1 S’il y a une controverse entre des hommes, et qu’ils viennent en jugement, afin que les juges puissent les juger, alors on justifiera l’homme droit, et l’on condamnera le méchant.

 1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.

2 Et il arrivera que si l’homme méchant a mérité d’être battu, le juge le fera jeter par terre et le fera battre devant lui, par un certain nombre de coups suivant sa faute.

2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.

3 Il pourra lui faire donner quarante coups, et pas plus ; de peur que s’il continuait à le battre au-delà de ces coups, ton frère alors te semblerait méprisable.

 3 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.

4 ¶ Tu n’emmuselleras pas le bœuf, quand il foule le grain.

 4 ¶ Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.

5 ¶ Si des frères demeurent ensemble, et que l’un d’eux meurt, et soit sans enfants, la femme du mort ne se mariera pas , hors de la famille à un étranger ; son beau-frère viendra vers elle, et la prendra pour femme, et s’acquittera de son devoir de beau-frère envers elle.

 5 ¶ If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.

6 Et il arrivera que le premier-né qu’elle enfantera succédera au nom de son frère qui est mort, afin que son nom ne soit pas effacé d’Israël.

 6 And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.

7 Et si l’homme ne veut pas prendre sa belle-sœur, sa belle-sœur montera à la porte, vers les anciens, et dira : Mon beau-frère refuse de relever le nom de son frère en Israël, il ne veut pas s’acquitter de son devoir de beau-frère.

 7 And if the man like not to take his brother’s wife, then let his brother’s wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband’s brother.

8 Alors les anciens de sa ville l’appelleront, et lui parleront ; et s’il tient ferme, et dit : Je ne veux pas la prendre,

 8 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;

9 Alors sa belle-sœur s’approchera de lui, devant les anciens, et déchaussera son soulier du pied, et lui crachera au visage ; et elle répondra et dira : Ainsi sera fait à cet homme qui n’édifiera pas la maison de son frère.

 9 Then shall his brother’s wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother’s house.

10 Et son nom sera appelé en Israël, la maison de celui à qui on a déchaussé le soulier.

 10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.

11 ¶ Quand des hommes se disputeront ensemble, l’un avec l’autre, et que la femme de l’un s’approche pour délivrer son mari de la main de celui qui le frappe, et qu’avançant sa main, elle le saisisse par ses parties génitales,

 11 ¶ When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:

12 Alors tu lui couperas sa main ; ton œil n’aura pas pitié d’elle.

 12 Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

13 ¶ Tu n’auras pas dans ton sac deux sortes de poids, un grand et un petit.

 13 ¶ Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.

14 Tu n’auras pas dans ta maison deux sortes de mesures, une grande et une petite ;

 14 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.

15 Tu auras un poids exact et juste ; tu auras aussi une mesure exacte et juste ; afin que tes jours soient prolongés sur la terre que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne.

 15 But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

16 Car quiconque fait de telles choses, et quiconque fait injustement, est en abomination au SEIGNEUR ton Dieu.

 16 For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

17 ¶ Souviens-toi de ce qu’Amalek t’a fait en chemin, quand vous sortiez d’Égypte ;

 17 ¶ Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;

18 Comment il te rencontra dans le chemin, et a frappé ton arrière garde, et même tous ceux qui étaient faibles et te suivaient, lorsque tu étais las et fatigué, et il ne craignit pas Dieu.

 18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.

19 C’est pourquoi il arrivera, lorsque le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu t’aura donné du repos de tous tes ennemis à l’entour, dans la terre que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu te donne en héritage pour la posséder, tu effaceras la mémoire d’Amalek de dessous le ciel ; tu ne l’oublieras pas.

 19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.
