1 La charge qu’Habakkuk (Habacuc) le prophète a vue.

 1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

2 Ô SEIGNEUR, jusques à quand crierai-j et que tu n’entendras pas ! et même je crie à toi au sujet de violence, et tu ne sauveras pas !

 2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

3 Pourquoi me montres-tu l’iniquité, et me fais-tu contempler l’humiliation ? Car la spoliation et la violence sont devant moi ; et il y en a qui excitent la querelle, et la contestation.

 3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

4 C’est pourquoi la loi est affaiblie, et le jugement ne va jamais de l’avant car le méchant environne le homme droit, c’est pourquoi le jugement erroné est rendu.

 4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

5 ¶ Voyez parmi les païens, et regardez, soyez merveilleusement étonnés car je ferai en vos jours une œuvre que vous ne croirez pas si on vous la racontait.

 5 ¶ Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

6 Car voici, je vais susciter les Chaldéens, cette nation cruelle et impétueuse, qui marchera à travers toute la largeur du pays, pour posséder les demeures qui ne lui appartiennent pas.

 6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.

7 Ils sont terribles et redoutables ; leur jugement et leur dignité procéderont d’eux-mêmes.

 7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

8 Leurs chevaux sont aussi plus rapides que les léopards, et sont plus féroces que les loups du soir, et leurs cavaliers se répandront ; et leurs cavaliers viendront de loin, ils voleront comme l’aigle qui se hâte pour manger.

 8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.

9 Ils viendront pour la violence, leurs faces avaleront le vent d’Est, et ils assembleront la captivité comme du sable.

 9 They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.

10 Et ils raillerons les rois, et les princes leur seront un sarcasme ; ils se moqueont de toutes les forteresses ; car ils amoncelleront de la poussière, et la prendra.

 10 And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

11 Alors sa pensée changera, et il passera et outragera, imputant son pouvoir à son dieu.

 11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.

12 ¶ N’es-tu pas de toute éternité, ô SEIGNEUR mon Dieu, mon Seul Saint ? Nous ne mourrons pas. Ô SEIGNEUR, tu les as établis pour faire jugement ; et Dieu puissant, tu les as établi pour punir.

 12 ¶ Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

13 Tu as les yeux trop purs pour contempler le mal, et tu ne peux pas regarder l’iniquité ; pourquoi regardes-tu ceux qui agissent perfidement, et retiens-tu ta langue quand le méchant dévore l’homme qui est plus droit que lui ?

 13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

14 Pourquoi as-tu fait les hommes comme les poissons de la mer, comme les choses rampantes qui n’ont personne qui domine sur eux ?

 14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

15 Ils les font tous monter avec l’hameçon, ils les attrapent dans leur filet, et les assemblent dans leur drague ; c’est pourquoi ils se réjouissent et s’égayent.

 15 They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

16 C’est pourquoi ils sacrifient à leur filet, et brûlent de l’encens à leur drague, parce que par leur moyen leur portion est grasse, et leur nourriture abondante.

 16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.

17 Videront-ils pour cela leur filet, et n’épargneront-ils pas de tuer continuellement les nations ?

 17 Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?
