1 Et certains hommes qui étaient descendus de Judée, enseignaient les frères, et disaient: À moins que vous ne soyez circoncis d’après la manière de Moïse, vous ne pouvez être sauvés.

 1 And certain men which came down from Judæa taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

2 Par conséquent lorsque Paul et Barnabas eurent une dissension pas petite et une dispute avec eux, ils décidèrent que Paul et Barnabas, et certains autres d’entre eux devraient monter à Jérusalem vers les apôtres et les anciens au sujet de cette question.

 2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

3 Et étant menés sur leur chemin par l’église, ils traversèrent la Phénicie et la Samarie, déclarant la conversion des Gentils: et ils causèrent une grande joie à tous les frères.

 3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

4 Et quand ils arrivèrent à Jérusalem, ils furent reçus par l’église, et par les apôtres et les anciens, et ils déclarèrent toutes les choses que Dieu avait faites avec eux.

 4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

5 Mais se levèrent certains de la secte des Pharisiens, qui croyaient, disant qu’il fallait les circoncire, et leur commander de garder la loi de Moïse.

 5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

6 ¶ Et les apôtres et les anciens s’assemblèrent pour considérer cette affaire.

 6 ¶ And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

7 Et lorsqu’il y eut beaucoup de dispute, Pierre se leva, et leur dit: Hommes et frères, vous savez comment depuis assez longtemps Dieu m’a choisi parmi nous, afin que les Gentils par ma bouche entendent la parole de l’évangile, et qu’ils croient.

 7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

8 Et Dieu, qui connaît les cœurs, leur a rendu témoignage en leur donnant l’Esprit Saint, comme il l’a fait envers nous;

 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

9 Et n’a mis aucune différence entre nous et eux, purifiant leurs cœurs par la foi.

 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

10 Maintenant donc, pourquoi tentez-vous Dieu, pour mettre un joug sur le cou des disciples, que ni nos pères ni nous n’avons été capables de porter?

 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

11 Mais nous croyons que par le moyen de la grâce du Seigneur Jésus Christ nous serons sauvés, comme eux.

 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

12 ¶ Alors toute la multitude garda le silence, et donna audience à Barnabas et Paul, déclarant quels miracles et prodiges Dieu avait effectués par eux, parmi les Gentils.

 12 ¶ Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

13 ¶ Et après qu’ils se turent, Jacques répondit, disant: Hommes et frères, prêtez-moi l’oreille:

 13 ¶ And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:

14 Siméon a déclaré comment Dieu a premièrement visité les Gentils, pour en tirer un peuple pour son nom.

 14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

15 Et à cela s’accordent les paroles des prophètes; comme il est écrit,

 15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

16 Après cela, je retournerai, et je bâtirai de nouveau le tabernacle de David, qui est tombé; et je bâtirai de nouveau ses ruines, et je l’érigerai:

 16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

17 Afin que le reste des hommes puisse rechercher le Seigneur, et tous les Gentils, sur lesquels mon nom est invoqué, dit le Seigneur, qui fait toutes ces choses.

 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

18 Toutes ses œuvres sont connues de Dieu depuis le commencement du monde.

 18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

19 C’est pourquoi mon opinion est que nous ne troublons pas ceux qui parmi les Gentils se sont tournés vers Dieu:

 19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

20 Mais que nous leur écrivions afin qu’ils s’abstiennent des pollutions des idoles, et de la fornication, et de ce qui est étranglé, et du sang.

 20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

21 Car Moïse depuis les temps anciens a dans chaque ville ceux qui le prêchent, étant lu dans les synagogues chaque jour du sabbat.

 21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

22 Alors il plut aux apôtres et aux anciens, avec toute l’église, d’envoyer à Antioche des hommes choisis de leur propre groupe, avec Paul et Barnabas; nommément, Judas, surnommé Barsabas, et Silas, hommes importants parmi les frères:

 22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

23 Et ils écrivirent des lettres par eux d’après cette manière; Les apôtres et les anciens et les frères envoient leur salutation aux frères qui sont d’entre les Gentils à Antioche, et en Syrie et en Cilicie:

 23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:

24 D’autant plus que nous avons entendu dire que certains qui sont sortis du milieu de nous vous ont troublés par des paroles, bouleversant vos âmes, disant: Vous devez être circoncis et garder la loi: auxquels nous n’avons donné de tel commandement:

 24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

25 Il nous a semblé bon, étant assemblés d’un commun accord, de vous envoyer des hommes choisis, avec nos bien-aimés Barnabas et Paul,

 25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 Hommes qui ont risqué leurs vies pour le nom de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ.

 26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 Nous avons donc envoyé Judas et Silas, qui aussi vous diront de vive voix les mêmes choses.

 27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 Car il a paru bon à l’Esprit Saint, et à nous, de ne pas mettre sur vous de plus grande charge que ces choses nécessaires;

 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 Que vous vous absteniez des viandes offertes aux idoles, et du sang, et de ce qui est étranglé, et de la fornication: desquelles choses si vous vous gardez, vous ferez bien. Portez-vous bien.

 29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

30 Ainsi lorsqu’ils prirent congé, ils vinrent à Antioche: et lorsqu’ils eurent assemblé la multitude, ils remirent l’épître:

 30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

31 Qui lorsqu’ils l’eurent lue, ils se réjouirent de la consolation.

 31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

32 Et Judas et Silas, étant eux-mêmes aussi prophètes, exhortèrent les frères par de nombreuses paroles et les affermirent.

 32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

33 Et après qu’ils se furent attardés là quelque temps, les frères les laissèrent aller en paix vers les apôtres.

 33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

34 Toutefois il plut à Silas de demeurer encore là.

 34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

35 Paul et Barnabas s’attardèrent aussi à Antioche, enseignant et prêchant la parole du Seigneur, avec beaucoup d’autres aussi.

 35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

36 ¶ Et quelques jours après, Paul dit à Barnabas: Retournons visiter nos frères, dans toutes les villes où nous avons prêché la parole du Seigneur, et voir comment ils vont.

 36 ¶ And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

37 Et Barnabas était déterminé à prendre avec eux Jean, dont le surnom était Marc.

 37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.

38 Mais Paul ne trouva pas bon de prendre avec eux celui qui les avait quittés en Pamphylie, et qui n’était pas allé à l’œuvre avec eux.

 38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

39 Et la contestation entre eux fut si vive, qu’ils se séparèrent l’un de l’autre: et ainsi Barnabas prit Marc, et fit voile vers Chypre;

 39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

40 Et Paul choisit Silas, et partit, étant recommandé à la grâce de Dieu par les frères.

 40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

41 Et il traversa la Syrie et la Cilicie, affermissant les églises.

 41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
