1 De plus, frères, nous voulons vous faire connaître la grâce de Dieu concédée aux églises de Macédoine;

 1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;

2 Comment dans une grande épreuve d’affliction, l’abondance de leur joie et leur profonde pauvreté abonda dans la richesse de leur libéralité.

 2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

3 Car de leur pouvoir, je porte témoignage, oui, et au-delà de leur pouvoir ils l’ont fait volontairement;

 3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;

4 Nous priant avec beaucoup d’insistance pour que nous recevions le don, et prenions sur nous la participation du ministère envers les saints.

 4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

5 Et ils ont fait cela, non pas comme nous l’avions espéré, mais ils se sont d’abord donnés eux-mêmes au Seigneur, et à nous par la volonté de Dieu.

 5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

6 À tel point que nous avons désiré de Tite, comme il avait commencé, qu’ainsi il puisse aussi achever en vous cette même grâce.

 6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

7 Par conséquent, comme vous abondez en toutes choses, en foi, et en élocution, et en connaissance, et en toute assiduité, et dans votre amour envers nous, voyez à ce que vous abondiez dans cette grâce aussi.

 7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

8 Je ne parle pas par commandement, mais à l’occasion de l’empressement des autres, et pour prouver la sincérité de votre amour.

 8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

9 Car vous connaissez la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, qui, bien qu’il fût riche, cependant pour vous il devint pauvre, afin que vous par l'intermédiaire de sa pauvreté puissiez être riches.

 9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

10 Et en cela je donne mon avis: car cela est opportun pour vous, qui avez déjà commencé, non seulement à faire, mais aussi à aller de l’avant dès l’année dernière.

 10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

11 Maintenant donc exécutez-le, comme il y avait une promptitude de vouloir, qu’ainsi il puisse y avoir aussi une exécution selon ce que vous avez.

 11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

12 Car s’il y a d’abord une volonté, cela est accepté selon ce qu’un homme a, et non pas selon ce qu’il n’a pas.

 12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

13 Car je ne veux pas dire que d’autres hommes soient à l’aise et vous chargés:

 13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

14 Mais en vue d’égalité, que maintenant, à présent votre abondance puisse être un supplément à leur besoin, afin que leur abondance aussi puisse être un supplément à votre besoin: pour qu’il puisse y avoir égalité:

 14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

15 Comme il est écrit, Celui qui avait recueilli beaucoup n’avait pas trop; et celui qui avait recueilli peu, ne manquait de rien.

 15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

16 Mais que les remerciements soient à Dieu lequel a mis le même soin ardent pour vous dans le cœur de Tite.

 16 But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

17 Car en effet il accepta l’exhortation; mais étant encore plus empressé, de lui-même il est allé vers vous.

 17 For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.

18 Et nous avons envoyé avec lui le frère dont la louange de l’évangile est connue à travers toutes les églises;

 18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;

19 Et non seulement cela, mais il a été aussi choisi, par les églises pour voyager avec nous avec cette grâce, laquelle est administrée par nous à la gloire de ce même Seigneur, et en déclaration de votre prompte intention

 19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

20 Évitant ceci, qu’aucun homme ne puisse nous blâmer dans cette abon-dance laquelle est administrée par nous:

 20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:

21 Procurant les choses honnêtes, non seulement à la vue du Seigneur, mais aussi à la vue des hommes.

 21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

22 Et nous avons envoyé avec eux notre frère, dont nous avons souvent éprouvé l’assiduité en beaucoup de choses, mais maintenant beaucoup plus assidu par la grande confiance que j’ai en vous.

 22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.

23 Si quelqu’un s’enquiert de Tite, il est mon partenaire et aide auprès de vous: ou si l’on s’enquiert au sujet de nos frères, ils sont les messagers des églises, et la gloire de Christ.

 23 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

24 C’est pourquoi déclarez-leur, et devant les églises, la preuve de votre amour, et de notre vantardise à votre sujet.

 24 Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.
