1 Or le serpent était plus sournois qu’aucune des bêtes des champs que le SEIGNEUR DIEU avait faites. Et il dit à la femme, Oui, Dieu a t-il dit, Vous ne devez pas manger de tout arbre du jardin ?

 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 Et la femme dit au serpent, Nous pouvons manger du fruit des arbres du jardin :

 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 Mais du fruit de l’arbre qui est au milieu du jardin, Dieu a dit, Vous ne devez pas en manger ni ne devez le toucher, de peur que vous mouriez.

 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 Et le serpent dit à la femme, Vous ne mourrez sûrement pas:

 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 Car Dieu sait qu’au jour où vous en mangerez, alors vos yeux seront ouverts, et vous serez comme des dieux, connaissant le bien et le mal.

 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 Et lorsque la femme vit que l’arbre était bon en tant que nourriture, et qu’il était plaisant aux yeux, et un arbre à désirer pour rendre sage, elle prit de son fruit et en mangea, et en donna aussi à son mari avec elle ; et il en mangea.

 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7 Et les yeux de tous deux furent ouverts ; et ils surent qu’ils étaient nus ; et ils cousirent ensemble des feuilles de figuier, et se firent des tabliers.

 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 Et ils entendirent la voix du SEIGNEUR Dieu marchant dans le jardin à la fraîcheur du jour: et Adam et sa femme se cachèrent de la présence du SEIGNEUR DIEU parmi les arbres du jardin.

 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu appela Adam, et lui dit: Où es-tu ?

 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 Et il it, J’ai entendu ta voix dans le jardin, et j’ai eu peur, parce que j'étais nu ; et je me suis caché.

 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 Et il dit: Qui t’a dit que tu étais nu ? As-tu mangé de l’arbre, dont je t’avais commandé que tu ne devais pas manger ?

 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 Et l’homme dit: La femme que tu m’as donnée pour être avec moi, elle m’a donné de l’arbre et j’en ai mangé.

 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu dit à la femme: Qu’est-ce que tu as fait ? Et la femme dit: Le serpent m’a dupée, et j’ai mangé.

 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14 Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu dit au serpent: Parce que tu as fait cela, tu es maudit par-dessus tout le bétail et par-dessus toutes les bêtes des champs ; sur ton ventre tu iras, et tu mangeras la poussière tous les jours de ta vie:

 14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 Et je mettrai inimitié entre toi et la femme, et entre ta semence et sa semence, cette semence doit meurtrir ta tête, et toi tu dois lui meurtrir son talon.

 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16 À la femme il dit, Je multiplierai grandement ta douleur et ta conception ; avec douleur tu enfanteras; et ton désir sera vers ton mari, et il dominera sur toi.

 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 Et à Adam il dit, Parce que tu as prêté attention à la voix de ta femme, et tu as mangé de l’arbre, duquel je t’avais commandé, disant, Tu ne doit pas en manger : maudit est le sol à cause de toi ; avec douleur tu en mangeras tous les jours de ta vie ;

 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Épines et chardons il te produira ; et tu mangeras les plantes des champs ;

 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 À la sueur de ton visage tu mangeras du pain, jusqu’à ce que tu retournes au sol ; car de lui tu as été pris: car poussière tu es, et à la poussière tu retourneras.

 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

20 Et Adam appela le nom de sa femme Ève ; parce qu’elle était la mère de tous les vivants.

 20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21 À Adam et aussi à sa femme le SEIGNEUR Dieu fit des manteaux de peaux, et les en revêtit.

 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 ¶ Et le SEIGNEUR Dieu dit: Voici, l’homme est devenu comme l’un de nous, pour connaître le bien et le mal: et maintenant, de peur qu’il n’avance sa main, et ne prenne aussi de l’arbre de vie, et n’en mange, et ne vive pour toujours :

 22 ¶ And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23 Par conséquent le SEIGNEUR Dieu l’envoya hors du jardin d’Éden, pour cultiver le sol d’où il avait été pris.

 23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 Ainsi il chassa l’homme ; et il plaça à l’est du jardin d’Éden des Chérubins, et une épée flamboyante laquelle tournait en toute direction, pour garder le chemin de l’arbre de vie.

 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
