1 Ainsi les cieux et la terre furent achevés, et toute leur armée.

 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 Et au septième jour Dieu acheva son œuvre qu’il avait faite ; et il se reposa au septième jour de toute son œuvre qu’il avait faite.

 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 Et Dieu bénit le septième jour, et le sanctifia: parce qu’en ce jour il sereposa de toute son œuvre, laquelle Dieu avait créée et faite.

 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4 ¶ Ce sont ici les générations des cieux et de la terre, lorsqu’ils furent créés, au jour que le SEIGNEUR Dieu fit la terre et les cieux,

 4 ¶ These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

5 Et toute plante des champs avant qu'elle fût sur la terre, et tout l’herbage des champs avant qu’il poussa: car le SEIGNEUR Dieu n’avait pas fait pleuvoir sur la terre, et il n’y avait pas d’homme pour cultiver le sol.

 5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 Mais il montait une brume de la terre, et arrosait toute la surface du sol.

 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7 Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu forma l’homme de la poussière du sol, et inspira dans ses narines le souffle de vie ; et l’homme devint une âme vivante.

 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu planta un jardin vers l’Est en Éden ; et il y plaça l’homme qu’il avait formé.

 8 ¶ And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9 Et du sol le SEIGNEUR DIEU fit pousser tout arbre qui est agréable à la vue, et bon à manger ; l’arbre de vie aussi au milieu du jardin, et l’arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal.

 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10 Et un fleuve sortait d’Éden pour arroser le jardin ; et de là il se divisait et devenait quatre bras.

 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

11 Le nom du premier est Pison: qui est celui qui entoure tout le pays d'Havilah, où il y a de l’or ;

 11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12 Et l’or de ce pays est bon: il y a du bdellium, et de la pierre d’onyx.

 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

13 Et le nom du second fleuve est Gihon : c’est lui qui entoure tout le pays d’Éthiopie.

 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

14 Et le nom du troisième fleuve est Hiddekel: c’est celui qui coule vers l’Est de l’Assyrie. Et le quatrième fleuve est l’Euphrate.

 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15 Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu prit l’homme, et le plaça dans le jardin d’Éden pour l’entretenir et pour le garder.

 15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16 Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu commanda à l’homme, disant, De tout arbre du jardin tu peux librement manger:

 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 Mais de l’arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal, tu ne dois pas en manger: car au jour où tu en mangeras, tu mourras assurément.

 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu dit, Il n’est pas bon que l’homme devrait être seul ; je lui ferai une aide adaptée.

 18 ¶ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19 Et hors du sol le SEIGNEUR Dieu forma toutes les bêtes des champs, et tous les volatiles dans l’air; et il les amena à Adam, pour voir comment il les nommerait: et quel que soit le nom qu’Adam nommait chaque créature vivante, cela fut son nom.

 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 Et Adam donna des noms à tout le bétail, et aux volatiles dans l’air, et à toutes les bêtes des champs ; mais pour Adam il ne fut pas trouvé d’aide adaptée.

 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21 Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur Adam, et il dormit: et il prit une de ses côtes, et referma la chair à sa place ;

 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 Et de la côte que le SEIGNEUR Dieu avait prise de l’homme, il fit une femme, et l’amena à l’homme.

 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 Et Adam dit, C’est à présent os de mes os, et chair de ma chair: elle doit être appelée Femme, parce qu’elle a été prise de l’Homme.

 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Par conséquent un homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s’attacherà à sa femme : et ils seront une seule chair.

 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 Et ils étaient tous deux nus, l’homme et sa femme, et n’en étaient pas honteux.

 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
