1 Et il entendit les paroles des fils de Laban, disant, Jacob a pris tout ce qui était à notre père ; et de ce qui était à notre père, il a acquis toute cette gloire.

 1 And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.

2 Et Jacob observa le visage de Laban, et voici, il n’était plus à son égard comme avant.

 2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

3 Et le SEIGNEUR dit à Jacob: Retourne dans la terre de tes pères, et vers ta parenté, et je serai avec toi.

 3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

4 Et Jacob envoya et appela Rachel et Leah aux champs vers son troupeau,.

 4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

5 Et leur dit: Je vois le visage de votre père, qu’il n’est pas envers moi comme avant ; mais le Dieu de mon père a été avec moi.

 5 And said unto them, I see your father’s countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.

6 Et vous savez qu’avec tout mon pouvoir j’ai servi votre père de.

 6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.

7 Et votre père m’a trompé, et changea mon salaire dix fois ; mais Dieu ne lui permit pas de me faire du mal.

 7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

8 S’il disait ceci, Les marquetés seront tes gages ; alors tout le bétail mettaient bas des marquetés : et s’il disait ceci, Les rayés seront ton salaire, alors tout le bétail mettait bas des rayés.

 8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked.

9 Ainsi Dieu a retiré le bétail de votre père, et me le donna.

 9 Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

10 Et il arriva au temps où le bétail conçut, que je levai les yeux et vis dans un rêve, et, voici, les béliers qui couvraient les chèvres étaient rayés, marquetés et cendrés.

 10 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.

11 Et l’ange de Dieu me parla dans un rêve, disant, Jacob. Et je dis: Me voici.

 11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.

12 Et il dit: Maintenant lève tes yeux, et vois tous les béliers, qui couvrent le bétail, sont rayés, marquetés et tachetés ; car j’ai vu tout ce que te fait Laban.

 12 And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.

13 Je suis le Dieu de Bethel, où tu oignis la colonne, et où tu me fis un vœu: maintenant, lève-toi, sors de ce pays, et retourne dans la terre de ta parenté.

 13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.

14 Et Rachel et Leah répondirent et lui dirent, Y a-t-il encore quelque portion ou patrimoine pour nous dans la maison de notre père ?

 14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?

15 Ne sommes-nous pas traitées comme des étrangères ? Car il nous a vendues, et a même mangé aussi notre argent

 15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.

16 Car toutes les richesses que Dieu a prises à notre père sont à nous et à nos enfants: maintenant donc, tout ce que Dieu t’a dit, fais.

 16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children’s: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.

17 ¶ Alors Jacob se leva, et fit monter ses fils et ses femmes sur les chameaux.

 17 ¶ Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;

18 Et il emporta tout son bétail et tous les biens qu’il avait acquis, le bétail de sa possession, qu’il avait acquis à Padanaram, pour aller vers Isaac, son père, dans la terre de Canaan.

 18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

19 Et Laban alla tondre ses moutons: et Rachel avait volé les images qui étaient à son père.

 19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father’s.

20 Et Jacob se déroba de Laban le Syrien, en ne lui disant, pas qu’il s’enfuyait.

 20 And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.

21 Ainsi il s’enfuit avec tout ce qu’il avait ; et il se leva, et passa la rivière, et se dirigea vers le mont Gilead.

 21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

22 Et on rapporta à Laban au troisième jour que Jacob s’était enfui.

 22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

23 Et il prit ses frères avec lui, et le poursuivit sept journées de marche ; et ils le rattrapèrent au mont Gilead.

 23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

24 Et Dieu vint à Laban le Syrien, dans un rêve de nuit et lui dit: Garde-toi de parler à Jacob, ni en bien, ni en mal.

 24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

25 ¶ Puis Laban rattrapa Jacob. Or Jacob avait dressé sa tente sur le mont: et Laban dressa la sienne avec ses frères sur le mont Gilead .

 25 ¶ Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

26 Et Laban dit à Jacob: Qu’as-tu fait, que tu t’es dérobé de moi, et as emmené mes filles comme des captives prises par l’épée ?

 26 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?

27 Pourquoi t’es-tu enfui secrètement et t’es-tu dérobé, et ne m’as-tu pas dit, afin que je puisse te renvoyer avec gaité et avec des chants, avec le tambourin et avec la harpe ?

 27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?

28 Et tu ne m’as pas laissé embrasser mes fils et mes filles ? Tu as maintenant agi absurdement en faisant cela.

 28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.

29 J’ai en ma main le pouvoir de vous faire du mal: mais le Dieu de votre père m’a parlé la nuit dernière, disant, Garde-toi de parler à Jacob, ni en bien, ni en mal.

 29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

30 Et maintenant, bien que tu étais obligé de partir, parce qu’il te tardait grandement d’aller à la maison de ton père , cependant pourquoi as-tu volé mes dieux ?

 30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father’s house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?

31 Et Jacob répondit et dit à Laban: Parce que j’ai eu peur: car j’ai dit: Peut-être que tu pourrais prendre de force tes filles.

 31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.

32 Quiconque chez qui tu trouveras tes dieux, qu’il ne vive pas: devant nos frères reconnais ce qui est à toi chez moi, et prends-le. Car Jacob ne savait pas que Rachel les avait volés.

 32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.

33 Et Laban entra dans la tente de Jacob et dans la tente de Leah ; mais et dans la tente des deux servantes, et il ne les trouva pas. Puis il sortit de la tente de Leah, et entra dans la tente de Rachel.

 33 And Laban went into Jacob’s tent, and into Leah’s tent, and into the two maidservants’ tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah’s tent, and entered into Rachel’s tent.

34 Or Rachel avait pris les images et les avait mises dans le bât du chameau, et s’était assise dessus. Et Laban fouilla toute la tente, mais ne les trouva pas.

 34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.

35 Et elle dit à son père: Que cela ne déplaise pas à mon seigneur que je ne puis me lever devant toi ; car ce qui a coutume de venir aux femmes m’est arrivé. Et il chercha, mais ne trouva pas les images.

 35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.

36 ¶ Et Jacob fut courroucé, et se querella avec Laban: et Jacob répondit et dit à Laban: Quelle est mon infraction ? Quel est mon péché, pour que tu m’aies poursuivi si ardemment ?

 36 ¶ And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

37 Vu que tu as fouillé tout mon fatras, qu’as-tu trouvé de tout le fatras de ta maison ? Mets-le ici devant mes frères et tes frères, afin qu’ils puissent juger entre nous deux.

 37 Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.

38 J’ai été avec toi ces vingt ans ; tes agnelles et tes chèvres n’ont pas avorté ; et je n’ai pas mangé les béliers de tes troupeaux.

 38 This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

39 Ce qui a été déchiré par les bêtes, je ne te l’ai pas rapporté ; j’en ai supporté la perte ; tu me redemandais de ma main ce qui avait été volé de jour, ou ce qui avait été volé de nuit.

 39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.

40 Ainsi j’étais ; de jour la sécheresse me consumait, et la gelée la nuit ; et mon sommeil fuyait de mes yeux.

 40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

41 Ainsi j’ai été vingt ans dans ta maison ; je t’ai servi quatorze ans pour tes deux filles, et six ans pour ton bétail: et tu as changé mes gages dix fois.

 41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

42 Si le Dieu de mon père, le Dieu d’Abraham, et la crainte d’Isaac, n’avait pas été avec moi, assurément tu m’aurais maintenant renvoyé à vide. Dieu a vu mon affliction et le labeur de mes mains, et il t’a repris la nuit dernière.

 42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.

43 ¶ Et Laban répondit et dit à Jacob: Ces filles sont mes filles, et ces enfants sont mes enfants, et ces bêtes sont mes bêtes, et tout ce que tu vois est à moi: et que puis-je faire aujourd’hui à mes filles, ou à leurs enfants qu’elles ont enfantés ?

 43 ¶ And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?

44 Maintenant donc viens, faisons une alliance, moi et toi ; et qu’elle soit un témoignage entre moi et toi.

 44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

45 Et Jacob prit une pierre, et la plaça pour une colonne.

 45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

46 Et Jacob dit à ses frères : Rassemblez des pierres ; et ils prirent des pierres, et en firent un tas: et ils mangèrent là sur le tas.

 46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

47 Et Laban l’appela Jegarsahadutha: mais Jacob l’appela Galeed.

 47 And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.

48 Et Laban dit: Ce tas est un témoin entre moi et toi aujourd’hui. Par conséquent son nom s’appela Galeed ;

 48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;

49 Et Mizpah, car il dit, Que le SEIGNEUR veille entre moi et toi, lorsque nous serons absents l’un de l’autre.

 49 And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.

50 Si tu affliges mes filles, ou si tu prends d’autres femmes que mes filles, nul homme est avec nous ; regarde, Dieu est témoin entre moi et toi.

 50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.

51 Et Laban dit à Jacob, Voici ce tas, et voici cette colonne, que j’ai élevés entre moi et toi.

 51 And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee;

52 Que ce tas soit témoin, et cette colonne soit témoin, que je ne passerai pas ce tas pour aller à toi, et que tu ne passeras pas ce tas et cette colonne pour aller à moi, pour faire du mal.

 52 This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.

53 Que le Dieu d’Abraham et le Dieu de Nahor, le Dieu de leur père juge entre nous. Et Jacob jura par la crainte de son père Isaac.

 53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.

54 Alors Jacob offrit un sacrifice sur le mont, et invita ses frères à manger le pain: et ils mangèrent le pain, et restèrent toute la nuit sur le mont.

 54 Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

55 Et tôt le matin Laban se leva, et embrassa ses fils et ses filles, et les bénit: et Laban partit et retourna en son lieu.

 55 And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.
