1 Mais un certain homme, nommé Ananias, avec Saphira sa femme, vendit une possession,

 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 Et garda une partie du prix, sa femme aussi en avait connaissance, et apporta une certaine partie, et la déposa aux pieds des apôtres.

 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3 Mais Pierre dit: Ananias, pourquoi Satan a-t-il rempli ton cœur pour mentir à l’Esprit Saint, et à garder une partie du prix du terrain?

 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Pendant qu’il restait, ne t’appartenait-il pas? et après l’avoir vendu, n’était-il pas à ta propre disposition? Pourquoi as-tu conçu cette chose dans ton cœur? Tu n’as pas menti aux hommes, mais à Dieu.

 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5 Et Ananias entendant ces paroles tomba à terre, et rendit l’esprit: et une grande crainte vint sur tous ceux qui entendirent ces choses.

 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6 Et les jeunes hommes se levèrent, l’enveloppèrent, et l’emportèrent, et l’enterrèrent.

 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7 Et il était environ trois heures plus tard, lorsque sa femme, ne sachant pas ce qui s’était passé, entra.

 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8 Et Pierre lui répondit: Dis-moi si vous avez vendu le terrain à tel prix? Et elle dit: Oui, pour tant.

 8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

9 Alors Pierre lui dit: Comment se fait-il que vous vous soyez mis d’accord pour tenter l’Esprit du Seigneur? Voici, les pieds de ceux qui ont enterré ton mari sont à la porte, et ils t’emporteront.

 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

10 Alors elle tomba à terre aussitôt à ses pieds, et rendit l’esprit: et les jeunes hommes entrèrent, et la trouvèrent morte et, l’emportant, l’enterrèrent auprès de son mari.

 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11 Et une grande crainte vint sur toute l’église, et sur tous ceux qui entendirent ces choses.

 11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

12 ¶ Et par les mains des apôtres beaucoup de signes et de prodiges s’effectuaient parmi le peuple; (et ils étaient tous d’un commun accord au porche de Salomon.

 12 ¶ And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

13 Et aucun homme des autres n’osait se joindre à eux: mais le peuple les magnifiait.

 13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

14 Et des croyants étaient ajoutés de plus en plus au Seigneur, des multitudes d’hommes et de femmes).

 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15 À tel point qu’il amenaient les malades dans les rues, et les plaçaient sur des lits et des civières, afin qu’au moins l’ombre de Pierre passant, puisse couvrir quelques-uns d’entre eux.

 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

16 Une multitude venait aussi des villes avoisinantes à Jérusalem, amenant des gens malades, et ceux qui étaient tourmentés par des esprits impurs: et tous furent guéris.

 16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

17 ¶ Alors le grand prêtre se leva, et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui (laquelle est la secte des Sadducéens), et ils furent remplis d’indignation,

 17 ¶ Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

18 Et posèrent leurs mains sur les apôtres, et les mirent dans la prison commune.

 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

19 Mais l’ange du Seigneur de nuit ouvrit les portes de la prison et les amena dehors, et dit:

 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

20 Allez, et dites dans le temple au peuple toutes les paroles de cette vie.

 20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

21 Et lorsqu’ils entendirent cela, ils entrèrent dans le temple tôt le matin, et enseignèrent. Mais le grand prêtre vint, et ceux qui étaient avec lui, et ils assemblèrent le conseil, et tout le sénat des enfants d’Israël, et envoyèrent les chercher à la prison.

 21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

22 Mais lorsque les officiers vinrent et ne les trouvèrent pas dans la prison, ils s’en retournèrent et racontèrent,

 22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,

23 Disant: Nous avons en vérité trouvé la prison fermée en toute sécurité, et les gardiens se tenant dehors devant les portes: mais lorsque nous avons ouvert, nous n’avons trouvé aucun homme dedans.

 23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

24 Or lorsque le grand prêtre et le capitaine du temple et les principaux prêtres entendirent ces choses, ils furent dans le doute à leur sujet où cela allait mener.

 24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

25 Alors quelqu’un vint et leur raconta, disant: Voici, les hommes que vous avez mis en prison sont dans le temple, et enseignent le peuple.

 25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

26 Alors le capitaine s’en alla avec les officiers, et les amena sans violence: car ils craignaient le peuple, de peur qu’ils soient lapidés.

 26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

27 Et lorsqu’ils les eurent amenés, ils les mirent devant le conseil: et le grand prêtre leur demanda,

 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

28 Disant: Ne vous avons-nous pas strictement commandé de ne pas enseigner en ce nom? Et, voici, vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre doctrine, et avez l’intention de faire venir le sang de cet homme sur nous.

 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

29 Alors Pierre et les autres apôtres répondirent et dirent: Nous devons obéir à Dieu plutôt qu’aux hommes.

 29 ¶ Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

30 Le Dieu de nos pères ressuscita Jésus, que vous avez tué, et pendu à un arbre.

 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

31 C’est lui que Dieu a exalté par sa main droite pour être un Prince et un Sauveur, pour donner la repentance à Israël et le pardon des péchés.

 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 Et nous sommes ses témoins de ces choses; et l’Esprit Saint l’est aussi, que Dieu a donné à ceux qui lui obéissent.

 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

33 ¶ Quand ils entendirent cela, ils furent frappés au cœur, et tinrent conseil pour les tuer.

 33 ¶ When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

34 Alors se leva dans le Conseil, un Pharisien, nommé Gamaliel, un docteur de la loi, qui avait réputation parmi tout le peuple, et qui commanda de mettre dehors les apôtres pour un peu de temps;

 34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

35 Et il leur dit: Vous, hommes d’Israël, prenez garde à vous-mêmes de ce que vous avez l’intention de faire touchant ces hommes.

 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

36 Car avant ces jours-ci s’éleva Theudas, se vantant d’être quelqu’un; auquel se joignit un nombre d’hommes, d’environ quatre cents, qui fut tué, et tous ceux qui lui avaient obéi furent dispersés et réduits à rien.

 36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

37 Après cet homme, s’éleva Judas de Galilée, aux jours de la taxe, et il attira à lui un grand nombre de personnes: lui aussi périt; et tous, c’est-à-dire tous ceux qui lui obéirent, furent dispersés.

 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

38 Et maintenant je vous dis: Évitez ces hommes, et laissez-les tranquilles: car si ce conseil ou cette œuvre est des hommes, cela n’aboutira à rien:

 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 Mais si c’est de Dieu, vous ne pouvez le renverser; de peur que peut-être vous vous trouviez même à vous battre contre Dieu.

 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

40 Et ils l’approuvèrent: et quand ils eurent appelé les apôtres, et les eurent battus, ils commandèrent qu’ils ne devaient pas parler dans le nom de Jésus, et ils les laissèrent aller.

 40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 ¶ Et ils partirent de la présence du conseil, se réjouissant de ce qu’ils avaient été estimés dignes de souffrir la honte pour son nom.

 41 ¶ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 Et chaque jour dans le temple et dans chaque maison ils ne cessaient d’enseigner et de prêcher Jésus Christ.

 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
