1 Si dans la terre que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne pour la posséder, on trouve un homme tué, étendu au champ, et qu’on ne sache pas qui l’a tué,

 1 If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:

2 Alors tes anciens et tes juges sortiront, et mesureront jusqu’aux villes qui sont autour de celui qui a été tué.

 2 Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:

3 Et il arrivera, que la ville qui est la plus proche de l’homme tué, que les anciens de cette ville prendront une génisse, qui n’a pas servi et qui n’a pas tiré avec un joug ;

 3 And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;

4 Et les anciens de cette ville feront descendre la génisse dans une vallée escarpée, qui ne soit ni pleine d’épis ni ensemencée ; et ils trancheront le cou de la génisse là dans la vallée.

 4 And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer’s neck there in the valley:

5 Et les prêtres, les fils de Levi (Lévi), s’approcheront ; car le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu les a choisis pour le servir et pour bénir au nom du SEIGNEUR, et qu’à leur parole toute controverse et tout blessure sera décidée.

 5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:

6 Et tous les anciens de cette ville, qui sont les plus près de l’homme tué, laveront leurs mains sur la génisse laquelle aura été décapitée dans la vallée ;

 6 And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:

7 Et ils répondront, et diront : Nos mains n’ont pas versé ce sang ; et nos yeux ne l’ont pas vu.

7 And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

8 Fais miséricorde, ô SEIGNEUR, à ton peuple Israël que tu as racheté, et n’impute pas le sang innocent à ton peuple Israël. Et le sang leur sera pardonné.

 8 Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel’s charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.

9 Et tu ôteras la culpabilité du sang innocent du milieu de vous, quand tu auras fait ce qui est droit aux yeux du SEIGNEUR.

 9 So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.

10 ¶ Quand tu iras à la guerre contre tes ennemis, et que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu les aura livrés en tes mains, et que tu les auras emmenés captifs,

 10 ¶ When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,

11 Et quand tu verras parmi les captifs une belle femme, et que tu la désires, et que tu veuilles la prendre pour être ta femme,

 11 And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;

12 Alors tu la mèneras dans ta maison, et elle rasera sa tête, et coupera ses ongles ;

 12 Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

13 Et elle retirera les vêtements de sa captivité ; et elle restera dans ta maison, et pleurera son père et sa mère un mois durant ; et après cela tu iras vers elle, et tu seras son mari, et elle sera ta femme.

 13 And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

14 Et il arrivera, que si elle ne te plais plus, tu la laisseras aller où elle voudra, mais tu ne la vendra en aucune façon pour de l’argent, tu n’en tirera aucun profit, parce que tu l’auras humiliée.

 14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.

15 ¶ Si un homme a deux femmes, l’une aimée et l’autre haïe, et que les deux lui aient enfanté des enfants, tant l’aimée que la femme haïe, et si le fils aîné est de celle qui est haïe ;

 15 ¶ If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:

16 Lorsqu’il le jour viendra, qu’il fera hériter à ses fils ce qu’il possède, il ne pourra pas reconnaître le fils de la femme aimée, premier-né à la place du fils de la femme haïe, lequel est vraiment le premier-né.

 16 Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:

17 Mais il reconnaîtra le fils de la femme haïe pour le premier-né, en lui donnant une double portion de tout ce qu’il possède ; car il est le commencement de sa vigueur ; le droit d’aînesse lui appartient.

17 But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

18 ¶ Si un homme a un fils obstiné et rebelle, qui n’obéit pas à la voix de son père, ni à la voix de sa mère, et qui, quand ils l’auront châtié, ne veut pas les écouter,

 18 ¶ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:

19 Alors son père et sa mère le prendront, et l’amèneront aux anciens de sa ville, et à la porte de son lieu ;

 19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

20 Et ils diront aux anciens de sa ville : Voici notre fils est obstiné et rebelle ; il ne veut pas obéir à notre voix ; il est un glouton et un ivrogne.

 20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

21 Et tous les hommes de sa ville le lapideront avec des pierres, et il mourra, ainsi tu ôteras le mal du milieu de toi, et tout Israël l’entendra et craindra.

 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

22 ¶ Et si un homme a commis un péché digne de mort, et qu’il soit mis à mort, et que tu le pendes à un arbre,

 22 ¶ And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

23 Son corps ne passera pas la nuit sur l’arbre ; mais tu l’enterreras certainement le jour même ; (car celui qui est pendu est malédiction de Dieu) : afin que ta terre ne soit pas souillée, laquelle le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne en héritage.

 23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
