1 En la troisième année de Cyrus, roi de Perse, une chose fut révélée à Daniel, qui était appelé Belteshazzar (Beltshatsar) ; et la chose était vraie, mais le temps déterminé était long ; et il comprit la chose, et il eut la compréhension de la vision.

 1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

2 En ces jours-là, moi Daniel, je menai deuil trois semaines entières.

 2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

3 Je ne mangeai pas de pain agréable, aucune viande, ni vin n’entrèrent dans ma bouche et je ne m’oignis pas du tout, jusqu’à ce que les trois semaines soient accomplies.

 3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

4 Et le vingt-quatrième jour du premier mois, comme j’étais le long du grand fleuve qui est l’Hiddekel.

 4 And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;

5 Et je levai mes yeux et je regardai ; et voici, un certain homme vêtu de lin, dont les reins étaient ceints d’or fin d’Uphaz.

 5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:

6 Son corps était comme du béryl, et son visage comme la ressemblance d’un éclair, et ses yeux comme des lampes de feu, et ses bras et ses pieds de la même couleur que du cuivre poli, et la voix de ses paroles était comme la voix d’une multitude.

 6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.

7 Et moi, Daniel, je vis seul la vision, car les hommes qui étaient avec moi ne virent pas la vision ; mais un grand tremblement tomba sur eux, si bien qu’ils s’enfuirent pour se cacher.

 7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.

8 C’est pourquoi je restai seul, et je vis cette grande vision, et il ne resta aucune vigueur en moi ; aussi mon aspect se changea en corruption et je ne conservai aucune vigueur.

 8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.

9 Toutefois j’entendis la voix de ses paroles, et quand j’ai entendu la voix de ses paroles, alors je tombai dans un profond sommeil sur mon visage, et mon visage contre terre.

 9 Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.

10 ¶ Et voici, une main me toucha, et me fit mettre sur mes genoux et sur les paumes de mes mains.

 10 ¶ And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.

11 Et il me dit : Ô Daniel, homme grandement bien-aimé, comprends les paroles que je te dis, et tiens-toi droit, car je suis maintenant envoyé vers toi. Et quand il me disait cette parole, je me tenais debout en tremblant.

 11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.

12 Alors il me dit : N’aie pas peur, Daniel ; car dès le premier jour où tu as appliqué ton cœur à comprendre et à t’humilier devant ton Dieu, tes paroles ont été entendues, et je suis venu à cause de tes paroles.

 12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

13 Mais le prince du royaume de Perse m’a résisté vingt et un jours ; mais voici, Michael (Michaël), l’un des chefs des princes, est venu m’aider, et je suis demeuré là avec les rois de Perse.

 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.

14 Je suis venu maintenant pour te faire comprendre ce qui doit arriver à ton peuple dans les derniers jours ; car la vision est encore pour beaucoup de jours.

 14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

15 Et comme il me tenait de telles paroles, je tenais mon visage contre terre, et je devins muet.

 15 And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.

16 Et voici, un selon la ressemblance des fils des hommes toucha mes lèvres, alors j’ouvris la bouche, et je parlai et je dis à celui qui se tenait devant moi : Ô mon seigneur, par la vision mes douleurs tournent en moi, et je n’ai conservé aucune vigueur.

 16 And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.

17 Et comment pourra parler le serviteur de mon seigneur avec mon seigneur ? Car, quant à moi désormais il n’est resté en moi aucune vigueur, il ne reste plus de souffle en moi.

 17 For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.

18 Alors vint à nouveau et me toucha un qui avait l’apparence d’un homme, et il me fortifia.

 18 Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,

19 Et dit : Ô homme grandement bien-aimé, n’aie pas peur ; paix soit avec toi, sois fortifié, oui, sois fortifié. Et, comme il me parlait, je repris des forces, et je dis : Que mon seigneur parle, car tu m’as fortifié.

 19 And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

20 Et il me dit : Sais-tu pourquoi je suis venu vers toi ? Et maintenant je retourne pour combattre le prince de Perse ; et quand je serai parti, voici, le prince de Grèce viendra.

 20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.

21 Mais je te montrerai ce qui est écrit dans l’écriture de vérité ; et il n’y en a pas un qui tient ferme avec moi en ces choses, sinon Michael (Michaël), votre prince.

 21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
