de ceux qui prirent Jésus.

 16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 Car il était compté parmi nous, et avait pris part à ce ministère.

 17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18 Or cet homme acheta un champ avec la rétribution de l’iniquité; et tombant la tête la première, il a éclaté par le milieu, et toutes ses entrailles jaillirent.

 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 Et ceci a été connu de tous les habitants de Jérusalem; à tel point que ce champ est appelé, dans leur propre langue, Aceldama, c’est-à-dire le Champ du sang.

 19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 Car il est écrit dans le livre des Psaumes, Que son habitation soit déserte, et qu’aucun homme n’y demeure: et qu’un autre prenne sa charge d’évêque.

 20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

21 C’est pourquoi d’entre ces hommes qui nous ont accompagnés pendant tout le temps que le Seigneur Jésus allait et venait parmi nous,

 21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 En commençant depuis le baptême de Jean jusqu’au jour même où il a été enlevé d’avec nous, quelqu’un doit être ordonné pour être un témoin avec nous de sa résurrection.

 22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 Et ils en instituèrent deux, Joseph, appelé Barsabas, qui était surnommé Juste, et Matthias.

 23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 Et ils prièrent, et dirent: Toi, Seigneur, qui connais les cœurs de tous les hommes, déclare lequel de ces deux tu as choisi,

 24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25 Afin qu’il puisse prendre part à ce ministère et à l’apostolat duquel Judas est tombé en transgressant pour aller en son propre lieu.

 25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26 Et ils tirèrent au sort; et le sort tomba sur Matthias; et il fut mis au nombre des onze apôtres.

 26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
