1 Quand le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu aura retranché les nations dont le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne la terre, et que tu leur auras succédé, et que tu demeureras dans leurs villes et dans leurs maisons,
|
1 When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
|
2 Tu sépareras pour toi trois villes au milieu de ton pays que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne pour le posséder ;
|
2 Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
|
3 Tu t’en prépareras un chemin, et tu diviseras en trois parties les confins de ton pays, que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donnera en héritage, afin que tout meurtrier puisse s’enfuir là.
|
3 Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.
|
4 ¶ Et c’est ici le cas pour le meurtrier qui s’y sera enfui, afin qu’il puisse vivre : Celui qui aura tué son voisin sans préméditation, et sans l’avoir haï auparavant ;
|
4 ¶ And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;
|
5 Comme quand un homme va avec son voisin dans la forêt pour couper du bois, et que sa main prenne la cognée pour couper le bois, et que le fer s’échappe du manche et frappe son voisin, et qu’il en meure, il s’enfuira dans une de ces villes et y vivra ;
|
5 As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:
|
6 De peur que le vengeur du sang ne poursuive le meurtrier pendant que son cœur est échauffé, et qu’il ne l’atteigne, parce que le chemin est long, et ne le tue, bien qu’il ne mérite pas la mort, d’autant qu’il ne le haïssait pas auparavant.
|
6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
|
7 C’est pourquoi, je te commande, disant : Sépare-toi trois villes.
|
7 Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.
|
8 Et si le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu élargit ton territoire, comme il l’a juré à tes pères, et qu’il te donne tout le pays qu’il a promis de donner à tes pères,
|
8 And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
|
9 Si tu prends garde à faire tous ces commandements que je te commande aujourd’hui, c’est-à-dire d’aimer le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu et de marcher toujours dans ses chemins, alors tu ajouteras pour toi trois villes de plus à ces trois-là ;
|
9 If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
|
10 Afin que le sang innocent ne soit pas versé dans ta terre, laquelle le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne en héritage, et qu’ainsi le sang ne soit sur toi.
|
10 That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
|
11 ¶ Mais si un homme hait son voisin, et se tient aux aguets, et se lève contre lui, et le frappe mortellement et qu’il meure, et qu’il s’enfuie dans l’une de ces villes,
|
11 ¶ But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
|
12 Alors les anciens de sa ville enverront le prendre de là, et le livreront en la main du vengeur du sang, afin qu’il meure.
|
12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
|
13 Ton œil n’en aura pas pitié ; mais tu ôteras d’Israël la culpabilité du sang innocent, afin que tout soit bien avec toi.
|
13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
|
14 ¶ Tu ne retireras pas les repères de ton voisin, que les ancêtres auront placées, dans ton héritage, lequel tu hériteras dans le pays que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne pour le posséder.
|
14 ¶ Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
|
15 ¶ Un seul témoin ne se lèvera pas contre un homme pour une quelconque iniquité, ou quelque péché qu’il ait commis ; mais en la bouche de deux témoins ou de trois témoins, l’affaire sera établie.
|
15 ¶ One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
|
16 ¶ Si un faux témoin s’élève contre homme quelconque pour témoigner contre lui, ce qui est un tort,
|
16 ¶ If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
|
17 Alors les deux hommes qui ont la controverse comparaîtront devant le SEIGNEUR, devant les prêtres et les juges qui seront en ces jours-là ;
|
17 Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
|
18 Et les juges s’enquerront soigneusement ; et voici, si le témoin est un faux témoin, et (s’il) a témoigné faussement contre son frère,
|
18 And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
|
19 Tu lui feras ainsi qu’il avait pensé faire à son frère ; ainsi tu ôteras le mal du milieu de toi.
|
19 Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
|
20 Et ceux qui restent l’entendront et craindront, et dorénavant ne commettront plus de semblable malveillance au milieu de toi.
|
20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
|
21 Et ton œil sera sans pitié : mais vie sera pour vie, œil pour œil, dent pour dent, main pour main, pied pour pied.
|
21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
