1 Et il arriva, lorsque les hommes commencèrent à se multiplier sur la surface de la terre et que des filles leur furent nées,

 1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 Que les fils de Dieu virent les filles des hommes, qu’elles étaient belles, et ils en prirent pour femmes d’entre toutes celles qu’ils choisirent.

 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 Et le SEIGNEUR dit, Mon esprit ne se battra pas toujours avec l’homme, car lui aussi n’est que chair : cependant ses jours seront de cent vingt ans.

 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4 Il y avait des géants sur la terre en ces jours-là ; et aussi après cela lorsque les fils de Dieu vinrent vers les filles des hommes, et elles leur enfantèrent des enfants ; ceux-ci devinrent de puissants hommes lesquels jadis furent des hommes de renom.

 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

5 ¶ Et DIEU vit que l’immoralité de l’homme était grande sur la terre, et que toute l’imagination des pensées de son cœur n’était que continuellement mauvaise.

 5 ¶ And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 Et cela fit que le SEIGNEUR se repentit de ce qu’il avait fait l’homme sur la terre, et cela l’attrista dans son cœur.

 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 Et le SEIGNEUR dit: Je vais détruire l’homme que j’ai créé de la surface de la terre ; tant homme que bête et les êtres rampants, et les volatiles dans l’air; car cela me fait me repentir de les avoir faits.

 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 Mais Noé trouva grâce aux yeux du SEIGNEUR.

 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

9 ¶ Ce sont ici les générations de Noé: Noé était un homme juste et parfait parmi sa génération, et Noé marcha avec Dieu.

 9 ¶ These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

10 Et Noé engendra trois fils, Sem, Ham et Japheth.

 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 La terre aussi était corrompue devant Dieu, et la terre était remplie de violence.

 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

12 Et Dieu regarda la terre, et, voici, elle était corrompue ; car toute chair avait corrompu ses agissements sur la terre.

 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 Et Dieu dit à Noé, La fin de toute chair est venue devant moi ; car la terre est remplie de violence à cause d’eux ; et, voici, je vais les détruire avec la terre.

 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

14 ¶ Fais-toi une arche de bois de gopher ; tu feras des pièces dans l’arche ; et tu la calfateras d’asphalte à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur.

 14 ¶ Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

15 Et c’est de cette manière que tu dois la faire : La longueur de l’arche doit être de trois cents coudées, sa largeur de cinquante coudées, et sa hauteur de trente coudées.

 15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

16 Tu dois faire une fenêtre à l’arche, et tu dois l’achever d’une coudée par le haut ; et tu dois placer la porte de l’arche sur son côté ; tu dois la faire avec un étage inférieur, un second, et un troisième.

 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

17 Et, voici, je, c’est-à-dire moi- même, vais faire venir un déluge d’eaux sur la terre, pour détruire toute chair, en laquelle il y a le souffle de vie, en dessous du ciel ; et tout être qui est sur la terre doit mourir.

 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

18 Mais avec toi j’établirai mon alliance ; et tu entreras dans l’arche, toi,et tes fils, et ta femme, et les femmes de tes fils avec toi.

 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.

19 Et de chaque être vivant de toute chair, deux de chaque sorte tu feras entrer dans l’arche, pour les garder en vie avec toi ; ils doivent être mâle et femelle.

 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.

20 Des volatiles suivant leur catégorie, et du bétail suivant sa catégorie, de tout être rampant sur la terre suivant sa catégorie, deux de chaque sorte doivent venir à toi pour les garder en vie.

 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.

21 Et toi, prends pour toi de toute nourriture qui se mange, et tu dois la recueillir près de toi ; et cela doit t’être pour nourriture et pour eux.

 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.

22 Ainsi fit Noé, selon tout ce que Dieu lui commanda, ainsi fit-il.

 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
