1 Et cinq jours après, Ananias, le grand prêtre descendit avec les anciens, et avec un certain orateur, nommé Tertullus, qui informèrent le gouverneur contre Paul.

 1 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

2 Et lorsqu’il fut appelé, Tertullus commença à l’accuser, disant: Voyant que par toi nous jouissons d’une grande tranquillité, et que des actions très dignes sont faites envers cette nation par ta providence,

 2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

3 Nous l’acceptons toujours et en tous lieux, très excellent Félix, avec toute reconnaissance.

 3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

4 Toutefois, afin que je ne t’ennuie davantage, je te prie que tu veuilles entendre selon ta clémence nos quelques paroles.

 4 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

5 Car nous avons trouvé cet homme, un individu pestilentiel, et un incitateur de sédition parmi tous les Juifs à travers le monde, et un meneur de la secte des Nazaréens:

 5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

6 Qui a aussi tenté de profaner le temple: lequel nous avons saisi, et nous l’aurions jugé selon notre loi.

 6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

7 Mais le capitaine en chef Lysias vint sur nous, et avec grande violence l’arracha de nos mains,

 7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

8 Commandant que ses accusateurs viennent vers toi: tu pourras en l’interrogeant toi-même prendre connaissance de toutes ces choses, dont nous l’accusons.

 8 Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

9 Et les Juifs aussi acquiescèrent, disant que ces choses étaient ainsi.

 9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

10 Alors Paul, après que le gouverneur lui eut fait signe de parler, répondit: Puisque je sais que tu es juge de cette nation depuis de nombreuses années, je réponds pour moi-même avec d’autant plus d’enthousiasme:

 10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

11 Parce que tu peux comprendre qu’il n’y a que douze jours depuis que je suis monté à Jérusalem pour adorer.

 11 Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

12 Et ils ne m’ont trouvé ni dans le temple disputant avec qui que ce soit, ni soulevant le peuple, ni dans les synagogues, ni dans la ville:

 12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

13 Et ils ne peuvent pas non plus prouver les choses dont ils m’accusent maintenant.

 13 Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

14 Mais je te confesse ceci, que suivant le chemin qu’ils appellent hérésie, ainsi j’adore le Dieu de mes pères, croyant toutes les choses qui sont écrites dans la loi et dans les prophètes:

 14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:

15 Et j’ai espérance envers Dieu, laquelle ils admettent aussi eux-mêmes, qu’il y aura une résurrection des morts, tant des justes que des injustes.

 15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

16 Et en ceci je m’exerce, à avoir toujours une conscience vide d’offense envers Dieu, et envers les hommes.

 16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

17 Or après de nombreuses années, je suis venu pour apporter des aumônes à ma nation ainsi que des offrandes.

 17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

18 Sur quoi certains Juifs d’Asie m’ont trouvé purifié dans le temple, ni avec la multitude, ni avec tumulte.

 18 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

19 Qui auraient dû être ici devant toi, et faire objection, s’ils avaient quelque chose contre moi.

 19 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.

20 Ou bien que ceux-ci disent ici, s’ils ont trouvé en moi quelque malfaisance, lorsque je me tenais devant le conseil,

 20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

21 À moins que ce ne soit pour ce seul son, que j’ai crié, me tenant parmi eux: Au sujet de la résurrection des morts que je suis questionné par vous aujourd’hui.

 21 Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

22 Et lorsque Félix entendit ces choses, ayant une plus parfaite connaissance de ce chemin, il les congédia, et dit: Quand le capitaine en chef Lysias sera descendu, je connaîtrai le fin fond de votre affaire.

 22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

23 Et il commanda à un centurion de garder Paul, et de lui laisser quelque liberté, et qu’il n’empêche aucune de ses connaissances de le servir ou de venir vers lui.

 23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

24 Et quelques jours après, lorsque Félix vint avec sa femme Drusille, qui était Juive, il envoya chercher Paul, et l’entendit concernant la foi en Christ.

 24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

25 Et comme il raisonnait sur la droiture, et la tempérance et le jugement à venir, Félix trembla, et répondit: Pour cette fois-ci va; quand j’aurai un moment opportun, je te ferai appeler.

 25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

26 Il espérait aussi que de l’argent lui serait donné par Paul, afin qu’il puisse le relâcher: c’est pourquoi il l’envoyait chercher plus souvent et s’entretenait avec lui.

 26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

27 Mais après deux ans Porcius Festus succéda à Félix: et Félix, voulant faire plaisir aux Juifs laissa Paul lié.

 27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
