1 Puis Agrippa dit à Paul: Tu as la permission de parler pour toi-même. Alors Paul étendit la main, et répondit pour lui-même:

 1 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself:

2 Je me considère heureux, roi Agrippa, parce que je vais répondre pour moi-même aujourd’hui devant toi touchant toutes les choses dont je suis accusé par les Juifs:

 2 I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:

3 Particulièrement parce que je sais que tu es un expert de toutes les coutumes et les questions qui existent parmi les Juifs: c’est pourquoi je t’implore de m’entendre avec patience.

 3 Especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.

4 Ma manière de vivre depuis ma jeunesse, laquelle était d’abord parmi ma propre nation à Jérusalem, tous les Juifs la connaissent;

 4 My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;

5 Lesquels me connaissent depuis le commencement, s’ils veulent attester, que suivant la plus stricte secte de notre religion j’ai vécu comme un Pharisien.

 5 Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

6 Et maintenant je me tiens ici et suis jugé pour l’espérance de la promesse faite par Dieu à nos pères:

 6 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:

7 À laquelle promesse, nos douze tribus servant Dieu instantanément jour et nuit, espèrent parvenir. De laquelle espérance, roi Agrippa, je suis accusé par les Juifs.

 7 Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope’s sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

8 Pourquoi parmi vous penserait-on une chose incroyable, que Dieu ressuscite les morts?

 8 Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?

9 En vérité je pensais en moi-même que je devais faire beaucoup de choses contre le nom de Jésus de Nazareth.

 9 I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

10 Laquelle chose j’ai aussi fait à Jérusalem: et j’ai fait enfermer en prison beaucoup de saints, ayant reçu autorité des principaux prêtres; et lorsqu’ils étaient mis à mort, je donnais ma voix contre eux.

 10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.

11 Et je les punissais souvent dans chaque synagogue, et je les contraignais à blasphémer; et étant extrêmement furieux contre eux, je les persécutais même jusque dans les villes étrangères.

 11 And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.

12 Là-dessus comme j’allais à Damas, avec autorisation et commission des principaux prêtres,

 12 Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,

13 À midi, Ô roi, je vis dans le chemin une lumière du ciel, plus éclatante que le soleil, brillant tout autour de moi et de ceux qui voyageaient avec moi.

 13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.

14 Et lorsque nous étions tous tombés à terre, j’entendis une voix me parlant, et disant dans la langue hébraïque, Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu? Il est dur pour toi de regimber contre les aiguillons.

 14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

15 Et je dis: Qui es-tu, Seigneur? Et il dit: Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes.

 15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.

16 Mais lève-toi, et tiens-toi sur tes pieds: car je te suis apparu dans ce but, pour faire de toi un ministre et un témoin et des choses que tu as vues, et ces choses dans lesquelles je t’apparaîtrai;

 16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

17 Te délivrant du peuple et des Gentils, vers lesquels je t’envoie maintenant,

 17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

18 Pour ouvrir leurs yeux, et de les tourner de l’obscurité à la lumière, et du pouvoir de Satan vers Dieu, afin qu’ils puissent recevoir le pardon des péchés, et un patrimoine parmi ceux qui sont sanctifiés par la foi qui est en moi.

 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

19 Sur quoi, Ô roi Agrippa, je n’ai pas été désobéissant à la vision céleste:

 19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:

20 Mais j’ai montré d’abord à ceux de Damas, et à Jérusalem, et d’un bout à l’autre des côtes de la Judée, et puis aux Gentils, qu’ils devaient se repentir, et se tourner vers Dieu, et faire des œuvres convenant à la repentance.

 20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judæa, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

21 Pour ces raisons les Juifs m’attrapèrent dans le temple, et cherchèrent à me tuer.

 21 For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.

22 Ayant donc obtenu l’aide de Dieu, je continue jusqu’à ce jour, témoignant aussi bien aux petits qu’aux grands, ne disant aucune autre chose que celles que les prophètes et Moïse ont dit devoir arriver:

 22 Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

23 Que Christ devait souffrir, et qu’il devait être le premier qui ressuscite d’entre les morts, et devait manifester la lumière au peuple, et aux Gentils.

 23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.

24 Et comme il parlait ainsi pour lui-même, Festus dit d’une voix retentissante: Paul, tu as perdu la raison; beaucoup d’érudition te rend fou.

 24 And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.

25 Mais il dit: Je ne suis pas fou, très noble Festus; mais je prononce les paroles de vérité et sérieuses.

 25 But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.

26 Car le roi connaît ces choses, devant qui aussi je parle librement: car je suis persuadé qu’aucune de ces choses ne lui est cachée; car cette chose n’a pas été faite dans un coin.

 26 For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.

27 Roi Agrippa, crois-tu les prophètes? Je sais que tu crois.

 27 King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

28 Alors Agrippa dit à Paul: Tu me persuades presque d’être un chrétien.

 28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

29 Et Paul dit: Je voudrais de la part de Dieu, non seulement toi, mais aussi tous ceux qui m’entendent aujourd’hui, que vous soyez presque, et tout à fait tels que je suis, à l’exception de ces liens.

 29 And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

30 Et quand il eut ainsi parlé, le roi se leva, et le gouverneur et Bérénice, et ceux qui étaient assis avec eux:

 30 And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:

31 Et quand ils se furent retirés, ils se parlèrent entre eux, disant: Cet homme n’a rien fait qui soit digne de mort ou de liens.

 31 And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.

32 Alors Agrippa dit à Festus: Cet homme aurait pu être mis en liberté, s’il n’en avait appelé à César.

 32 Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Cæsar.
