1 Puis il vint à Derbe et à Lystre: et, voici, un certain disciple était là, nommé Timothée, le fils d’une certaine femme, qui était juive et croyante; mais son père était grec:

 1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

2 Lequel était bien considéré des frères qui étaient à Lystre et à Iconium.

 2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

3 Paul voulut qu’il aille avec lui; et le prit, et le circoncit, à cause des Juifs qui étaient dans ces quartiers: car ils savaient tous que son père était Grec.

 3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

4 Et comme ils traversaient les villes, ils leur remirent les décrets pour les garder, lesquels avaient été ordonnés par les apôtres et les anciens qui étaient à Jérusalem.

 4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

5 Et ainsi les églises étaient établies dans la foi, et croissaient en nombre chaque jour.

 5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

6 Or lorsqu’ils eurent traversé toute la Phrygie et la région de Galatie, et qu’ils furent empêchés par l’Esprit Saint de prêcher la parole en Asie,

 6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

7 Après qu’ils furent arrivés en Mysie, ils essayèrent d’aller en Bithynie: mais l’Esprit ne le leur permit pas.

 7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

8 Et passant par la Mysie, ils descendirent à Troas.

 8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

9 Et une vision apparut à Paul dans la nuit; Un homme de Macédoine se tenait debout, et le pria, disant: Viens en Macédoine et aide-nous.

 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

10 Et après qu’il eut vu la vision, immédiatement nous nous sommes efforcés d’aller en Macédoine, concluant avec assurance que le Seigneur nous avait appelés à leur prêcher l’évangile.

 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

11 Par conséquent embarquant de Troas, nous sommes arrivés directement à Samothrace, et le jour suivant à Néapolis;

 11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;

12 Et de là à Philippes, qui est la principale ville de cette partie de la Macédoine, et une colonie: et nous avons séjourné quelques jours dans cette ville.

 12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.

13 Et le jour du sabbat, nous sommes sortis hors de la ville, le long d’une rivière, où l’on avait l’habitude de faire la prière; et nous nous sommes assis, et avons parlé aux femmes qui venaient là.

 13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

14 ¶ Et une certaine femme, nommée Lydie, une marchande de pourpre, de la ville de Thyatire, qui adorait Dieu, nous écoutait: le Seigneur lui ouvrit le cœur, pour qu’elle soit attentive aux choses dont parlait Paul.

 14 ¶ And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

15 Et lorsqu’elle fut baptisée, et sa maisonnée, elle nous implora, disant: Si vous m’avez jugée être fidèle au Seigneur, venez dans ma maison, et demeurez-y. Et elle nous y contraignit.

 15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

16 ¶ Et il arriva, comme nous allions à la prière, une certaine jeune fille possédée d’un esprit de divination, qui apportait à ses maîtres beaucoup de gain par sa divination, vint à notre rencontre:

 16 ¶ And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

17 Celle-ci suivit Paul et nous, et criait, disant: Ces hommes sont les serviteurs du Dieu très haut, qui nous montre le chemin du salut.

 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

18 Et elle fit cela pendant beaucoup de jours. Mais Paul, étant navré, se retourna et dit à l’esprit: Je te commande dans le nom de Jésus Christ de sortir d’elle. Et il sortit à l’heure même.

 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

19 ¶ Mais lorsque ses maîtres virent que l’espérance de leurs gains était partie, ils attrapèrent Paul et Silas, et les traînèrent sur la place du marché devant les dirigeants,

 19 ¶ And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,

20 Et les menèrent aux magistrats, disant: Ces hommes, juifs, troublent extrêmement notre ville,

 20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

21 Et enseignent des coutumes, lesquelles ne nous sont pas permises de recevoir, ni d’observer, à nous Romains.

 21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

22 Et la multitude se souleva ensemble contre eux: et les magistrats arrachèrent leurs effets, et commandèrent de les battre.

 22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

23 Et lorsqu’ils eurent infligé sur eux beaucoup de coups, ils les jetèrent en prison, chargeant le geôlier de les garder sûrement:

 23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

24 Celui-ci ayant reçu une telle charge, les jeta dans la prison intérieure, et mit fermement leurs pieds dans des entraves.

 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25 ¶ Et à minuit, Paul et Silas priaient, et chantaient des louanges à Dieu: et les prisonniers les entendaient.

 25 ¶ And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

26 Et tout d’un coup il y eut un grand tremblement de terre, de sorte que les fondements de la prison furent ébranlés: et immédiatement toutes les portes furent ouvertes, et les liens de tous furent détachés.

 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

27 Et le gardien de la prison s’étant réveillé de son sommeil, et voyant les portes de la prison ouvertes, tira son épée, et se serait tué, supposant que les prisonniers s’étaient enfuis.

 27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

28 Mais Paul cria d’une voix retentissante, disant: Ne te fais pas de mal: car nous sommes tous ici.

 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

29 Alors il demanda de la lumière, et s’élança dedans, et vint en tremblant, et tomba à terre devant Paul et Silas.

 29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

30 Et il les amena dehors, et dit: Messieurs, que dois-je faire pour être sauvé?

 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31 Et ils dirent: Crois au Seigneur Jésus Christ, et tu seras sauvé, et ta maison.

 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

32 Et ils lui dirent la parole du Seigneur, et à tous ceux qui étaient dans sa maison.

 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

33 Et il les prit à cette heure même de la nuit, et lava leurs plaies; et il fut aussitôt baptisé, lui et tous les siens.

 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

34 Et quand il les amena dans sa maison, il mit de la nourriture devant eux, et se réjouit, croyant en Dieu, avec toute sa maison.

 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

35 Et quand il fit jour, les magistrats envoyèrent les sergents, disant: Relâchez ces hommes.

 35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

36 Et le gardien de la prison rapporta ces propos à Paul,: Les magistrats ont envoyé pour vous faire relâcher: partez donc maintenant, et allez en paix.

 36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.

37 Mais Paul leur dit: Ils nous ont battus publiquement sans condamnation, nous Romains, et ils nous ont jetés en prison; et maintenant ils nous font sortir secrètement? Non en vérité; mais qu’ils viennent eux-mêmes nous chercher.

 37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

38 Et les sergents racontèrent ces paroles aux magistrats: et ils eurent peur, quand ils entendirent qu’ils étaient Romains.

 38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

39 Et ils vinrent et les supplièrent, et les amenèrent dehors, et leur demandèrent de partir de la ville.

 39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

40 Et ils sortirent de la prison, et entrèrent dans la maison de Lydie: et quand ils eurent vu les frères, ils les consolèrent, et partirent.

 40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
