1 Qui est comme l’homme sage ? et qui connaît l’interprétation d’une chose ? La sagesse de l’homme fait reluire son visage, et l’assurance de son visage en sera changée.

 1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

2 Je te conseile de garder le commandement du roi ; et cela à cause du serment de Dieu.

 2 I counsel thee to keep the king’s commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.

3 Ne te hâte pas de te retirer de devant sa présence ; et ne persévère pas dans une mauvaise chose ; car il fait tout ce qui lui plaît.

 3 Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.

4 Où est la parole du roi, là, est la puissance ; et qui lui dira. Que fais-tu ?

 4 Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?

5 Celui qui garde le commandement ne sentira aucun mal, et le cœur du sage discerne le temps et le jugement.

 5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man’s heart discerneth both time and judgment.

6 ¶ Parce que dans tout projet il y a un temps et un jugement, c’est pourquoi la misère de l’homme est grande sur lui.

 6 ¶ Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.

7 Car il ne sait pas ce qui arrivera ; car qui peut lui dire quand cela arrivera ?

 7 For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?

8 Il n’y a aucun homme qui ait pouvoir sur l’esprit pour le retenir, il n’a pas non plus pouvoir sur le jour de la mort ; et il n’y a aucune dispense dans cette guerre, et la malfaisance ne délivrera pas non plus ceux qui s’y sont adonnés.

 8 There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

9 J’ai vu tout cela, et j’ai appliqué mon cœur à toute œuvre qui se fait sous le soleil il y a un temps où l’homme domine sur l’homme pour son propre mal.

 9 All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.

10 Et alors j’ai vu les méchants être enterrés, qui étaient allés et venus du lieu saint, et ils étaient oubliés dans la ville où ils avaient ainsi fait. Cela est aussi vanité.

 10 And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

11 Parce que la sentence contre les mauvaises œuvres ne s’exécute pas promptement, c’est pourquoi le cœur des fils des hommes est plein de l’envie de faire le mal.

 11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

12 ¶ Bien que le pécheur fasse le mal cent fois, et ses jours sont prolongés, cependant je sais qu’assurément tout ira bien pour ceux qui craignent Dieu, qui craignent devant lui.

 12 ¶ Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

13 Mais tout n’ira pas bien pour le méchant, et il ne prolongera pas ses jours, qui sont comme l’ombre, parce qu’il ne craint pas devant Dieu.

 13 But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.

14 Il est une vanité qui a lieu sur la terre c’est qu’il y a des hommes justes auxquels il arrive selon l’œuvre des méchants ; et il y a des hommes méchants auxquels il arrive selon l’œuvre des droits j’ai dit que cela aussi est vanité.

 14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

15 Alors j’ai loué la gaieté, parce qu’il n’y rien de meilleur pour l’homme sous le soleil que de manger, et de boire, et d’être heureux ; car cela lui restera de son travail pendant les jours de sa vie, que Dieu lui donne sous le soleil.

 15 Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.

16 ¶ Lorsque j’ai appliqué mon cœur à connaître la sagesse, et à regarder les affaires qui se font sur la terre, (car il n’y a même ni jour ni nuit, l’homme ne donne pas de repos à ses yeux),

 16 ¶ When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)

17 Puis j’ai contemplé toute l’œuvre de Dieu, que l’homme ne peut pas trouver l’œuvre qui se fait sous le soleil ; parce que bien que l’homme travaille à la chercher, cependant il ne la trouve pas ; et de plus, quand bien même le sage croit la connaître, cependant il ne sera pas capable de la trouver.

 17 Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
