1 Et il arriva au bout de deux années entières, que Pharaon rêva: et, voici, il se tenait près du fleuve.

 1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.

2 Et, voici, du fleuve montaient sept vaches belles à voir et grasses ; et elles broutaient dans la prairie.

 2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.

3 Et, voici, sept autres vaches montaient du fleuve après elles, laides à voir et maigres ; et se tenaient auprès des autres vaches sur le bord du fleuve.

 3 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.

4 Et les vaches laides et maigres mangèrent les sept vaches belles et grasses. Ainsi Pharaon se réveilla.

 4 And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.

5 Et il s’endormit et rêva une seconde fois: et, voici, sept épis de maïs poussaient sur une même tige gras et bons.

 5 And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.

6 Et, voici, sept épis maigres et abîmés par le vent d’est germaient après ceux-là.

 6 And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.

7 Et les épis maigres dévorèrent les sept épis gras et pleins. Et Pharaon se réveilla, et, voici, c’était un rêve.

 7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

8 Et il arriva au matin que son espritf fut troublé ; et il envoya appeler tous les magiciens d’Egypte et tous ses hommes sages, et Pharaon leur raconta son rêve ; mais il n’y avait personne qui puisse les interpréter au Pharaon.

 8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

9 ¶ Alors le chef des sommeliers parla à Pharaon, disant, , Je me rappelle aujourd’hui mes fautes :

 9 ¶ Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

10 Pharaon fut courroucé contre ses serviteurs, et me mit sous garde dans la maison du capitaine de la garde, moi et le chef des boulangers.

 10 Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker:

11 Et nous avons fait un rêve une nuit, moi et lui ; nous avons rêvé chacun selon l’interprétation de son rêve.

 11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

12 Et il y avait là avec nous un jeune homme, un hébreu, serviteur du capitaine de la garde ; et nous lui racontèrent, et il nous interpréta nos rêves ; à chacun il interpréta son rêve.

 12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

13 Et il arriva, comme il nous l’interpréta, ainsi fut-il ; il me rétablit en mon office, et lui il le pendit.

 13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

14 ¶ Alors Pharaon envoya et appela Joseph, et on le fit sortir en hâte du donjon: et il se rasa, et changea son habillement, et vint vers Pharaon.

 14 ¶ Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

15 Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: J’ai rêvé un rêve, et il n’y a personne qui puisse l’interpréter: et j’ai entendu dire que tu peux comprendre un rêve pour l’interpréter.

 15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.

16 Et Joseph répondit à Pharaon disant, Ce n’est pas à moi : Dieu doit donner à Pharaon une réponse de paix.

 16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

17 Et Pharaon dit à Joseph, Dans mon rêve, voici, je me tenais sur le bord du fleuve:

 17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:

18 Et, voici, que du fleuve montaient sept vaches grasses et belles à voir ; et elles broutaient dans la prairie.

 18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:

19 Et, voici, sept autres vaches montaient après elles, chétives, et très laides, et maigres, telles que je n’en ai jamais vu dans toute la terre d’Égypte pour leur mauvais état:

 19 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

20 Et les vaches maigres et laides mangèrent les sept premières vaches grasses:

 20 And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:

21 Et lorsqu’elles les eurent mangées, on ne pouvait pas voir qu’elles les avaient mangées ; mais elles étaient toujours laides, comme au commencement. Alors je me réveillai.

 21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

22 Et je vis dans mon rêve, et, voici, sept épis poussaient sur une même tige, pleins et beaux :

 22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:

23 Et, voici, sept épis desséchés, minces et abîmés par le vent d’est, germaient après eux:

 23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:

24 Et les épis minces dévorèrent les sept bons épis: et je l’ai raconté aux magiciens ; mais il n’y a eu personne qui puisse me l’expliquer.

 24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.

25 Et Joseph dit à Pharaon: Le rêve de Pharaon est un seul: Dieu a montré à Pharaon ce qu’il est sur le point de faire.

 25 ¶ And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

26 Les sept bonnes vaches sont sept années ; et les sept bons épis sont sept années: c’est un seul rêve.

 26 The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.

27 Et les sept vaches maigres et laides qui montaient après elles sont sept années ; et les sept épis vides, abîmés par le vent d’est doivent être sept années de famine.

 27 And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

28 C’est la chose que j’ai dite à Pharaon: Que Dieu a fait voir à Pharaon ce qu’il est sur le point de faire.

 28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.

29 Voici, sept années de grande abondance viennent à travers tout le pays d’Égypte:

 29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:

30 Et il doit s’élever après sept années de famine ; et toute l’abondance doit être oubliée dans le pays d’Égypte ; et la famine doit consumer le pays ;

 30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

31 Et l’abondance ne doit plus être connue dans le pays à cause de cette famine qui suivra ; car elle doit être très sérieuse.

 31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.

32 Et en ce que le rêve a été répété deux fois à Pharaon ; c’est parce que la chose est établie par Dieu, et que Dieu va bientôt la mener à bien.

 32 And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

33 Maintenant donc que Pharaon cherche un homme prudent et sage, et qu’il l’établisse sur le pays d’Égypte.

 33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

34 Que Pharaon fasse cela et assigne des officiers sur le pays, et qu’il prenne le cinquième du revenu du pays d’Égypte durant les sept années d’abondance.

 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

35 Et qu’ils rassemblent toute la nourriture de ces bonnes années qui viennent, et qu’ils amassent du maïs sous la main de Pharaon, et qu’ils gardent la nourriture dans les villes.

 35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.

36 Et cette nourriture doit être en réserve pour le pays pendant les sept années de famine, qui doivent être dans le pays d’Égypte ; afin que le pays ne périsse pas pendant la famine.

 36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

37 ¶ Et la chose fut bonne aux yeux de Pharaon, et aux yeux de tous ses serviteurs.

 37 ¶ And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

38 Et Pharaon dit à ses serviteurs: Pouvons-nous trouver un homme tel que celui-ci, en qui est l’Esprit de Dieu ?

 38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

39 Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: Puisque Dieu t’a montré tout ceci, il n’y a personne qui soit aussi prudent et aussi sage que toi.

 39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

40 Tu seras sur ma maison, et tout mon peuple doit être gouverné selon ta parole ; seulement quant au trône, je serai plus grand que toi.

 40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

41 Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: Regarde, je t’ai établi sur tout le pays d’Égypte.

 41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

42 Et Pharaon ôta son anneau de sa main, et le mit à la main de Joseph ; et il le fit revêtir de vestures de fin lin, et lui mit une chaîne d’or autour de son cou ;

 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

43 Et il le fit monter sur le second chariot qu’il avait ; et l’on cria devant lui: Courbez le genou: et il le fit régir sur tout le pays d’Égypte.

 43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

44 Et Pharaon dit à Joseph, Je suis Pharaon, et sans toi nul homme ne doit lever la main ni le pied dans tout le pays d’Égypte.

 44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

45 Et Pharaon appela Joseph du nom de Zaphnath-paaneah, et il lui donna pour femme Asenath la fille de Potipherah prêtre d’On. Et Joseph parcourut tout le pays d’Égypte.

 45 And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

46 ¶ Et Joseph était âgé de trente ans, lorsqu’il se tint devant Pharaon, roi d’Égypte. Et Joseph sortit de la présence de Pharaon, et alla à travers tout le pays d’Égypte.

 46 ¶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

47 Et durant les sept années d’abondance la terre rapporta à pleines mains.

 47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.

48 Et il rassembla toute la nourriture des sept années, qu’il y eut dans le pays d’Égypte, et amassa la nourriture dans les villes: la nourriture des champs  ; laquelle venait des alentours chaque jour, il l’amassa de même.

 48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.

49 Et Joseph rassembla du maïs comme le sable de la mer, en très grande quantité, jusqu’à ce qu’il cesse de compter ; parce qu’il était sans nombre.

 49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.

50 Et à Joseph naquirent deux fils avant que l’année de la famine arrive,lesquels Asenath la fille de Potipherah, prêtre d’On, lui enfanta.

 50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.

51 Et Joseph appela le nom du premier-né Manasseh : car Dieu, dit-il, m’a fait oublier tout mon labeur, et toute la maison de mon père.

 51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.

52 Et il appela le nom du second Ephraim: car Dieu m’a fait être fructueux dans le pays de mon affliction.

 52 And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

53 ¶ Et les sept années d’abondance qu’il y eut dans le pays d’Égypte, furent achevées.

 53 ¶ And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.

54 Et les sept années de pénurie commencèrent à venir, comme Joseph l’avait dit: et la pénurie fut dans tous les pays ; mais dans tout le pays d’Égypte il y avait du pain.

 54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

55 Et lorsque tout le pays d’Égypte fut affamé, le peuple cria à Pharaon pour du pain: et Pharaon dit à tous les Égyptiens: Allez à Joseph ; ce qu’il vous dira, faites-le.

 55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.

56 Et la famine fut sur toute la surface de la terre: et Joseph ouvrit tous les greniers et vendit aux Égyptiens ; et la famine se renforça fortement dans le pays d’Égypte.

 56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

57 Et tous les pays venaient en Égypte à Joseph pour acheter du maïs ; parce que la famine était tellement sévère dans tous les pays.

 57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.
