1 Et Salomon détermina de bâtir une maison pour le nom du SEIGNEUR, et une maison pour son royaume.

 1 And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.

2 Et Salomon compta soixante-dix mille hommes pour porter les fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille pour tailler les pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents préposés sur eux.

 2 And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.

3 ¶ Et Salomon envoya vers Hiram, roi de Tyre (Tyr), disant : Comme tu as agi avec David, mon père, à qui tu as envoyé des cèdres, pour se bâtir une maison afin d’y demeurer, agis de même avec moi.

 3 ¶ And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him an house to dwell therein, even so deal with me.

4 Voici, je vais bâtir une maison au nom du SEIGNEUR mon Dieu, pour la lui dédier, et pour brûler devant lui l’encens odoriférant, et pour le pain de proposition continuel, et pour les offrandes consumées du matin et du soir, des shabbats, et des nouvelles lunes, et des fêtes solennelles du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu. Ceci est une ordonnance pour Israël pour toujours.

 4 Behold, I build an house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.

5 Et la maison que je vais bâtir sera grande ; car grand est notre Dieu au-dessus de tous les dieux.

 5 And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.

6 Mais qui est capable de lui bâtir une maison, puisque le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne peuvent le contenir ? Qui suis-je donc, que je lui bâtisse une maison, mais seulement pour brûler des sacrifices devant lui ?

 6 But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?

7 Maintenant envoie-moi un homme habile à travailler l’or, et l’argent, le cuivre et le fer, et en pourpre, en cramoisi et en bleu, et qui puisse graver, avec les hommes habiles qui sont avec moi en Judah (Juda) et à Jérusalem, lesquels David, mon père, a pourvus.

 7 Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.

8 Envoie-moi aussi du Liban du bois de cèdre, de sapin et d’algummim ; car je sais que tes serviteurs savent couper le bois du Liban ; et voici, mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs.

 8 Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon: for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,

9 C’est-à-dire pour me préparer du bois en abondance ; car la maison que je vais bâtir sera merveilleusement grande.

 9 Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great.

10 Et voici, je donnerai à tes serviteurs les fendeurs, qui abattront le bois, vingt mille mesures de blé battu, et vingt mille mesures d’orge, et vingt mille baths de vin, et vingt mille baths d’huile.

 10 And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

11 ¶ Et Hiram, roi de Tyre (Tyr), répondit par écrit qu’il envoya à Salomon : C’est parce que le SEIGNEUR a aimé son peuple qu’il t’a fait roi sur eux.

 11 ¶ Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.

12 Hiram dit en plus : Béni soit le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, qui a fait le ciel et la terre, et qui a donné au roi David un fils sage, doué de prudence et d’intelligence, afin qu’il puisse bâtir une maison pour le SEIGNEUR, et une maison pour son royaume.

 12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.

13 Et maintenant je t’envoie un homme habile, doué d’intelligence, qui est allé à Hiram, mon père,

 13 And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s,

14 Le fils d’une femme d’entre les filles de Dan, et son père était un homme de Tyre (Tyr), adroit pour travailler l’or, et l’argent, et le cuivre et le fer, et la pierre et le bois, la pourpre, le bleu, et le fin lin et le cramoisi ; et sachant graver toutes sortes de gravures et imaginer toute invention qu’on lui proposera, avec tes hommes habiles et avec les hommes habiles de mon seigneur David, ton père.

 14 The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father.

15 Maintenant donc, que mon seigneur envoie à ses serviteurs le blé, l’orge, l’huile et le vin qu’il a dit.

 15 Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:

16 Et nous couperons du bois du Liban autant que tu en auras besoin, et nous te l’amènerons en radeaux, par mer, jusqu’à Joppa, et tu le feras monter à Jérusalem.

 16 And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.

17 ¶ Et Salomon compta tous les étrangers qui étaient dans le pays d’Israël, selon le nombre que David, son père en avait fait ; et on en trouva cent cinquante-trois mille six cents.

 17 ¶ And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.

18 Et il en désigna soixante et dix mille pour être porteurs des fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille pour être tailleurs de pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents surveillants pour faire travailler le peuple.

 18 And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
