1 Et Saul était consentant à sa mort. Et en ce temps-là, il y eut une grande persécution contre l’église qui était à Jérusalem; et ils furent tous dispersés de tous côtés à travers toutes les régions de la Judée et de la Samarie, excepté les apôtres.

 1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judæa and Samaria, except the apostles.

2 Et des hommes dévots emportèrent Étienne pour son ensevelissement, et firent grande lamentation sur lui.

 2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

3 Quant à Saul, il faisait des ravages dans l’église, entrant dans chaque maison, et traînant hommes et femmes, il les mettait en prison.

 3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

4 Par conséquent ceux qui avaient été dispersés de tous côtés, allaient partout prêchant la parole.

 4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

5 Alors Philippe descendit à la ville de Samarie, et leur prêcha Christ.

 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

6 Et le peuple d’un commun accord prêta attention à ces choses que Philippe disait, l’entendant et voyant les miracles qu’il faisait.

 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 Car les esprits impurs, criant d’une voix retentissante, sortaient de beaucoup qui en étaient possédés: et beaucoup de paralytiques et ceux qui étaient boiteux, furent guéris.

 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 Et il y eut grande joie dans cette ville.

 8 And there was great joy in that city.

9 Mais il y avait un certain homme, appelé Simon, qui auparavant pratiquait la sorcellerie dans cette ville même, et ensorcelait le peuple de Samarie, se faisant passer pour un grand personnage:

 9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

10 Auquel ils prêtaient tous attention, depuis le plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, disant: Cet homme est le grand pouvoir de Dieu.

 10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

11 Et ils avaient de l’égard pour lui, parce que depuis longtemps il les avait ensorcelés par ses sorcelleries.

 11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

12 Mais quand ils crurent Philippe prêchant les choses concernant le royaume de Dieu et le nom de Jésus Christ, ils furent baptisés, tant les hommes que les femmes.

 12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

13 Alors Simon lui-même crut aussi: et lorsqu’il fut baptisé, il resta avec Philippe, et s’interrogea, en regardant les miracles et les signes qui se faisaient.

 13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

14 Or quand les apôtres qui étaient à Jérusalem entendirent que la Samarie avait reçu la parole de Dieu, ils leur envoyèrent Pierre et Jean:

 14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Qui, lorsqu’ils furent descendus, prièrent pour eux, afin qu’ils puissent recevoir l’Esprit Saint:

 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (Car il n’était encore descendu sur aucun d’eux: ils avaient seulement été baptisés dans le nom du Seigneur Jésus).

 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 Puis ils posèrent leurs mains sur eux, et ils reçurent l’Esprit Saint.

 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18 Et lorsque Simon vit que l’Esprit Saint était donné au moyen des le apôtres posant leurs mains sur eux, il leur offrit de l’argent,

 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Disant: Donnez-moi aussi ce pouvoir, afin que quiconque sur qui je poserai les mains puisse recevoir l’Esprit Saint.

 19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20 Mais Pierre lui dit: Que ton argent périsse avec toi, parce que tu as pensé que le don de Dieu pouvait être acheté avec de l’argent.

 20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21 Tu n’as ni part, ni lot dans cette affaire: car ton cœur n’est pas droit à la vue de Dieu.

 21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

22 Repens-toi donc de ton immoralité, et prie Dieu, s’il est possible que la pensée de ton cœur puisse être pardonnée.

 22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

23 Car je perçois que tu es dans un fiel d’amertume, et dans le lien d’iniquité.

 23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

24 Alors Simon répondit et dit: vous priez le Seigneur pour moi, afin qu’aucune des choses dont vous avez parlé ne vienne sur moi.

 24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

25 Et eux, lorsqu’ils eurent témoigné et prêché la parole du Seigneur, retournèrent à Jérusalem, et prêchèrent l’évangile dans beaucoup de villages des Samaritains.

 25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

26 Et l’ange du Seigneur parla à Philippe, disant: Lève-toi, et va vers le Sud dans le chemin qui descend de Jérusalem vers Gaza, lequel est désert.

 26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

27 Et il se leva et partit: et, voici, un homme d’Éthiopie, un eunuque de grande autorité sous Candace, reine des Éthiopiens, qui avait la charge de tout son trésor, et qui était venu à Jérusalem pour adorer,

 27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28 S’en retournait, et étant assis dans son chariot lisait Ésaïe le prophète.

 28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29 Alors l’Esprit dit à Philippe: Approche-toi, et joins-toi à ce chariot.

 29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30 Et Philippe courut vers lui, et l’entendit lire le prophète Ésaïe, et dit: Comprends-tu ce que tu lis?

 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 Et il dit: Comment le pourrais-je, à moins qu’un homme ne me guide? Et il désira de Philippe qu’il monte et s’asseye avec lui.

 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 Le passage de l’écriture qu’il lisait était celui-ci, Il a été mené comme un mouton à l’abattoir; et comme un agneau muet devant son tondeur, ainsi il n’a pas ouvert sa bouche:

 32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 Dans son humiliation, son jugement a été retiré: et qui déclarera sa génération? Car sa vie est ôtée de la terre.

 33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 Et l’eunuque répondit à Philippe, et dit: Je te prie, de qui le prophète dit-il cela? De lui-même ou d’un autre homme?

 34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 Alors Philippe ouvrit sa bouche et commença à la même écriture, et lui prêcha Jésus.

 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 Et comme ils continuaient leur chemin, ils vinrent à une certaine eau: et l’eunuque dit: Vois, il y a ici de l’eau; qu’est-ce qui m’empêche d’être baptisé?

 36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37 Et Philippe dit: Si tu crois de tout ton cœur, tu le peux. Et il répondit et dit: Je crois que Jésus Christ est le Fils de Dieu.

 37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38 Et il commanda que le chariot s’arrête: et ils descendirent tous deux dans l’eau, tous deux, Philippe et l’eunuque; et il le baptisa.

 38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39 Et quand ils furent remontés hors de l’eau, l’Esprit du Seigneur enleva Philippe, si bien que l’eunuque ne le vit plus: et il alla son chemin se réjouissant.

 39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

40 Mais Philippe fut trouvé à Azotus: et en la traversant, il prêchait dans toutes les villes, jusqu’à ce qu’il vienne à Césarée.

 40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea.
