1 Et Joseph tomba sur le visage de son père et pleura sur lui, et l’embrassa.

 1 And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

2 Et Joseph commanda à ses serviteurs les médecins d’embaumer son père: et les médecins embaumèrent Israël.

 2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

3 Et quarante jours furent accomplis pour lui ; car ainsi s’accomplissaient les jours de ceux qui sont embaumés: et les Égyptiens portèrent son deuil soixante-dix jours.

 3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.

4 Et lorsque les jours de son deuil furent passés, Joseph parla à la maison de Pharaon, disant, Si maintenant j’ai trouvé grâce à vos yeux, dites, je vous prie, aux oreilles de Pharaon, disant,

 4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

5 Mon père m’a fait jurer, disant, Voici, je meurs: dans ma tombe que je me suis tailléE dans la terre de Canaan, là tu m’enterreras. Maintenant donc, laisse-moi monter, je te prie, et enterrer mon père ; et je reviendrai.

 5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

6 Et Pharaon dit: Monte, et enterre ton père, selon qu’il te l’a fait jurer.

 6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

7 ¶ Et Joseph monta pour enterrer son père : et avec lui montèrent tous les serviteurs de Pharaon, les anciens de sa maison, et tous les anciens du pays d’Égypte,

 7 ¶ And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

8 Et toute la maison de Joseph, et ses frères, et la maison de son père: seulement leurs petits enfants, leurs troupeaux de moutons et de bœufs, ils laissèrent dans la terre de Goshen.

 8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

9 Et montèrent avec lui des chariots et des cavaliers: et ce fut une très grande compagnie.

 9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

10 Et ils arrivèrent à l’aire de battage d’Atad, laquelle est au-delà du Jourdain, et là ils sanglotèrent avec de grandes et fortes lamentations : et il fit à son père un deuil de sept jours.

 10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

11 Et lorsque les habitants du pays, les Canaanites, virent le deuil dans l’aire d’Atad, ils dirent, C’est un deuil sérieux pour les Égyptiens: c’est pourquoi son nom était appelé Abel-mitzaim, lequel est au-delà du Jourdain.

 11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan.

12 Et ses fils firent à son égard, comme il leur commanda.

 12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:

13 Car ses fils le transportèrent dans la terre de Canaan, et l’enterrèrent dans la caverne du champ de Machpelah, lequel Abraham acheta avec le champ, comme une possession d’une sépulture à Ephron le Hittite, en face de Mamre.

 13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

14 ¶ Et Joseph retourna en Égypte, lui et ses frères et tous ceux qui étaient montés avec lui pour enterrer son père après qu’il eut enterré son père.

 14 ¶ And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

15 ¶ Et lorsque les frères de Joseph virent que leur père était mort, ils dirent: Peut-être que Joseph nous haïra, et certainement nous rendra tout le mal que nous lui avons fait.

 15 ¶ And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

16 Et ils envoyèrent un messager à Joseph, disant, Ton père commanda avant qu’il meure, disant,

 16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

17 Vous devez dire ainsi à Joseph, Pardonne, je te prie, maintenant l’infraction de tes frères et leur péché ; car ils t’ont fait du mal: et maintenant, nous te prions, pardonne l’infraction des serviteurs du Dieu de ton père: et Joseph pleura lorsqu’ils lui parlaient.

 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

18 Et ses frères aussi vinrent et tombèrent devant sa face ; et ils dirent: Voici, nous sommes tes serviteurs.

 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

19 Et Joseph leur dit: N’ayez pas peur: car suis-je à la place de Dieu ?

 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 Mais quant à vous, vous pensiez du mal contre moi ; mais Dieu l’avait voulu en bien, pour faire venir, comme cela est ce jour, pour sauver la vie à beaucoup de personnes.

 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Maintenant donc n’ayez pas peur: je vous nourrirai, et vos petits enfants. Et il les réconforta, et leur parla avec bonté.

 21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

22 ¶ Et Joseph demeura en Égypte, lui et la maison de son père: et Joseph vécut cent dix ans.

 22 ¶ And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.

23 Et Joseph vit les enfants d’Ephraim jusqu’à la troisième génération: les enfants aussi de Machir, le fils de Manasseh furent élevés sur les genoux de Joseph.

 23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.

24 Et Joseph dit à ses frères: Je meurs: et Dieu sûrement vous visitera, et vous fera sortir de ce pays, vers la terre qu’il a jurée à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.

 24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

25 Et Joseph fit prêter serment aux enfants d’Israël disant, , Dieu sûrement vous visitera, et vous devez transporter mes os d’ici.

 25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

26 Ainsi Joseph mourut, étant âgé de cent dix ans: et ils l’embaumèrent, et il fut mis dans un cercueil en Égypte.

 26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
