1 Et quand Rehoboam arriva à Jérusalem, il assembla de la maison de Judah (Juda) et de Benjamin, cent quatre-vingt mille hommes choisis, qui étaient des guerriers, pour combattre contre Israël, afin qu’il puisse amener de nouveau le royaume à Rehoboam.

 1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

2 Mais la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à Shemaiah, l’homme de Dieu, disant :

 2 But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 Parle à Rehoboam, le fils de Salomon, roi de Judah (Juda), et à tout Israël en Judah (Juda) et en Benjamin, disant :

 3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Vous ne monterez pas, et vous ne combattrez pas contre vos frères ; retournez, chaque homme dans sa maison ; car cette chose vient de moi. Et ils obéirent aux paroles du SEIGNEUR, et s’en retournèrent sans aller contre Jeroboam.

 4 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

5 ¶ Et Rehoboam demeura à Jérusalem, et il bâtit des villes pour forteresses en Judah (Juda).

 5 ¶ And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

6 Il bâtit Bethlehem, et Etam, etTekoa,

 6 He built even Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

7 Et Bethzur, Shoco, et Adullam,

 7 And Bethzur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

8 Et Gath, et Mareshah, et Ziph,

 8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 Et Adoraim, et Lachish, et Azeka,

 9 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10 Et Zorah, et Aijalon et Hebron, qui sont en Judah (Juda) et en Benjamin, des villes fortifiées.

 10 And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

11 Et il fortifia les places fortes, et y mit des capitaines et des provisions de vivres, et d’huile et de vin,

 11 And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

12 Et dans chaque ville il mit des boucliers et des lances, et il les rendit extrêmement fortes, ayant Judah (Juda) et Benjamin à son côté.

 12 And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

13 ¶ Et les prêtres et les Lévites, qui étaient dans tout Israël, se rangèrent avec lui de tous leurs confins.

 13 ¶ And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

14 Car les Lévites abandonnèrent leurs banlieues et leurs possessions et vinrent en Judah (Juda) et à Jérusalem, parce que Jeroboam et ses fils, les avaient rejetés de la fonction de prêtres au SEIGNEUR,

 14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the LORD:

15 Et il s’était ordonné des prêtres pour les hauts lieux et les diables, et pour les veaux qu’il avait faits.

 15 And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

16 Et après eux, de toutes les tribus d’Israël, ceux qui avaient à cœur de chercher le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, vinrent à Jérusalem pour sacrifier au SEIGNEUR Dieu de leurs pères.

 16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

17 Et ils fortifièrent le royaume de Judah (Juda) et affermirent Rehoboam, le fils de Salomon, pendant trois ans ; car ils marchèrent dans le chemin de David et de Salomon pendant trois ans.

 17 So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

18 ¶ Et Rehoboam prit pour femme Mahalath, la fille de Jerimoth, fils de David, et d’Abihail, fille d’Eliab, le fils de Jesse.

 18 ¶ And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

19 Elle lui enfanta des enfants : Jeush, et Shamariah et Zaham.

 19 Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

20 Et après elle, il prit Maahcah, la fille d’Absalom, qui lui enfanta Abijah, et Atthai, et Ziza et Shelomith.

 20 And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 Et Rehoboam aima Maachah, la fille d’Absalom, plus que toutes ses femmes et ses concubines ; (car il prit dix-huit femmes et soixante concubines, et il engendra vingt-huit fils et soixante filles).

 21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)

22 Rehoboam établit pour chef Abijah, fils de Maachah, comme prince entre ses frères ; car il voulait le faire roi ;

 22 And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

23 Et il agit prudemment et dispersa tous ses enfants dans toutes les contrées de Judah (Juda) et de Benjamin, dans toutes les villes fortifiées ; et il leur donna des vivres en abondance. Et il désira de nombreuses femmes.

 23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
