1 Puis, quatorze ans plus tard, je montai de nouveau à Jérusalem avec Barnabas, et pris Tite avec moi aussi.

 1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.

2 Et j'y montai par révélation, et leur communiquai cet évangile lequel je prêche parmi les Gentils, mais séparément à ceux qui avaient bonne réputation, de peur qu’en quelque sorte je ne coure ou n’aie couru en vain.

 2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.

3 Mais d’ailleurs Tite, qui était avec moi, bien que Grec, ne fut pas forcé à être circoncis:

 3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:

4 Et cela parce que de faux frères subrepticement introduits, qui s’étaient glissés pour épier notre liberté laquelle nous avons en Christ Jésus, pour qu’ils puissent nous amener à la servitude:

 4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

5 Auxquels nous n'avons pas cédé par soumission, non, pas même une heure; afin que la vérité de l'évangile puisse continuer avec vous.

 5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

6 Mais de ceux qui semblaient être quelque chose (quels qu'ils aient été, cela ne m'ait pas important: Dieu ne fait pas de distinction de personne): car ceux qui semblaient être quelque chose à cette conférence ne m'ont rien apporté de plus:

 6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:

7 Mais au contraire, lorsqu’ils virent que l'évangile de l'incirconcision m’avait été confié, comme l’évangile de la circoncision l'avait été à Pierre;

 7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

8 (Car celui qui a procédé efficacement en Pierre pour l'apostolat de la circoncision, le même fut puissant en moi envers les Gentils):

 8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

9 Et lorsque Jacques, Céphas et Jean qui semblaient être des piliers, perçurent la grâce qui m'était donnée, ils me donnèrent et à Barnabas, les mains droites d’association; afin que nous allions vers les païens, et eux vers la circoncision.

 9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

10 Ils voulurent seulement que nous nous souvenions des pauvres; ce qu'aussi je me suis empressé de faire.

 10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

11 Mais lorsque Pierre vint à Antioche, je lui tins tête face à face, parce qu'il devait être repris.

 11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

12 Car avant que certains envoyés par Jacques arrivent, il mangeait avec les Gentils: mais lorsque ceux-là furent venus, il se retira et se sépara d’eux, craignant ceux qui étaient de la circoncision.

 12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.

13 Et les autres Juifs se dissimulèrent de même avec lui; à tel point que Barnabas aussi fut entraîné par leur dissimulation.

 13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

14 Mais lorsque je vis qu'ils ne marchaient pas droitement selon la vérité de l'évangile, j’ai dit à Pierre devant eux tous: Si toi, étant un Juif, tu vis suivant la manière des Gentils, et non pas comme font les Juifs, pourquoi forces-tu les Gentils à vivre comme font les Juifs?

 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

15 Nous qui sommes Juifs de nature et non pécheurs d'entre les Gentils,

 15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

16 Sachant qu'un homme n'est pas justifié par les œuvres de la loi, mais par la foi de Jésus Christ, nous avons, dis-je, cru en Jésus Christ, afin que nous puissions être justifiés par la foi de Christ et non pas par les œuvres de la loi: car par les œuvres de la loi nulle chair ne sera justifiée.

 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

17 Mais si, tandis que nous cherchons à être justifiés par Christ, nous, nous-mêmes aussi sommes trouvés pécheurs, Christ est-il donc le ministre du péché? Dieu nous en garde.

 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

18 Car si je bâtis de nouveau les choses que j'ai détruites, je fais de moi un transgresseur.

 18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

19 Car moi par l'intermédiaire de la loi suis mort à la loi, afin que je puisse vivre à Dieu.

 19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

20 Je suis crucifié avec Christ: néanmoins je vis; cependant pas moi, mais Christ vit en moi: et la vie que je vis maintenant dans la chair, je la vis par la foi du Fils de Dieu, qui m'a aimé, et s'est donné lui-même pour moi.

 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

21 Je ne frustre pas la grâce de Dieu: car si la droiture vient par la loi, alors Christ est mort en vain.

 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
