1 Souviens-toi maintenant de ton créateur pendant les jours de ta jeunesse, avant que les jours mauvais viennent, et avant qu’arrivent les années dont tu diras Je n’y prends pas de plaisir ;
|
1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
|
2 Pendant que le soleil, la lumière, la lune et les étoiles ne sont pas obscurcis, ni que les nuages reviennent après la pluie ;
|
2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
|
3 Au jour où les gardiens de la maison trembleront, et où les hommes forts se courberont, et où celles qui broient cesseront, parce qu’elles sont peu nombreuses, et ceux qui regardent par les fenêtres sont obscurcis ;
|
3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
|
4 Et où les deux battants de la porte seront fermés sur la rue, quand le bruit de la meule baisse, et qu’on se lèvera au chant de l’oiseau, et que toutes les filles de musique seront courbées ;
|
4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
|
5 Quand aussi l’on craindra ce qui est haut, qu’on aura peur en chemin, et quand l’amandier fleurira, et que la sauterelle deviendra pesante, et que le désir manquera ; parce que l’homme s’en va vers sa dernière demeure, et ceux qui mènent deuil parcourent les rues ;
|
5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
|
6 Ou avant que la corde d’argent se délie, que le vase d’or se brise, que la cruche se brise à la fontaine, et que la roue se brise à la citerne ;
|
6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
|
7 Puis la poussière retournera dans la terre, comme elle y avait été, et l’esprit retournera à Dieu qui l’a donné.
|
7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
|
8 ¶ Vanité des vanités, dit le prédicateur, tout est vanité.
|
8 ¶ Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
|
9 De plus, parce que le prédicateur était sage, il a encore enseigné la connaissance au peuple ; oui, il s’est rendu attentif et a sondé et mis en ordre beaucoup de Proverbes .
|
9 And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
|
10 Le prédicateur a cherché pour trouver les mots agréables ; et ce qui a été écrit l’a été avec rectitude ; même des mots de vérité.
|
10 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
|
11 Les paroles des sages sont comme des aiguillons, et comme des clous enfoncés par les maîtres des assemblées, qui sont données par un seul berger.
|
11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
|
12 Et de plus, mon fils, sois admonesté par elles à faire écrire beaucoup de livres, il n’y a pas de fin, et beaucoup d’étude fatigue la chair.
|
12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
|
13 ¶ Écoutons la conclusion de tout ce propos Crains Dieu, et garde ses commandements ; car c’est là tout le devoir de l’homme.
|
13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
|
14 Car Dieu amènera toute œuvre en jugement, avec tout ce qui est caché, soit bien, soit mal.
|
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
|
