1 Et en la seconde année du règne de Nebuchadnezzar, (Nebucadnetsar) eut des rêves ; et son esprit fut troublé, et son sommeil l’abandonna.

 1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him.

2 Et le roi ordonna d’appeler les magiciens, les astrologues, les sorciers et les Chaldéens, pour lui montrer ses rêves. Et ils vinrent et se présentèrent devant le roi.

 2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

3 Et le roi leur dit : J’ai rêvé un rêve, et mon esprit fut troublé pour connaître ce rêve.

 3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.

4 Et les Chaldéens dirent au roi en langue syriaque : Ô roi, vis pour toujours ; dis le rêve à tes serviteurs, et nous en montrerons l’interprétation.

 4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

5 Le roi répondit, et dit aux Chaldéens : La chose m’a échappé ; si vous ne me faites connaître le rêve et son interprétation, vous serez mis en pièces, et vos maisons réduites en tas de fumier.

 5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

6 Mais si vous me montrez le rêve et son interprétation, vous recevrez de moi des dons, des récompenses et de grands honneurs ; montrez-moi donc le rêve et son interprétation.

 6 But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.

7 Ils répondirent : de nouveau et dirent : Que le roi dise le rêve à ses serviteurs, et nous en montrerons l’interprétation.

 7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.

8 Le roi répondit, et dit : Je sais avec certitude maintenant que vous cherchez à gagner du temps, parce que vous voyez que la chose m’a échappé.

 8 The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.

9 Mais si vous ne me faites pas connaître le rêve, il y a un seul décret contre vous ; car vous avez préparé quelque parole mensongère et perverse à dire devant moi, en attendant que le temps soit changé. C’est pourquoi dites-moi le rêve, et je saurai que vous pouvez m’en montrer l’interprétation.

 9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.

10 ¶ Les Chaldéens répondirent au roi et dirent. Il n’y a aucun homme sur la terre qui puisse montrer ce que demande le roi ; c’est pourquoi il n’y a ni roi, ni seigneur, ni gouverneur, qui n’ait jamais demandé une telle chose à aucun magicien, astrologue ou Chaldéen.

 10 ¶ The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

11 Car c’est une chose rare que le roi demande, et il n’y a personne qui puisse le montrer au roi, excepté les dieux, dont la demeure n’est pas avec la chair.

 11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

12 À cause de cela, le roi se mit en colère et devint très furieux, et il commanda de mettre à mort tous les hommes sages de Babylone.

 12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

13 Et le décret fut publié que les hommes sages allaient être tués ; et on cherchait Daniel et ses compagnons afin qu’ils soient tués.

 13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.

14 ¶ Alors Daniel répondit avec prudence et sagesse à Arioch (Arioc), le capitaine des gardes du roi, qui était sorti pour tuer les hommes sages de Babylone.

 14 ¶ Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:

15 Il répondit et dit à Arioch (Arioc), le capitaine du roi : Pourquoi ce décret est-il si urgent de la part du roi ? Alors Arioch (Arioc) fit connaître la chose à Daniel.

 15 He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

16 Et Daniel entra et pria le roi qu’il lui donne du temps et qu’il déclarerait l’interprétation au roi.

 16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.

17 Alors Daniel alla dans sa maison et fit connaître la chose à Hananiah (Hanania), Mishael (Mishaël) et Azariah (Azaria), ses compagnons,

 17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:

18 Afin qu’ils demandent miséricorde au Dieu du ciel concernant ce secret, afin que Daniel et ses compagnons ne périssent pas avec le reste des hommes sages de Babylone.

 18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19 ¶ Alors le secret fut révélé à Daniel en vision de nuit. Et Daniel bénit le Dieu du ciel.

 19 ¶ Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20 Daniel répondit, et dit : Béni soit le nom de Dieu pour toujours et toujours ; car à lui sont sagesse et puissance.

 20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

21 Et c’est lui qui change les temps et les moments ; il dépose les rois et établit les rois ; il donne la sagesse aux sages, et la connaissance à ceux qui connaissent l’intelligence.

 21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

22 Il révèle les choses profondes et cachées ; il connaît ce qui est dans les ténèbres, et la lumière demeure avec lui.

 22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.

23 Je te remercie et je te loue, Ô toi Dieu de mes pères, qui m’as donné sagesse et puissance, et tu m’as fait connaître maintenant ce que nous t’avons demandé ; car tu nous as fait connaître l’affaire du roi.

 23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king’s matter.

24 ¶ C’est pourquoi Daniel alla vers Arioch (Arioc), à qui le roi avait ordonné de faire mettre à mort les hommes sages de Babylone ; il alla et lui parla ainsi ; Ne fais pas mettre à mort les hommes sages de Babylone. Amène-moi devant le roi, et je montrerai au roi l’interprétation.

 24 ¶ Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.

25 Alors Arioch (Arioc) fit hâtivement entrer Daniel devant le roi, et lui parla ainsi J’ai trouvé parmi les captifs de Judah (Juda) un homme qui fera connaître au roi l’interprétation.

 25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.

26 Le roi répondit et dit à Daniel, dont le nom était Belteshazzar (Beltshatsar) : Es-tu capable de me faire connaître le rêve que j’ai vu et son interprétation ?

 26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?

27 Daniel répondit en présence du roi et dit : Le secret que le roi a demandé, ni les sages, ni les astrologues, ni les magiciens, ni les devins ne peuvent le montrer au roi.

 27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;

28 Mais il y a un Dieu dans le ciel qui révèle les secrets, et il fait connaître au roi Nebuchadnezzar (Nebucadnetsar) ce qui arrivera dans les derniers jours. Ton rêve et les visions de ta tête, sur ton lit, sont ceux-ci :

 28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;

29 Quant à toi, ô roi tes pensées te sont montées à ton cerveau étant sur ton lit, ce qui doit arriver dorénavant ; et celui qui révèle les secrets t’a fait connaître ce qui arrivera.

 29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.

30 Mais quant à moi, ce secret ne m’est pas révélé par quelque sagesse que j’aurais plus qu’en aucun des vivants, mais à cause d’eux pour que l’interprétation soit connue du roi, et que tu puisses connaître les pensées de ton cœur.

 30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.

31 ¶Toi, ô roi, tu voyais, et tu contemplais une grande statue. Cette grande statue dont l’éclat était excellent était debout devant toi, et son aspect était terrible.

 31 ¶ Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.

32 La tête de la statue était d’or fin ; sa poitrine et ses bras, d’argent ; son ventre et ses hanches d’airain,

 32 This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,

33 Ses jambes, de fer ; et ses pieds, en partie de fer et en partie d’argile.

 33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.

34 Tu voyais, jusqu’à ce qu’une pierre soit taillée sans mains, laquelle frappa la statue sur ses pieds qui étaient de fer et d’argile, et les brisa en morceaux.

 34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.

35 Alors le fer, l’argile, l’airain, l’argent et l’or furent ensemble brisés en morceaux, et devinrent comme la paille dans l’aire en été ; et le vent les emporta, et on en trouva plus la place ; et la pierre qui avait frappé la statue devint une grande montagne et remplit la terre entière.

 35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

36 ¶ C’est là le rêve ; et nous en dirons l’interprétation devant le roi.

 36 ¶ This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.

37 Toi, ô roi, tu es un roi des rois, parce que le Dieu du ciel t’a donné un royaume, puissance, force et gloire ;

 37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

38 Et qu’en quelque lieu où demeurent les enfants des hommes, les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux du ciel, il les a donnés en ta main, et t’a fait dominer sur eux tous. Tu es la tête d’or.

 38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

39 Et après toi il s’élèvera un autre royaume, inférieur à toi ; puis un troisième royaume, d’airain, qui dominera sur toute la terre.

 39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

40 Et le quatrième royaume sera fort comme fer ; d’autant que le fer brise en pièces et assujettit toutes choses, et que le fer brise tout, il brisera en pièces et écrasera tout.

 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

41 Et comme tu as vu les pieds et les orteils en partie d’argile de potier et en partie de fer, le royaume sera divisé ; mais il y aura en lui de la puissance du fer, d’autant que tu as vu le fer mêlé avec l’argile bourbeuse ;

 41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

42 Et comme les orteils des pieds étaient en partie de fer et en partie d’argile, ainsi le royaume sera en partie fort et en partie brisé.

 42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

43 Et comme tu as vu le fer mêlé avec l’argile bourbeuse, ils se mélangeront par la semence des hommes ; mais ils ne se joindront pas l’un à l’autre, de même que le fer ne se mêle pas avec l’argile.

 43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

44 Et dans les jours de ces rois, le Dieu du ciel établira un royaume qui ne sera jamais détruit ; et ce royaume ne sera pas laissé à un autre peuple, mais il brisera en pièces et consumera tous ces royaumes, et il subsistera pour toujours.

 44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

45 D’autant que tu as vu, que de la montagne, la pierre a été taillée sans mains, et qu’elle a brisé en pièces, le fer, l’airain, l’argent et l’or. Le grand Dieu a fait connaître au roi ce qui arrivera dorénavant ; et le rêve est certain, et l’interprétation en est sûre.

 45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

46 ¶ Alors le roi Nebuchadnezzar (Nebucadnetsar) tomba sur sa face et adora Daniel, et commanda qu’on lui offre une oblation et des offrandes de senteurs suaves.

 46 ¶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

47 Le roi répondit à Daniel et dit : De vérité, votre Dieu est un Dieu des dieux et le Seigneur des rois, et un révélateur de secrets, puisque tu as pu révéler ce secret.

 47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

48 Alors le roi fit de Daniel un grand homme, et lui donna beaucoup de grands présents, et l’établit gouverneur sur toute la province de Babylone et chef des gouverneurs de tous les hommes sages de Babylone.

 48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 Puis Daniel fit une requête au roi, et il, le roi, établit Shadrach (Shadrac), Meshach (Méshac) et Abednego (Abed-Nego) sur les affaires de la province de Babylone ; mais Daniel se tenait à la porte du roi.

 49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
