1 Après ces choses, le roi Ahasuerus (Assuérus) promut Haman, le fils d’Hammedatha, l’Agagite, et lui donna de l’avancement, et plaça son siège au-dessus de tous les princes qui étaient avec lui.

 1 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

2 Et tous les serviteurs du roi, qui étaient à la porte du roi, se courbaient et montraient du respect envers Haman ; car le roi l’avait ainsi commandé à son égard. Mais Mordecai (Mardochée) ne se courbait pas, ni ne lui montrait aucun respect.

 2 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

3 Alors les serviteurs du roi, qui étaient à la porte du roi, dirent à Mordecai (Mardochée) : Pourquoi transgresses-tu le commandement du roi ?

 3 Then the king’s servants, which were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?

4 Or il arriva que, comme ils lui parlaient tous les jours, et qu’il ne les écoutait pas, ils le dirent à Haman pour voir si Mordecai (Mardochée) tiendrait ferme ; car il leur avait dit qu’il était Juif.

 4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

5 Et lorsqu’Haman vit que Mordecai (Mardochée) ni se courbait, ni ne lui montrait aucun respect, alors Haman fut rempli de colère.

 5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

6 Mais il estimait ridicule de mettre la main sur Mordecai (Mardochée) seul, car on lui avait appris de quel peuple venait Mordecai (Mardochée) ; c’est pourquoi Haman chercha à exterminer tous les Juifs, qui étaient dans tout le royaume d’Ahasuerus (Assuérus), c’est-à-dire le peuple de Mordecai (Mardochée).

 6 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

7 ¶ Au premier mois, qui est le mois de Nisan, en la douzième année du roi Ahasuerus (Assuérus), on jeta Pur, c’est-à-dire, le sort, devant Haman, pour chaque jour et pour chaque mois, jusqu’au douzième mois, qui est le mois d’Adar.

 7 ¶ In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.

8 ¶ Et Haman dit au roi Ahasuerus (Assuérus) : Il y a un certain peuple éparpillé et dispersé parmi les peuples, dans toutes les provinces de ton royaume, et leurs lois sont différentes de celles de tous les peuples, ils n’observent pas les lois du roi ; de sorte qu’il n’est pas bénéfique pour le roi de le laisser faire.

 8 ¶ And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them.

9 S’il plait au roi, qu’on écrive un décret afin de pouvoir les détruire ; et je paierai dix mille talents d’argent aux mains de ceux qui s’ont chargés des affaires, pour qu’on les porte dans les trésors du roi.

 9 If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.

10 Et le roi prit son anneau de sa main, et le donna à Haman, le fils d’Hammedatha, l’Agagite, l’ennemi des Juifs.

 10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

11 Et le roi dit à Haman : L’argent t’est donné, ainsi que le peuple, pour en faire comme bon te semblera.

 11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.

12 Alors les scribes du roi furent appelés le treizième jour du premier mois, et on écrivit selon tout ce qu’Haman avait commandé, aux lieutenants du roi et aux gouverneurs qui étaient préposés sur chaque province, et aux dirigeants de chaque peuple, à chaque province selon sa façon d’écrire, et à chaque peuple selon sa langue ; on écrivit au nom du roi Ahasuerus (Assuérus), et on scella avec l’anneau du roi.

 12 Then were the king’s scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.

13 Et les lettres furent envoyées par des courriers dans toutes les provinces du roi, afin de détruire, de tuer et de faire périr tous les Juifs, les jeunes aussi bien que les vieux, les petits enfants et les femmes, en un seul jour, savoir le treizième jour du douzième mois, qui est le mois d’Adar, et de prendre leur butin.

 13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

14 La copie de l’écrit fut publié dans chaque province, qu’un ordre serait donné à tous les peuples, afin qu’ils soient prêts pour ce jour-là.

 14 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.

15 Les courriers, pressés par le commandement du roi, partirent, et le décret fut donné à Shushan (Suse0au palais. Et le roi et Haman s’assirent et burent, mais la ville de Shushan était perplexe.

 15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.
