1 Et la terre entière était d’un seul langage et d’une seule élocution.

 1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 Et il arriva, comme ils voyageaient partis de l’est, qu’ils trouvèrent une plaine dans le pays de Shinar, et ils y demeurèrent.

 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 Et ils se dirent l’un l’autre: Allons, faisons des briques, et cuisons-les complètement. Et ils eurent de la brique à la place de pierre, et du limon ils eurent pour mortier.

 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

4 Et ils dirent: Allons, bâtissons-nous une ville et une tour, dont le sommet puisse atteindre jusqu’au ciel ; et faisons-nous un nom, de peur que nous ne soyons dispersés de tous côtés sur la surface de toute la terre.

 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 Et le SEIGNEUR descendit pour voir la ville et la tour, laquelle les enfants des hommes bâtissaient.

 5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6 Et le SEIGNEUR dit: Voici, le peuple est un, et ils ont tous un seul langage ; et ils commencent à faire ceci: et maintenant rien ne les retiendra d’exécuter tout ce qu’ils ont imaginé de faire.

 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Allons, descendons, et confondons là leur langage, pour qu’ils ne puissent pas comprendre l’élocution l’un de l’autre.

 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8 Ainsi le SEIGNEUR les dispersa de tous côtés sur la surface de toute la terre: et ils cessèrent de bâtir la ville.

 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9 Par conséquent son nom est appelé Babel ; parce que le SEIGNEUR confondit là le langage de toute la terre: et de là le SEIGNEUR les dispersa de tous côtés sur la surface de toute la terre.

 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

10 ¶ Ceux-ci sont les générations de Shem: Shem était âgé de cent ans, et engendra Arphaxad, deux ans après le déluge :

 10 ¶ These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

11 Et Shem vécut après qu’il eut engendré Arphaxad, cinq-cents ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.

 11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

12 Et Arphaxad vécut trente-cinq ans, et engendra Salah :

 12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

13 Et Arphaxad vécut après qu’il eut engendré Salah quatre cent trois ans ; et il engendra des fils et des filles.

 13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

14 Et Salah vécut trente ans, et engendra Eber:

 14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

15 Et Salah vécut après qu’il eut engendré Eber quatre cent trois ans ; et il engendra des fils et des filles.

 15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

16 Et Eber vécut trente-quatre ans, et engendra Peleg :

 16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

17 Et Eber vécut après qu’il eut engendré Peleg quatre cent trente ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.

 17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

18 Et Peleg vécut trente ans, et engendra Reu.

 18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

19 Et Peleg vécut après qu’il eut engendré Reu deux cent neuf ans, et engendra des fils et des filles.

 19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

20 Et Reu vécut trente-deux ans, et engendra Serug :

 20 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

21 Et Reu vécut après qu’il eut engendré Serug deux cent sept ans, et engendra des fils et des filles.

 21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

22 Et Serug vécut trente ans, et engendra Nahor:

 22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

23 Et Serug vécut après qu’il eut engendré Nahor deux cents ans, et il engendra des fils et des filles.

 23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

24 Et Nahor vécut vingt-neuf ans, et engendra Terah :

 24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

25 Et Nahor vécut après qu’il eut engendré Terah cent dix-neuf ans, et engendra des fils et des filles.

 25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

26 Et Terah vécut soixante-dix ans, et engendra Abram, Nahor et Haran.

 26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 ¶Et maintenant ceux-ci sont les générations de Terah: Terah engendra Abram, Nahor et Haran ; et Haran engendra Lot.

 27 ¶ Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

28 Et Haran mourut avant Terah son père, dans la terre de sa naissance, à Ur des Chaldéens.

 28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 Et Abram et Nahor prirent des femmes: le nom de la femme d’Abram était Saraï, et le nom de la femme de Nahor, Milcah, la fille de Haran, le père de Milcah et le père d’Iscah.

 29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

30 Mais Saraï était stérile ; elle n’avait pas d’enfant.

 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

31 Et Terah prit Abram son fils, et Lot, le fils de Haran, le fils de son fils, et Saraï sa belle-fille, la femme d’Abram son fils, et ils sortirent avec eux d’Ur des Chaldéens, pour aller en la terre de Canaan ; et ils arrivèrent à Haran, et demeurèrent là.

 31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

32 Et les jours de Terah furent de deux cent cinq ans: et Terah mourut à Haran.

 32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
