1 Quand le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu t’aura fait entrer dans la terre où tu vas pour la posséder, et qu’il aura chassé beaucoup de nations de devant toi : les Hittites (Héthiens), les Girgashites (Guirgasiens), les Amorites (Amoréens), les Canaanites, (Cananéens) les Perizzites (Phéréziens), et les Hivites (Héviens), et les Jebusites (Jébusiens), sept nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que toi,

 1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

2 Et quand le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu les aura livrées devant toi, tu les frapperas, et tu les extermineras entièrement ; tu ne traiteras aucune alliance avec eux, et tu ne leur montreras pas miséricorde ;

 2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

3 Tu ne t’allieras pas par mariage avec eux ; tu ne donneras pas ta fille à leurs fils, et tu ne prendras pas leur fille pour ton fils,

 3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

4 Car elles détourneraient ton fils de me suivre, pour qu’ils puissent servir d’autres dieux, ainsi le courroux du SEIGNEUR s’enflammerait contre vous, et te détruirait soudainement.

 4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

5 Mais vous agirez ainsi avec eux : Vous démolirez leurs autels, vous briserez leurs statues, vous abattrez leurs bosquets et vous brûlerez au feu leurs images taillées.

 5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

6 Car tu es un peuple saint au SEIGNEUR ton Dieu ; le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu t’a choisi, afin que tu sois pour lui un peuple particulier, au-dessus de tous les peuples qui sont sur la surface de la terre.

 6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

7 Le SEIGNEUR ne s’est pasa adjoint par amour à vous, ni vous a choisis, parce que vous étiez plus nombreux qu’aucun autre peuple ; car vous étiez le moins nombreux de tous les peuples ;

 7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

8 Mais parce que le SEIGNEUR vous a aimés, et parce qu’il garde le serment qu’il a juré à vos pères, le SEIGNEUR vous a fait sortir par une puissante main, et vous a racheté de la maison de servitude, de la main de Pharaon, roi d’Égypte.

 8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

9 Sache donc que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, il est Dieu, le Dieu fidèle, qui garde alliance et miséricorde jusqu’à mille générations à ceux qui l’aiment et qui gardent ses commandements,

 9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

10 Et qui rétribue ceux qui le haïssent devant leurs faces, pour les détruire, il ne tardera pas envers celui qui le hait ; il le rétribuera en sa face.

 10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.

11 Tu garderas donc les commandements, et les statuts et les jugements que je te commande aujourd’hui, pour les faire.

 11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.

12 ¶ C’est pourquoi il arrivera que, si vous écoutez ces jugements, et vous les gardiez et que vous les faites, le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te gardera l’alliance et la miséricorde qu’il a jurées à tes pères ;

 12 ¶ Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

13 Et il t’aimera, et te bénira, et te multipliera, il bénira aussi le fruit de ton utérus et le fruit de ta terre, ton grain, et ton vin et ton huile, la progéniture de tes vaches et des troupeaux de tes moutons, sur la terre qu’il a juré à tes pères de te donner ;

 13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

14 Tu seras béni plus que tous les peuples ; il n’y aura parmi toi ni mâle ni femelle stérile, ni parmi ton bétail ;

 14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

15 Et le SEIGNEUR détournera de toi toute maladie ; et ne fera venir sur toi aucune des mauvaises plaies d’Égypte que tu connais ; mais il les mettra sur tous ceux qui te haïssent.

 15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

16 Et tu anéantiras tous les peuples que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te livrera ; ton œil n’aura aucune pitié sur eux, et tu ne serviras pas leurs dieux ; car cela serait un piège pour toi.

 16 And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.

17 Si tu dis en ton cœur : Ces nations sont plus nombreuses que moi, comment puis-je les déposséder ?

 17 If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?

18 Tu n’auras pas peur d’elles ; mais souviens-toi bien de ce que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu a fait à Pharaon et à tous les Égyptiens,

 18 Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;

19 De ces grandes épreuves que tes yeux ont vues, et des signes et des prodiges, et de la puissante main, et du bras étendu par lesquels le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu t’a fait sortir d’Égypte ; ainsi fera le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu, à tous les peuples dont tu aurais peur.

 19 The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.

20 De plus, le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu enverra les frelons contre eux, jusqu’à ce que ceux qui seront restés et ceux qui se cacheront de toi aient péri.

 20 Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.

21 Tu ne t’effrayeras pas à cause d’eux ; car le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu est au milieu de toi, un Dieu puissant et terrible.

 21 Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.

22 Et le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu arrachera ces nations de devant toi, petit à petit ; tu ne pourras pas les anéantir d’un coup, de peur que les bêtes des champs ne se multiplient contre toi ;

 22 And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

23 Mais le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te les livrera, et les détruira par une puissante destruction, jusqu’à ce qu’elles soient détruites.

 23 But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.

24 Et il livrera leurs rois en ta main, et tu feras périr leur nom de dessous le ciel ; et personne ne pourra subsister devant toi, jusqu’à ce que tu les aies détruites.

 24 And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.

25 Vous brûlerez au feu les images taillées de leurs dieux ; tu ne désireras pas l’argent ni l’or qui sont sur elles, et tu ne les prendras pas non plus pour toi, de peur qu’en cela tu ne sois pris dans un piège ; car c’est une abomination au SEIGNEUR ton Dieu.

 25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

26 Tu n’introduiras pas non plus d’abomination dans ta maison, de peur que tu ne deviennes une chose maudite comme elle ; tu la détesteras entièrement et tu l’auras entièrement en horreur ; car c’est une chose maudite.

 26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
