1 Après ces choses et après leur établissement, Sennacherib, roi d’Assyrie ; vint et entra en Judah (Juda), et campa contre les villes fortifiées, et pensait s’en emparer.

 1 After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.

2 Et quand Hezekiah, vit que Sennacherib était venu, et qu’il projetait de se battre contre Jérusalem,

 2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

3 Il tint conseil avec ses princes et ses hommes puissants pour arrêter les eaux des sources qui étaient hors de la ville, et ils l’aidèrent.

 3 He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.

4 Ainsi un peuple nombreux s’assembla, ils bouchèrent toutes les sources et le cours d’eau qui coule au milieu du pays, disant : Pourquoi les rois d’Assyrie viendraient-ils trouver des eaux en abondance ?

 4 So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

5 Il s’affermit aussi et bâtit toute la muraille qui était détruite, et l’éleva jusqu’aux tours ; et il bâtit une autre muraille au extérieur ; et répara Millo, dans la cité de David, et il fit faire une abondance de flèches et d’écus.

 5 Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

6 Et il établit des capitaines de guerre sur le peuple, les rassembla vers lui dans la rue de la porte de la ville, et leur parla avec aisance, disant :

 6 And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,

7 Soyez forts et courageux, n’ayez pas peur et ne soyez pas effrayés devant le roi d‘Assyrie et devant toute la multitude qui est avec lui ; car avec nous il y a plus qu’avec lui.

 7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

8 Avec lui est un bras de chair, mais avec nous est le SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, pour nous aider et pour combattre nos batailles. Et le peuple se rassura sur les paroles d’Hezekiah, roi de Judah (Juda).

 8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

9 ¶ Après cela, Sennacherib, roi d’Assyrie, (mais lui-même faisait le siège devant Lachish, avec lui toutes ses forces avec lui), envoya ses serviteurs à Jérusalem vers Hezekiah, roi de Judah (Juda), et vers tous ceux de Judah (Juda) qui étaient à Jérusalem, disant :

 9 ¶ After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

10 Ainsi dit Sennacherib, roi d’Assyrie : En quoi vous confiez-vous, que vous demeuriez à assiégés dans Jérusalem ?

 10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?

11 Hezekiah ne vous induit-il pas à vous laisser mourir par la famine et par la soif, en vous disant : Le SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, nous délivrera de la main du roi d’Assyrie ?

 11 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

12 N’est-ce pas le même, Hezekiah, qui a ôté ses hauts lieux et ses autels, et qui a commandé à Judah (Juda) et à Jérusalem, disant : Vous adorerez devant un autel, et vous brûlerez de l’encens dessus ?

 12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

13 Ne savez-vous pas ce que j’ai fait, moi et mes pères, à tous les peuples des autres pays ? Les dieux des nations de ces pays ont-ils pu délivrer leur pays de ma main ?

 13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?

14 Lequel était la parmi tous les dieux de ces nations, que mes pères ont entièrement détruites, qui a pu délivrer son peuple de ma main, pour que votre Dieu puisse vous délivrer de ma main ?

 14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?

15 Maintenant donc qu’Hezekiah ne vous trompe pas, et ni ne vous induise pas de cette manière, et ne le croyez pas non plus ; car aucun dieu d’aucune nation ni d’aucun royaume n’a pu délivrer son peuple de ma main, ni de la main de mes pères ; combien moins votre Dieu vous délivrerait-il de ma main ?

 15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

16 Et ses serviteurs parlèrent encore contre le SEIGNEUR Dieu, et contre Hezekiah, son serviteur.

 16 And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

17 Il écrivit aussi des lettres pour injurier le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, et pour parler contre lui, disant : Comme les dieux des nations des autres pays n’ont pas délivré leur peuple de ma main, ainsi le Dieu d’Hezekiah ne délivrera pas son peuple de ma main.

 17 He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

18 Alors ils crièrent à haute voix dans le langage des Juifs, au peuple de Jérusalem qui était sur la muraille, pour les effrayer et les tourmenter, afin qu’ils puissent prendre la ville.

 18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

19 Et ils parlèrent contre le Dieu de Jérusalem comme contre les dieux des peuples de la terre, lesquels étaient l’ouvrage de mains d’hommes.

 19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

20 C’est pourquoi le roi Hezekiah, et Ésaïe, le prophète, le fils d’Amoz, prièrent à ce sujet et crièrent vers le ciel.

 20 And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.

21 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR envoya un ange, qui extermina tous les puissants et vaillants hommes, ainsi que les conducteurs et les capitaines dans le camp du roi d’Assyrie. En sorte qu’il s’en retourna la honte au visage dans son pays. Et, comme il entrait dans la maison de son dieu, ceux qui étaient sortis de ces entrailles, le tuèrent là par l’épée.

 21 ¶ And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

22 Ainsi le SEIGNEUR sauva Hezekiah et les habitants de Jérusalem de la main de Sennacherib, roi d’Assyrie, et de la main de tous les autres, et il les conduisit tout au entour.

 22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.

23 Et beaucoup apportèrent des offrandes au SEIGNEUR, à Jérusalem, et des présents à Hezekiah, roi de Judah (Juda), de sorte qu’après cela il fut élevé aux yeux de toutes les nations.

 23 And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

24 ¶ En ces jours-là, Hezekiah fut malade à la mort, et pria le SEIGNEUR, et il lui parla et lui donna un signe.

 24 ¶ In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.

25 Mais Hezekiah ne fut pas reconnaissant du bienfait qui lui avait été fait, car son cœur s’éleva, c’est pourquoi il y eut la colère contre lui, et contre Judah (Juda) et Jérusalem.

 25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

26 Mais Hezekiah s’humilia de l’orgueil de son cœur, ainsi que lui et les habitants de Jérusalem, c’est pourquoi la colère du SEIGNEUR ne vint pas sur eux pendant lles jours d’Hezekiah.

 26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

27 ¶ Et Hezekiah avait d’extrêmement grandes richesses et d’honneurs, et il se fit des trésors d’argent, d’or, de pierres précieuses, d’épices, et des écus, et de toutes sortes de joyaux exquis ;

 27 ¶ And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;

28 Des magasins pour les produits en grains, en vin, et en huile, des étables pour toutes sortes de bétails de bétail, et des abris pour les troupeaux.

 28 Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.

29 De plus il se procura des villes, et il eut en abondance des troupeaux de gros et de menu bétail ; car Dieu lui avait donné de grands biens.

 29 Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.

30 Ce même Hezekiah arrêta l’issue supérieure des eaux de Gihon, et les conduisit droit en bas, vers l’Ouest de la ville de David. Ainsi Hezekiah prospéra dans tous ses travaux.

 30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

31 ¶ Toutefois dans l’affaire des, ambassadeurs de Babylone, qui envoyèrent vers lui pour s’enquérir du prodige qui avait été fait dans le pays, Dieu l’abandonna pour l’éprouver, afin qu’il puisse connaître tout ce qui était dans son cœur.

 31 ¶ Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

32 ¶ Or le reste des actions d’Hezekiah, et de sa bonté, voici, elles sont écrites dans la vision d’Ésaïe, le prophète, fils d’Amoz, dans le livre des rois de Judah (Juda) et d’Israël.

 32 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33 Et Hezekiah s’endormit avec ses pères, et on l’enterra dans un des plus importants des sépulcres des fils de David ; et tout Judah (Juda) et les habitants de Jérusalem lui rendirent honneur à sa mort ; et Manasseh, son fils, régna à sa place.

 33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
