1 Or en la dix-huitième année du roi Jeroboam, Abijah commença à régner sur Judah (Juda).
|
1 Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.
|
2 Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Michaiah, la fille d’Uriel, de Gibeah. Et il y eut guerre entre Abijah et Jeroboam.
|
2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
|
3 Et Abijah se déploya en ordre de bataille avec une armée de vaillants hommes de guerre, c’est-à-dire quatre cent mille hommes d’élite ; Jeroboam aussi se déploya en ordre de bataille contre lui avec huit cent mille hommes choisis, hommes puissants et vaillants.
|
3 And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.

4 ¶ Et Abijah se tint sur le mont Zemaraim, qui est au mont Ephraim, dit : Jeroboam et tout Israël, entendez-moi.
|
4 ¶ And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;
|
5 Ne devez-vous pas savoir que le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël a donné pour toujours à David, le royaume sur Israël, à lui et à ses fils, par une alliance de sel ?
|
5 Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
|
6 Cependant Jeroboam, le fils de Nebat, le serviteur de Salomon, fils de David, s’est levé, et s’est rebellé contre son seigneur ;
|
6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
|
7 Et des hommes vaniteux, des enfants de Belial se sont assemblés avec lui et se sont fortifiés contre Rehoboam, le fils de Salomon, quand Rehoboam était jeune et de cœur sensible, et il ne put leur résister.
|
7 And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.
|
8 Et maintenant, vous pensez résister contre le royaume du SEIGNEUR, qui est en la main des fils de David ; et que vous êtes une grande multitude, et vous avez avec vous les veaux d’or que Jeroboam vous a faits pour être vos dieux.
|
8 And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.
|
9 N’avez-vous pas chassé les prêtres du SEIGNEUR, les fils d’Aaron, et les Lévites, et ne vous êtes-vous pas fait des prêtres à la façon des nations des autres pays ? Afin que quiconque vient avec un jeune taureau et sept béliers pour se consacrer lui-même, peut être prêtre de ceux qui ne sont pas des dieux.

9 Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
|
10 Mais quant à nous, le SEIGNEUR est notre Dieu, et nous ne l’avons pas abandonné ; et les prêtres qui servent le SEIGNEUR, sont les fils d’Aaron, et les Lévites sont à leurs fonctions.
|
10 But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
|
11 Et ils brûlent au SEIGNEUR, chaque matin et chaque soir, les offrandes consumées et l’encens odoriférant ; ils mirent aussi les pains de proposition sur la table pure, ainsi que le chandelier d’or, avec ses lampes, pour brûler chaque soir : car nous observons la charge du SEIGNEUR notre Dieu ; mais vous, vous l’avez abandonné.

11 And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken him.
|
12 Et voici, Dieu lui-même est avec nous, pour être notre capitaine et ses prêtres avec les trompettes retentissantes, pour sonner l’alarme contre vous. Ô enfants d’Israël, ne combattez pas contre le SEIGNEUR Dieu de vos pères ; car vous ne réussirez pas.

12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
|
13 ¶ Mais Jeroboam disposa une embuscade, pour arriver derrière eux ; de sorte qu’ils étaient devant Judah (Juda), et l’embuscade était derrière eux.
|
13 ¶ But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.
|
14 Et quand Judah (Juda) se retourna, voici, la bataille était devant et derrière ; et ils crièrent au SEIGNEUR, et les prêtres sonnèrent des trompettes.
|
14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
|
15 Alors les hommes de Judah (Juda) s’écrièrent, et il arriva, comme les hommes de Judah (Juda) s’écriaient, que Dieu frappa Jeroboam et tout Israël devant Abijah et Judah (Juda).
|
15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
|
16 Et les enfants d’Israël s’enfuirent devant Judah (Juda), et Dieu les livra entre leur main.
|
16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
|
17 Et Abijah et son peuple les tuèrent en un grand carnage, tellement que tombèrent morts cinq cent mille hommes choisis d’Israël.
|
17 And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
|
18 Ainsi les enfants d’Israël furent humiliés en ce temps-là ; et les enfants de Judah (Juda) prévalurent, parce qu’ils s’appuyaient sur le SEIGNEUR Dieu de leurs pères.
|
18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
|
19 Et Abijah poursuivit Jeroboam, et lui prit des villes : Bethel et les villes de son ressort, et Jeshanah et les villes de son ressort, et Ephraim et les villes de son ressort.
|
19 And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.
|
20 Et Jeroboam ne regagna plus de force durant les jours d’Abijah ; et le SEIGNEUR le frappa, et il mourut.
|
20 Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.
|
21 ¶ Mais Abijah devint puissant, et épousa quatorze femmes, et engendra vingt-deux fils et seize filles.
|
21 ¶ But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
|
22 Et le reste des actions d’Abijah, et ses chemins, et ses propos sont écrits dans l’histoire du prophète Iddo.
|
22 And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
