1 Or vers ce temps-là, le roi Hérode étendit ses mains pour tourmenter certains de l’église.

 1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

2 Et il tua par l’épée Jacques, le frère de Jean.

 2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

3 Et parce qu’il vit que cela plaisait aux Juifs, il procéda davantage en prenant Pierre aussi. (C’étaient alors les jours du pain sans levain).

 3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

4 Et après qu’il l’eut saisi, il le mit en prison, et le livra à quatre quarterons de soldats pour le garder; ayant l’intention après Pâques l’amener devant le peuple.

 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

5 Pierre était donc gardé en prison: mais l’église faisait sans cesse prière à Dieu pour lui.

 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

6 Et lorsque Hérode allait le dévoiler, cette même nuit, Pierre dormait entre deux soldats, attaché avec deux chaînes: et les gardiens devant la porte gardaient la prison.

 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

7 Et, voici, l’ange du Seigneur vint à lui, et une lumière brilla dans la prison: et il frappa Pierre sur le côté et le réveilla, disant: Lève-toi vite. Et ses chaînes tombèrent de ses mains.

 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

8 Et l’ange lui dit: Ceins-toi, et lace tes sandales. Et il fit ainsi. Et il lui dit: Jette ton vêtement sur toi et suis-moi.

 8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 Et il sortit, et le suivit; et ne savait pas que ce que l’ange faisait était vrai; mais pensait qu’il voyait une vision.

 9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 Lorsqu’ils eurent passé la première et la seconde garde, ils arrivèrent à la porte de fer qui conduit à la ville; laquelle s’ouvrit à eux d’elle-même: et ils sortirent et traversèrent une rue; et tout de suite l’ange le quitta.

 10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

11 Et lorsque Pierre revint à lui-même, il dit: Maintenant je sais avec certitude que le Seigneur a envoyé son ange, et m’a délivré de la main d’Hérode, et de toute l’attente du peuple des Juifs.

 11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 Et quand il eut considéré la chose, il alla à la maison de Marie, la mère de Jean, dont le surnom était Marc; où beaucoup étaient assemblés priant.

 12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

13 Et comme Pierre frappait à la porte du portail, une jeune fille, nommée Rhode, vint pour prêter l’oreille.

 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

14 Et lorsqu’elle reconnut la voix de Pierre, elle n’ouvrit pas le portail dans son exultation, mais courut à l’intérieur, et raconta que Pierre se tenait devant le portail.

 14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 Et ils lui dirent: Tu es folle. Mais elle affirmait avec constance que s’était cela précisément. Alors ils dirent: C’est son ange.

 15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

16 Mais Pierre continuait à frapper: et quand ils ouvrirent la porte, et le virent, ils furent étonnés.

 16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

17 Mais lui, leur faisant signe de la main de se taire, leur déclara comment le Seigneur l’avait fait sortir de la prison. Et il dit: Allez montrer ces choses à Jacques et aux frères. Et il partit, et s’en alla dans un autre lieu.

 17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

18 Or dès qu’il fit jour, il n’y eut pas petite agitation parmi les soldats, pour savoir ce que Pierre était devenu.

 18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

19 Et lorsque Hérode l’eut fait chercher, et ne l’eut pas trouvé, il fit examiner les gardiens, et commanda qu’ils soient mis à mort. Et il descendit de Judée à Césarée, et y séjourna.

 19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judæa to Cæsarea, and there abode.

20 ¶ Et Hérode était très mécontent avec ceux de Tyr et de Sidon: mais ils vinrent à lui d’un commun accord, et, ayant fait de Blastus, le chambellan du roi, leur ami, ils désirèrent la paix; parce que leur province était nourrie par la province du roi.

 20 ¶ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.

21 Et à un jour fixé, Hérode paré de sa tenue royale, s’assit sur son trône et leur fit un discours.

 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 Et le peuple s’écria, disant: C’est la voix d’un dieu, et non d’un homme.

 22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 Et immédiatement l’ange du Seigneur le frappa, parce qu’il n’avait pas donné la gloire à Dieu: et il fut mangé par les vers, et rendit l’esprit.

 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 ¶ Mais la parole de Dieu croissait et se multipliait.

 24 ¶ But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25 Et Barnabas et Saul revinrent de Jérusalem, lorsqu’ils eurent réalisé leur ministère, et prirent avec eux Jean, dont le surnom était Marc.

 25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
