1 Et il arriva après que l’année soit terminée, au temps où les rois sortent pour se battre, que Joab conduisit force de l’armée, et dévasta le pays des enfants d’Ammon et alla assiéger Rabbah. Mais David restait à Jérusalem et Joab frappa Rabbah et la détruisit.

1 And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and destroyed it.

2 Et David prit la couronne de leur roi de dessus sa tête, et la trouva du poids d’un talent d’or ; et il y avait des pierres précieuses dessus ; et elle fut mise sur la tête de David, et il emmena aussi de la ville un extrêmement grand butin.

2 And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David’s head: and he brought also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

3 Et il fit sortir le peuple qiuy était et les scia avec des scies, et avec des herses de fer et des haches. David fit ainsi à toutes les villes des enfants d’Ammon. Et David et tout le peuple retournèrent à Jérusalem.

3 And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

4 ¶ Et il arriva après cela, qu’une guerre s’éleva à Gezer (Guézer) avec les Philistins ; au cours de laquelle Sibbechai, le Hushathite, tua Sippai, qui était un des enfants du géant ; et ils furent assujettis.

4 ¶ And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.

5 Il y eut encore guerre avec les Philistins ; et Elhanan, le fils de Jair, tua Lahmi, le frère de Goliath, le Gitthite, dont le bois de sa lance était comme une ensouple de tisserand.

5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam.

6 Et il y eut encore une autre guerre, à Gath, où se trouva un homme de haute stature, qui avait six doigts à chaque main et six à chaque pied, vingt-quatre en tout, et il était aussi le fils du géant.

6 And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot: and he also was the son of the giant.

7 Mais lorsqu’il défia Israël, Jonathan, le fils de Shimeah, frère de David, le tua.
|
7 But when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother slew him.
|
8 Ceux-là étaient nés au géant à Gath ; et ils tombèrent par la main de David, et de la main de ses serviteurs.
|
8 These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
