1 Ainsi le Seigneur DIEU me montra ceci ; et voici, il formait des sauterelles, au commencement où le regain croissait ; et voici, c’était le regain après le fauchage du roi.

 1 Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.

2 Et il arriva que, quand elles eurent achevé de manger l’herbe de la terre, je dis : Ô Seigneur DIEU pardonne, je te supplie ; par qui Jacob se relèvera-t-il ? Car il est petit.

 2 And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

3 Le SEIGNEUR se repentit de cela. Cela ne se fera pas, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 3 The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.

4 ¶ Ainsi le Seigneur DIEU me montra ceci ; et voici, le Seigneur DIEU appela pour juger par le feu ; et il dévora le grand abîme, et en mangea une partie.

 4 ¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

5 Alors je dis : Ô Seigneur DIEU, cesse, je te supplie ; par qui Jacob se relèvera-t-il ? Car il est petit.

 5 Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

6 Le SEIGNEUR se repentit de cela. Cela non plus ne se fera pas, dit le Seigneur DIEU.

 6 The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.

7 ¶ Puis il me montra ceci voici, le Seigneur se tenait debout sur un mur fait avec un cordeau à plomb, avec un cordeau à plomb dans sa main.

 7 ¶ Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

8 Et Le SEIGNEUR me dit : Que vois-tu, Amos ? Et je dis : Un cordeau à plomb. Alors le Seigneur dit : Voici, je mettrai le cordeau à plomb au milieu de mon peuple d’Israël ; je ne lui en passerai plus.

 8 And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

9 Et les hauts lieux d’Isaac seront ravagés, et les sanctuaires d’Israël seront dévastés, et je me lèverai contre la maison de Jéroboam avec l’épée.

 9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

10 ¶ Alors Amaziah (Amatsia), le prêtre de Bethel, envoya à Jéroboam, roi d’Israël, disant : Amos a conspiré contre toi au milieu de la maison d’Israël ; le pays n’est pas capable de supporter toutes ses paroles.

 10 ¶ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

11 Car ainsi dit : Amos Jéroboam mourra par l’épée, et Israël sera certainement emmené captif hors de son pays.

 11 For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

12 Et Amaziah (Amatsia) dit à Amos : Ô toi voyant, va, enfuis-toi au pays de Judah (Juda), et manges là du pain, et prophétise là.

 12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

13 Mais ne continue plus de prophétiser à Bethel, car c’est la chapelle du roi, et c’est la cour du roi.

 13 But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.

14 ¶ Alors Amos répondit, et dit à Amaziah (Amatsia) : Je n’étais pas prophète, et je n’étais pas non plus fils de prophète ; mais je gardais le bétail, et je recueillais le fruit des sycomores.

 14 ¶ Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

15 Et le SEIGNEUR me prit comme je suivais le troupeau, et le SEIGNEUR m’a dit : Va, prophétise à mon peuple d’Israël.

 15 And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

16 ¶ Maintenant donc entend la parole du SEIGNEUR ; tu dis : Ne prophétise pas contre Israël, et ne fait plus tomber ta parole contre la maison d’Isaac.

 16 ¶ Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

17 C’est pourquoi ainsi dit le Seigneur : Ta femme se prostituera dans la ville, et tes fils et tes filles tomberont par l’épée, et ta terre sera partagée au cordeau ; et tu mourras en une terre souillée, et Israël ira certainement en captivité hors de son pays.

 17 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
