1 Or il arriva, comme David était assis dans sa maison, que David dit à Nathan, le prophète : Voici, je demeure dans une maison de cèdre, mais l’arche de l’alliance du SEIGNEUR est sous des tentures.

 1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.

2 Alors Nathan dit à David : Fais tout ce qui est en ton cœur ; car Dieu est avec toi.

 2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

3 ¶ Et il arriva, cette nuit-là, que la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Nathan, disant :

 3 ¶ And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

4 Va, et dis à David, mon serviteur : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Tu ne me bâtiras pas une maison pour y demeurer.

 4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

5 Car je ne suis pas demeuré dans une maison, depuis le jour que j’ai fait monter Israël hors d’Égypte, jusqu’à ce jour ; mais j’ai été de tente en tente, et d’un tabernacle à l’autre.

5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

6 Partout où j’ai marché avec tout Israël, en ai-je parlé à un seul des juges d’Israël, auxquels j’ai commandé de mener mon peuple, disant : Pourquoi ne m’avez-vous pas bâti une maison de cèdres?

 6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?

7 Et maintenant tu diras ainsi à mon serviteur David : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR des armées : Je t’ai pris du parc à moutons, où tu suivais les moutons pour que tu régisses sur mon peuple Israël.

 7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

8 Et j’ai été avec toi partout où tu as marché, et j’ai retranché tous tes ennemis de devant toi, et je t’ai fait un nom, comme le nom des grands hommes qui sont sur la terre.

 8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

9 Et j’établirai un lieu à mon peuple Israël, et je les planterai, et ils demeureront dans leur place, et ils ne seront plus déplacés ; les enfants de perversité ne les consumeront plus, comme au commencement,

 9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

10 Et depuis le temps où j’instituai des juges pour être sur mon peuple Israël. De plus je subjuguerai tous tes ennemis. En outre je t’annonce que le SEIGNEUR te bâtira une maison.

 10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.

11 ¶ Et il arrivera, quand tes jours seront achevés, et que tu devras aller pour être avec tes père, que je susciterai ta semence après toi, laquelle sera de tes fils, et j’affermirai son royaume.

 11 ¶ And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

12 Il me bâtira une maison, et j’affermirai son trône à toujours.

 12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

13 Je lui serai pour père, et il sera mon fils ; et je ne retirerai pas de lui ma miséricorde, comme je l’ai retirée de celui qui a été avant toi.

 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

14 Mais je l’établirai dans ma maison et dans mon royaume à toujours, et son trône sera affermi à toujours.

 14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

15 Ainsi Nathan parla à David selon toutes ces paroles et selon toute cette vision.

 15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

16 ¶ Et le roi David entra, s’assit devant le SEIGNEUR, et dit : Qui suis-je, ô SEIGNEUR Dieu, et quelle est ma maison, que tu m’aies amené jusqu’ici?

 16 ¶ And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

17 Et cependant cela a été une petite chose à tes yeux, ô Dieu ; car tu as aussi parlé de la maison de ton serviteur pour un très lointain avenir, et tu m’as regardé selon le rang d’un homme haut élevé, ô SEIGNEUR Dieu.

 17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

18 Que pourrait te dire encore David pour l’honneur que tu fais à ton serviteur? Car tu connais ton serviteur.

 18 What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

19 Ô SEIGNEUR, c’est à cause de ton serviteur, et selon ton cœur que tu as fait toute cette grandeur-ci, pour faire connaître toutes ces grandes choses.

 19 O LORD, for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.

20 Ô SEIGNEUR, il n’y en pas de semblable à toi, et il n’y a pas d’autre Dieu que toi, selon tout ce que nous avons entendu de nos oreilles.

 20 O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

21 Et quelle seule nation sur la terre est comme ton peuple Israël, pour laquelle Dieu soit allé racheter pour lui être son peuple, et pour te faire un nom grand et redoutable, en chassant des nations devant ton peuple, lequel tu as racheté d’Égypte?

 21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

22 Car tu as fait de ton peuple Israël ton peuple à toujours ; et toi, SEIGNEUR, tu es devenu leur Dieu.

 22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.

23 C’est pourquoi maintenant, SEIGNEUR, que la parole que tu as prononcée concernant ton serviteur et concernant sa maison soit affermie à toujours, et fais comme tu as dit.

 23 Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

24 Et qu’elle soit affermie, afin que ton nom soit magnifié à toujours, disant : Le SEIGNEUR des armées est le Dieu d’Israël, c’est-à-dire un Dieu pour Israël ; et que la maison de David, ton serviteur, soit affermie devant toi.

 24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

25 Car toi, ô mon Dieu, tu as révélé à ton serviteur que tu lui bâtirais une maison ; c’est pourquoi ton serviteur a trouvé dans son cœur de prier devant toi.

 25 For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.

26 Et maintenant, SEIGNEUR, tu es Dieu, et tu as promis ce bien à ton serviteur.

 26 And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

27 Et maintenant, qu’il te plaise de bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu’elle soit à toujours devant toi ; car tu l’as bénie, ô SEIGNEUR, et elle sera bénie à toujours.

 27 Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever.
