1 Et Joseph fut amené en Égypte ; et Potiphar, un officier de Pharaon, capitaine de la garde, un égyptien, l’acheta des mains des Ismaélites, lesquels l’y avaient amené.

 1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.

2 Et le SEIGNEUR était avec Joseph, et il était un homme prospère ; et il était dans la maison de son maître l’Égyptien.

 2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

3 Et son maître vit que le SEIGNEUR était avec lui, et que le SEIGNEUR faisait que tout prospérait en sa main.

 3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

4 Et Joseph trouva grâce à sa vue, et il le servait: et il le fit intendant sur sa maison, et tout ce qu’il avait il remit en sa main.

 4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

5 Et il arriva que, depuis le moment qu’il l : avait fait intendant sur sa maison et sur tout ce qu’il avait, que le SEIGNEUR bénit la maison de l’Égyptien à cause de Joseph ; et la bénédiction du SEIGNEUR était sur tout ce qu’il avait dans la maison et aux champs.

 5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

6 Et il laissa tout ce qu’il avait en la main de Joseph ; et il ne savait pas ce qu’il avait, si ce n’est le pain qu’il mangeait. Et Joseph était une personne plaisante, et une belle apparence.

 6 And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.

7 ¶ Et il arriva après ces choses, que la femme de son maître jeta les yeux sur Joseph ; et dit: Couche avec moi.

 7 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

8 Mais il refusa et il dit à la femme de son maître: Voici, mon maître ne me demande aucun compte de ce qui est dans la maison, et il remis tout ce qu’il a en main ;

 8 But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;

9 Il n’y a personne dans cette maison de plus grand que moi ; et il ne m’a limité en rien que toi, parce que tu es sa femme: comment alors pourrais-je faire cette grande immoralité, et pécherais-je contre Dieu ?

 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10 Et il arriva, comme elle parlait à Joseph jour après jour, qu’il ne lui prêta pas attention, pour coucher auprès d’elle, ni pour être avec elle.

 10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

11 Et il arriva cette fois-là, que Joseph vint à la maison pour faire son travail ; et il n’y avait là aucun des hommes de la maison.

 11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

12 Et elle le prit par son vêtement, disant, Couche avec moi ; et il laissa son vêtement en sa main et s’enfuit, et alla dehors.

 12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

13 Et il arriva, lorsqu’elle vit qu’il avait laissé son vêtement en sa main, et s’était enfui,

 13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

14 Qu’elle appela les hommes de sa maison, et leur parla disant, Voyez, il nous a amené un homme hébreu pour se moquer de nous ; il vint vers moi pour coucher avec moi, et je criai à haute voix :

 14 That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

15 Et il arriva, lorsqu’il entendit que j’élevai ma voix et criai, qu’il laissa son vêtement avec moi et s’enfuit, et est parti.

 15 And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.

16 Et elle posa son vêtement près d’elle, jusqu’à ce que son seigneur rentre à la maison.

 16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.

17 Et elle lui parla selon ces paroles, disant, Le serviteur hébreu, que tu nous as amené, vint vers moi pour se moquer de moi:

 17 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:

18 Et il arriva, comme j’élevai ma voix, et criai, qu’il a laissé son vêtement avec moi, et s’enfuit dehors.

 18 And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.

19 Et il arriva, lorsque son maître entendit les paroles de sa femme, laquelle lui parlait, disant, D’après cette manière ton serviteur fit envers moi ; que son courroux s’enflamma.

 19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

20 Et le maître de Joseph le prit, et le mit en prison, un lieu où les prisonniers du roi étaient enfermés ; et Il fut là dans la prison.

 20 And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

21 ¶ Mais le SEIGNEUR était avec Joseph et lui manifesta sa miséricorde, et lui fit trouver faveur à la vue du geôlier de la prison.

 21 ¶ But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

22 Et le geôlier de la prison remit en la main de Joseph tous les prisonniers qui étaient dans la prison ; et tout ce qui se faisait là, c’était lui qui le faisait.

 22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

23 Le gardien de la prison ne regardait aucune des choses qui étaient en sa main, parce que le SEIGNEUR était avec lui, et ce qu’il faisait, le SEIGNEUR le faisait prospérer.

 23 The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
